If you could change some mechanics back to how they were in chromosome, would you?
For me I'd prefer a lot of things to go back, but most of all aiming.
If the community agree then maybe we could petition to CCP.
I'm not saying we need that build back or that we should move to get a total reset back to chrome. I'm just wondering if the community would want to revert back on the most annoying changes of uprising. So that we could start from when dust was at its best. |

I miss the old skill layout. I think the new one is superior, but under the old one, I could have literally maxed out a shield tanked Scout/SMG/Pistol setup by now.
I would have loved that.
I also miss having 2 equipment slots on non-logis. |

i agree! chrome was much better if you look at the game mechanics from back then. i know a lot of people especially complaining about the new aimassist. i personally miss speed tanking most |

There are some current balancing issues and matchmaking problems but the mechanics themselves are alright. Matchmaking was still non-existent in chromosome and balance was all over the place. The aim was alright but we had frame rate issues and even more dc problems than ever. I can't honestly say id rather have anything from chromosome instead of simply fixing/iteratingon what we have now. |

You still get stuck on textures all over? The aiming system is still glitchy for all peripheral's if you turn off their AA band-aid that didn't fix anything...
The matchmaking mechanics are worse then ever.... complicated solution for a simple answer...
Squad mechanics make you DC endlessly...
PC and tourny matches are as laggy, with as many memory leaks, and have 1-2 FPS turn outs more then not...
The Logi armor repairing mechanics and system got changed for even worse....
The needle system HAS never been fixed since chrom when it was at its best...
Other then a broken Viziam on headshot glitch with laser... that was really the only major balance issue.... Now? omg....
Hit detection is WAY more lagged.. way slower to register... way less crisp... way less predictable...
The running and speed mechanics have been slowed down EVEN more.....
Literally they left everything broken with the game and proceeded to fix the stuff that worked....

Yes, I wish they could stop fixing things that aren't broken, mouse was perfect a few builds back then they decided to do their artificial balancing BS and totally F'd it, another example of fixing things that aren't broken, tank aiming, of all the crap i've seen ppl complain about regarding tanks not once did i see someone say the turrets moved to slow and that aiming needed a tweak.... but no in their game going broke wisdom they "tweaked" it.

You really need to go watch some PVP vid's and say that.... We went from a game that people wouldnt get off until downtime reminded them they needed sleep...
To a game where we can't keep someone on for more then a PC and a tourney match...
Chrom http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oVKlD3N8xM

Would you think the official launched game version be more reliable then a beta?
Because even in the game stability in uprising that isn't true.
As far as gameplay.... its proof just in the amount of player vid's made anymore... there isn't any... in chromosome... you could spend your first hour everyday physching yourself up with good new gameplay vid's...
And mechanic's are pretty evident... just trying to move around in DUST on a inclined hill... or getting stuck on a box... or a heavy... Then a broken needle system they have had to rework 3 times? since uprising? I literally can go on forever how the game mechanics has suffered from CCP fixing stuff that didn't need it....
Them throwing out the old aiming mechanics to write an entire new system to implement when they officially launched the game... screw testing it in beta?
And what did it do? save us 1 FPS... seriously... |

AA needs some tweaking but it's laggy hitboxes and poor hit detection that are the real problem and that was still the case back in Chromosome.
The matchmaking mechanics are worse then ever.... complicated solution for a simple answer...
Matchmaking is currently poor but is not actually any worse than Chromosome, where protostomps and unfilled matches were pretty common.
Squad mechanics make you DC endlessly...
This has been fixed.
PC and tourny matches are as laggy, with as many memory leaks, and have 1-2 FPS turn outs more then not...
There were no PC or tourny matches in Chromosome. All we had was 8 vs 8 corp contracts.
The Logi armor repairing mechanics and system got changed for even worse....
The removal of health bars has been acknowledged as an issue and is planned to be fixed. For all other players, the UI is much less cluttered without them all constantly being on view.
The needle system HAS never been fixed since chrom when it was at its best...
You mean when if someone's body moved from the point that they were killed, you had to search around for where they died to be able to revive them?
Other then a broken Viziam on headshot glitch with laser... that was really the only major balance issue.... Now? omg....
Lasers were ridiculous in Chromosome, not just on headshots. There have always been multitudes of balancing issues in this game. ALWAYS.
Hit detection is WAY more lagged.. way slower to register... way less crisp... way less predictable...
Lag was pretty prominent in Chromosome but the reason we have these issues in Uprising is likely connected to the greatly improved graphics. I'd rather they work on improving the hit detection than revert to worse graphics.
The running and speed mechanics have been slowed down EVEN more.....
I too dislike this but that's simply a case of tweaking numbers and scouts in particular are being looked at.
Literally they left everything broken with the game and proceeded to fix the stuff that worked....
Better graphics, better maps, bigger maps, 16 vs 16 corp battles, 6 man squads, more suits, more weapons, more vehicles, more equipment, less laggy (remember teleporting enemies?).
Like I said - I'd much rather see CCP fix/iterate on everything we've got now than take any steps back to the way anything used to be.
There is a hell of a lot that has been improved in Uprising and if you were really to go and play Chromosome right now, you'd see them all. Try youtubing some of the old open beta Dust vids and you'll get an idea. |

It was hinted that a lot of the core code was refactored from Chromosome to Uprising. There may be cases where you feel the Uprising version of some aspect is worse than the previous version, and you may be right, but from a software engineering perspective I'm betting that the foundation is a lot better and enables them to move forward. Reverting to Chromosome may bring back one feature you liked but also reverts all the constructive work to move DUST forward.
The hardest parts, from a player perspective, is not see why something is changed and when is it going to be better. At least with the monthly patches we get access to the stuff that is finished without waiting for many long months. |

Here is a good vid for showing just a handful of things that were wrong with Chromosome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1vEETvCwx0 Note the occasional getting stuck on walls/rails and absolute lack of recoil on the AR even with constant fire at 100m.
As for DootDoot's Chromosome vid example - note the same with the AR but also that the match is obviously a horrendous example of matchmaking.
Also, in any Chromosome vid, check out how horribly bland everything looks. The colours and textures are just plain dull. |

The aiming system was better in chromosome.. Much better.... that is truth... and they rewrote and did a complete from ground up new aiming system and we have the exact same problems again....
Matchmaking ... yea complicated fix for simplistic problem and still a massive problem
Squad DC's... are NOT fixed.. still an issue....
There was Tourney's in beta... Wonder where the Balac's sniper rifle and suits came from? ... and yes they allowed us to put a full group into battle... 16vs16... what public matches had... Do they get a round of applause? because player count's are low enough even most of EoN cant field a full 16....
Yes the old needle system always had position lag with your death point. You where still able to pick them up... not always the case now... not to mention your completely blind when your being picked up.... there is a massive delay from when the game register's you shootable and when your control input register's... Not to mention the terrible use button range for picking someone up... or the terrible equipment wheel Since uprising launch....
Greatly improved graphic's are new textures... and lighting... the graphic's and what is even capable from the unreal engine... hasn't even been brushed upon...
Lag is part of online gaming... people know where lag is acceptable... The hit registry is so delayed compared to when you fired your bullets in chromosome... There is endless video's showing Uprising lagged hitboxes and bullets all over youtube...
We got a couple map's... the one your thinking as better has been here since closed beta... was even featured in the DUST e3 video's.... They just never gave it to us... then built it exactly like every other DUST map with a city.... The map's in a competition enviroment have no forward thought.... and are broken in spot's and completely un balanced... But awesome in Pub scenario's?
But in all fairness ... a couple new maps? in of beta and uprising..... GG... anyone could of done that and got the result's they did.
6 man squad's.... your serious? ok GG CCP.... wasn't even their idea...
We got Suit's released that CCP even admitted thats not their finished stat's and bonus's.... then art department that just colored the same suit yellow and called it a logi suit...
New vehicles? where? they have taken vehicles away... they haven't added any...
Equipment? yes we got a scanner... :o allowed for good melee glitching? and an obsolete item until the very recent update... Meanwhile needles where made useless until 1.3 and still aren't used much...
Less laggy? your serious about that? i think that really could go anyway depending on the user... But for me there is just as many teleporting enemies only one massive problem... I get frame rate drops in the middle of fighting...
So fighting is really enjoyable now because your frames will start dropping off making aiming for yourself on a ds3 really enjoyable....
Yes there are just as many warping around enemies... Check the latest super ROF mass drivers... |

lol first one is about DCs that happened mainly 'overnight' and 'after downtime'. Second one had it's last post 4 days ago. Nice try.
But we're getting away from the point - Uprising is hardly less stable than Chromosome; it's still unstable but no more than before.
And all the things you've quoted as worse since Chromosome are either being worked on as known issues or aren't actually any worse (i.e. sticking to terrain/structures just to name one). |

I like how no one has mentioned the aiming system during chromosome. We never even debated aim assist because we didn't need it. You could track a running assault like a mofo and shoot him- with practice. Now that aiming was revamped and sights were changed along with sensitivities, aiming was **** poor in uprising 1.0. Most fights just ended up being battles of hip fire. CCP's fix was a giant bandaid that is AA, rather than reverting to something that wasn't flawed and required no aim assist. Just watch some of the better players' footage during chrome. Smooth as glass W/O AA. |

KenKaniff69 wrote:I like how no one has mentioned the aiming system during chromosome.
This.
We went through the strong AA argument in beta... and they removed it.. even there too a beta ... and KB/M had raw input... guess who was still on top's of leaderboards?
This is a shooter.... and if the aiming and shooting mechanic's are even questioned... then it's not working right. despite all the pretty textures... and new gadget's... the FPS part of the game is no where near what it was. |

Uprising 1.4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6T6c8AwNwV8 (Tried to find a better example but only one decent person is making vid's for DUST anymore)
Sadly pretty textures can't replace gameplay and mechanics...
the reason nintendo 1 games are still played for hours straight... the gameplay... And why Chromosome was played so heavily for a virtually unknown title in the console world not even launched. it's gameplay.

Pyrex?? he does highlight video's... how is that relevant... gimble? the guy who plays with logi bro? your serious? how about BAMM HAVOC he should get some credit he does nice highlights too...
there is what... 2-3 weeks of footage for 1.4 and most of them contain shotgun registry glitches... tank registry glitches... OP aim assist movies... and comparing it to CoD and battlefield AA... And anyone else left doing their gameplay vid's, Have a DUST 514 Lag title on one or even several of them in the last two weeks. Kingthunderbolt, blazethrough... etc
The most consistent thing you miss is you could still aim and register shot's even in Chromosome lag... when Uprising starts getting rough its as predictable aiming system as chromosome to uprising... |

Face it - the entire argument to revert back to chromosome rests upon aiming and that's something that CCP continue to work on. CCP knows AA is too strong. They are also aware of laggy hitboxes and hit detection. |

Face it you didn't play chromosome much and don't understand there was a massive gameplay difference that makes uprising feel boring slow and repetitive and offer's no more glitch fixes... Only bigger problems to core game mechanics then they had. Cars still drive through the floor's... grenades still drop through floors... You still get stuck on hills but now u get stuck on everything else...
This is why the game's populace is thinning out... gameplay... AA is just a very small part and a needle at the end of a stack already piled up on the camel's back.
That's why they have CPM's and went on a damage control campaign... You have no idea how much feedback was given leading up to Uprising, then when that disappointment was released, people realized CCP listened to no one.
That's why there was a mandate for them to respond more on the forums.
The argument that content from uprising has magically fixed them breaking the "aiming" part of the shooter and putting uprising 1.0,1.1,1.2,1.3 and now a 1.4 band aid over the still terrible aiming system doesn't help.
Hit detection should register a bullet hitting the merc's baby finger to it's left butt cheek... it doesn't they did HD lazy... that's why there is no recorded accuracy or hit box stat's for your merc. |

You clearly have no idea who you're talking to. Look at those likes - I've been here posting for over a year. For the entire open beta and most of closed beta I was unemployed, so played Dust constantly. I never missed a week's cap once.
Don't try to misrepresent me - the game is far from perfect. But having seen several major updates over the past year, I remember how people cried for a revert back to replication when Codex came, to Codex when Chromosome came and now the exact same here with Uprising. This is not new and we will see the same happen when 2.0 comes too.
There's a lot to be done but it's being done, bit by bit. Slower than I would have hoped but it is. The problem is that's it's happening too slow for most and that is why the player base isn't growing. With big new games like GTA out now, we've lost players left right and center and PS4 will be a big hit to us too. I disagree with some of the direction that has been taken and recently have been increasingly vocal about that but I refuse to sit here while people try to say that the game was better 9 months ago when that is just nonsense.

The post wasn't about reversing the whole build back to chromosome. It was about finding out if people could agree on something that was better in chrome than in uprising, so that we could further the progress of the game.
I didn't mean for there to be an objective or anything, just some thought, ideas and opinions. |
