Look at the date that thread was created; I don't typically expect you Redditors to use your mind all the time (for typical reasons, of course) but Jesus, this is common sense.
The context for a closed beta's success and a finalized game's success are completely different.
I'm sure that a lot of those people in that thread would change their mind if they saw the incompetence of CCP and their lackluster updates...
I mean sh*t, I wouldn't mind less content if the events between patches were better, but there isnt even any vehicles or heavy stuff being optioned as a reward. It seems CCP just has no idea what they need to keep their player base entertained; I really wish this game had some competition, cause I loved EVE Online, but this POS of a game is just one big remorseful product.

I feel that if CCP had some competition that it might light a fire under their asses to give us the end game we all crave so much. As it is now CCP knows we do not have anything else to go to that is anything like DUST. They know that they can take as long as they want to and we will still just sit here and wait for them because we have know where else to go.
Competition can also be a great motivator and right now I feel that CCP needs some motivation. |

it is doing well for now. It is good numbers for what the game is right now, a FPS.
But if CCP wants to give us the end game they talk about all the time we are going to need much greater numbers than what we currently have. |

a new player now has to decide: -do I skill into what is availabe despite maybe wanted something else that is announced and will come in the next 10 months. -or do I save SP and wait for the next 10 months and endure horrible grind against high SP enemies
in both cases the player will feel bad and most likely leave. lack of content and forced "choices" due to it, balance problems and bugs are a plague for this game, you can see it in the declining population. |

I wonder how many true new players DUST gets or will get?
By true I mean no alts. Game has been out for a while now.

I bet DUST is already developed with Unreal Engine 4. You can judge it by upgraded graphics and changed game mechanics since Uprising. UE4 has backward compatibility to port for PS3. Thought you can't run UE4 editor directly on PS3.
This would explain so many unnoticed bugs cropping out after each monthly patch. Maybe all QA is done on PS4 and not on PS3 and they have to run after that bugs blindfolded... Tweak something on PS4, build to PS3 and then see if it fixed anything...
My wild guess ofc... Feel free to ignore it... |

I doubt you can muster the amount of brain cells it takes to contribute anything to this society so TBH don't even bother trying. Just keep doing what you do best champ! |

Buttercup Chipmint wrote:TL:DR- In order to shut both the Fanbois and Trolls up CCP needs to PC battle against PS2 on the same console in order to decide the true winner - DUST is the only F2P FPS MMO on PS3. This is the #1 reason why CCP is doing so well with DUST on the PS3, because they have no real true competition on the PS3 and CCP knows this. You know kinda how they had no real competition when they released EVE. If and when DUST ever moves over to the PS4 I am afraid that DUST will not fare so well. If CCP was smart they would just stay on the PS3 until it fades away and then just put DUST to rest along with the PS3. For example, if PS2 was released right now onto the PS3, ( mind you I know it never will be on the PS3) DUST would be in real trouble. I am not saying that everyone would leave and go play PS2 for good but a huge number of persons would be leaving this playerbase and playing PS2. In fact I would not doubt that most everyone that plays DUST would also play PS2 at some point. Yes some will come back to DUST and some will have the opinion that PS2 is garbage. Some will play both. Chances are A larger portion would stay with PS2 and never come back. Now anyone can disagree with this statement, however you would be a fool to think that DUST would not lose at the very least about half of it playerbase right now. Bad? No, this would be great! "Competition breeds greatness!" We the customers would benefit IMO, it might just encourage CCP to bring this game to its full potential. Again DUST is the only F2P FPS MMO on PS3 so all these silly little threads about DUST is dead and Player base server #'s will never be anything more than WALL -O- TEXT's. Fanbois vs Trolls CCP and CCP's fanbois will never be able to claim how great a game this is nor will the naysayers be able to discredit this game by calling it a Lobby FPS until CCP HTFU and goes up against some real competition. Come on CCP HTFU and prove to us how great a Dev Company you are.
Getting bored with the game is more competition than Dust can handle at the moment. It needs no more.

I feel as though CCP has not even started working on a PS4 version yet.
They are going to try and handle DUST in the same manor they handled EVE.
CCP launched EVE in 2003 right. Its Operating system was Windows XP at the time, on DirectX 7. CCP then migrated to DirectX 9 with a live game in operation and ran a dual rendering across DirectX 7 and DirectX 9 for a bunch of years and also did the same thing when they launched the Mac version.
So with Dust they are going to perfect the PS3 version then start to develop a PlayStation 4 version. They will then try and link both the PS3 version and PS4 some how and then tie both of them to Tranquility. All the while they will be supporting both the PS3 and PS4 versions until PS3 fades away and then they will move everything over to PS4 only, until PS5.
But first they need to perfect PS3 build.
But hey they have no real competition so they can take all the time in the world to accomplish this, right? |

My point exactly.
We can not prove either one is better than the other until they both are on the PS4.

And it's much better for us if CCP learns how to make DUST work on a highly constrained platform - we get tighter, more optimized and better thought out code for our troubles. And CCP gets much needed development experience that will pay big dividends on DUST's next platform as well as apply to future New Eden ventures.
Imo we have the best possible development environment right now - it's demanding and unforgiving - that makes for a first-class education for CCP. |

Dust has lots of competition. EVE is the one that doesn't have much competition, though that will change when Star Citizen is released. From the looks of early footage and the hanger walkabout I would say its a potential EVE killer. |

Not f2p...but id say bf3 is a huge obstacle to dust in their similarities and differences.
Dust has very good emphasis on personalised gameplay and loadouts whereas battlefield leads when it comes to the balance between all categories of offensive abilities, choppers tanks jets etc.they balance well
But again..u gotta buy bf |

BF is also missing MMO.
Quote:N1ck Comeau wrote: with this logic i guess games like battlefield should give up because of COD.
If anything this guy just proved my point.
EA Games executive VP Patrick Soderlund said this,
Quote:GÇ£Maybe they (Activision) werenGÇÖt thinking about us much when we made BF3, but I can tell you, they are thinking about us now. We made a dent in the FPS market and we took share from them. And I am not going to give up until IGÇÖm No.1GǦ
So no BF should not give up and in fact they are doing everything they can to beat COD, in turn this benefits us. |
