DUST Search - CCP and DUST have no real Competition.

Also Planetside 2 isn't really a game for everyone. It has problems like Dust has. Different problems though.

First of all: Population. I hear it's very one-sided.
Second: No goal. You fight so you can fight. You can never win. I hear there are server resets every now and then. But you can never finish a game. It's all about having a big fight and that's it.

In Dust on the other hand: When we have a big fight (Arzad, Molden Heath Revolution) you can be sure as hell people write about it. When we get new content, it can influence the established Universe of another MMO. Of course: The game isn't there yet. but you know: At some point it will be.

This is the #1 reason why CCP is doing so well with DUST on the PS3, because they have no real true competition on the PS3 and CCP knows this. You know kinda how they had no real competition when they released EVE. If and when DUST ever moves over to the PS4 I am afraid that DUST will not fare so well. If CCP was smart they would just stay on the PS3 until it fades away and then just put DUST to rest along with the PS3. For example, if PS2 was released right now onto the PS3, (mind you I know it never will be on the PS3) DUST would be in real trouble. I am not saying that everyone would leave and go play PS2 for good but a huge number of persons would be leaving this playerbase and playing PS2. In fact I would not doubt that most everyone that plays DUST would also play PS2 at some point. Yes some will come back to DUST and some will have the opinion that PS2 is garbage. Some will play both. Chances are A larger portion would stay with PS2 and never come back. Now anyone can disagree with this statement, however you would be a fool to think that DUST would not lose at the very least about half of it playerbase right now. Bad? No, this would be great! "Competition breeds greatness!" We the customers would benefit IMO, it might just encourage CCP to bring this game to its full potential. Again DUST is the only F2P FPS MMO on PS3 so all these silly little threads about DUST is dead and Player base server #'s will never be anything more than WALL -O- TEXT's. Fanbois vs Trolls CCP and CCP's fanbois will never be able to claim how great a game this is nor will the naysayers be able to discredit this game by calling it a Lobby FPS until CCP HTFU and goes up against some real competition. Come on CCP HTFU and prove to us how great a Dev Company you are.

If EVE had competition in its infant years it wouldn't end up such the unique game it currently is! Instead making dust general release (non-beta) has allowed us to reap the benefits of competition without the negatives, and the competition, obviously, we shouldn't attempt to directly compete with PS2 or the like until we are playing kn OUR terms not b theirs!

Will it work is the real question. They have a good idea and an open market for this type of game but the longer DUST runs the more I question the average console players attention span. Console games run in months and that is how people like them and I am not sure that the console market can and/or will support a game where only playing for 3 months makes you a noob. The console community and by a larger margin younger players don't seem to take the concept as well computer and older gamers. To me younger players like lower time to kill and more twitch type games. My son said he likes BF more because you don't have to shoot everyone in the head. Also, Sci-Fi is a hard sell if it isn't done properly. I hope they fill the niche they are looking for but I am worried that the console community is too fickle and superficial to want an open ended game like this.

I don't think PS2 is any better or worse than DUST however PS2 is the closest game out right now that would be true competition for DUST. TBH long term goals I feel as though DUST has a better dream/game plan than PS2 but head to head right now they both are very similar games.

This is why New Eden needs to be completely re-factored, the old code needs to be un-entangled, the whole thing needs to be modularized and made scalable, parallel, and distributed. Able to make intelligent decisions and run on any platform, in some form or another. Able to co-opt toasters, refrigerators and electronic gps dog collars. New Eden should outlive us all.

Also, (and this has nothing to do with anything) I love how female spartans look like in reach but eeeew they went all anorexic for Halo 4. not even proana people can like a halo 4 female spartan.

Yes but in the console world the games that you find boring are King no matter if we like them or not they draw numbers and make money. I do not and can not compare DUST to any of those giants, like I have said the only game out right now that even comes close to DUST is PS2.
