I am going to keep this as short as possible
upgrade the swam launchers to a heavy weapon it would reduce the amount of people running around the battle with a lock on weapon, and most would have to switch to the plasma cannon instead of investing in a entirely new suit this would help with the drop ships as well.
hope you all consider my solution thank you.

1: I much as I would enjoy that, I would say no, because the medium & light frames need some kind of AV weapon.
2: The Plasma Cannon is more an AI weapon imo, unless your going against a Gunnlogi.
3: 1.5 is coming soon, like 2-3 weeks, in which case we'll see how good WM did with the balancing. |

Right...because the plasma cannon is sooooo effective against tanks...right?
As a swarm launcher you're already penalised by being a lot less effective against infantry (at least a forge gun can still kill infantry!). Making AV even less accessible is nonsense. |

Making AV even less accessible is nonsense. yes that's why 25% of dropships are shot down within the first 2 minutes of every game and 50% at the next 5, 20% lose control when hit with swarm laucher and the last 5% make it out alive because they have a prototype dropship
as for the tanks the point that the 10% that stay at the edge of the red line says enough the other 90% either get blown up immediately or get destroyed later in the match says it all
look this solution could be destroyed if we had some sort of countermeasure to the swarm launcher say like flares with HSM in bf3 |

I'll admit I was a bit surprised to find the Swarm Launcher was a light weapon when I first started playing. On the topic of making it a heavy weapon, i'm not sure how I feel about that. The ideal solution for any matchup issues should be (in my opinion) team work. I'm not a driver, but over the past week or so it seems to me that Infantry VS Tank battles can go either way, depending on teamwork and tactics. As much sense as it makes to me to have the Swarm be heavy, making this switch is going to light up the forums with QQing and respect demands (god knows there is enough of that already).
I still say the best way to protect a tank is LLAV+ 1-3 ground troops. All bases are (for the most part) covered with this method, and even better the tank needs to worry much less about retreating, letting it focus on attack and making it pretty powerful (and letting the ground troops feel nice and safe).
Definitely an interesting proposition though, can't really say I feel too strongly about it either way. |

The problem of the plasma cannon isn't the damage type!! It's hit detection and an incredibly slow projectile which makes it totally ineffective against vehicles. |

If I were to be the one that had to choose what class a weapon was to fall into I would have said that a swarm launcher would be a heavy weapon.
Amarr have lasers and that heavy weapon is coming.
Gallente have short range blaster (rail) tech and that is coming I guess.
Minmatar have projectile and we have the HMG.
Caldari always have two types of weapons GÇö long range rail and missiles.
Hence, the forge gun is the rail tech although I think it should have a reduced ranged. Long range is a relative term per the weapon in question after all.
So the swarm launcher would be the missile tech heavy weapon.
Combine this with the choice of ammo like in EVE and it would be awesome!
Think about being able to load in missile types for either armor piercing or flux for shields.
Make it a devastating weapon for someone trained well in it. Combine that with the heavy suit that can't move fast but can jump out of the way of a turret blast and can survive a turret shot better though not able to be very mobile unless using a vehicle and you have a pretty good balance.
That being said I wish they'd make weapons more dependent on skill training to be good. i.e. the sniper rifle. I'd like to stop hearing QQ about easy militia snipers vs. dedicated sniper players who've trained up to be useful. |

But that's vs. only 1 swarmer, which can still get to a position in which is impossible to be killed. I'm just going to wait until 1.5 and start laughing at swarms. |

1: The only Amarr heavy Weapon that I know of has nothing to do with Lasers
2: Blasters aren't rails, and the Gallente heavy weapon is still unknown.
3: Yes, I agree that the FG's need less range.
4: The (other) Caldari Heavy weapon is a LMG-like weapon called the Gauss Rifle. The swarm is a Light weapon, and will stay that way.

I've seen plenty of dropships outrun multiple volleys from launchers. If they're getting killed that quickly, it's likely due to rail/forge guns. An obvious solution would be to eliminate the delay in having dropships "delivered" to the battlefield, as they're sitting ducks that can't (usually) even take two swarms.
2. I'm still seeing plenty of souped-up Maggies and Gunnis absolutely dominate matches with their blaster turrets. Red-lining makes more sense if you're running a tank solo with a rail gun and can act as more of an artillery battery.
3. A tank that is constantly moving shouldn't have any trouble finding cover to hide behind. The ones dying are typically the ones using blaster turrets that will sit out in the open (usually at a spawn point and racking up kills.) |

I'm sorry, but a tank is usually 400,000 ISK
So a 60,000 ISK Swarm Launcher shouldn't be able to single handedly take down a tank.
Tanks are expensive, and are supposed to be a nightmare on the battlefield(if used properly). It's a team shooters, so people should team up on the tank.
4-5 guys trying to take out a tank sounds fair actually. |

Bad reference and good reference all in one.
Bad Reference- The tanks of WW1 had virtually no armor. The thin metal sheeting could be punctured by pretty much any weapon on the battle field at the time. Pretty sure a child could put a bayonet through the armor. WW1 era grenades easily sent shrapnel through tank armor.
Good Reference- One of the reasons militaries of the time stuck with tanks was because militaries started using proper tactics with them. They started with one or two leading an infantry charge (though the tanks of the day were slower than units on foot due to weak power plants/ mucky terrain), but soon found the best way to use them was grouping them all together and sending an actual tank unit supported by infantry.
Interestingly enough, when WW2 started the French tanks of the time were much better than the German tanks (the Tiger and Panther were not around at the start of WW2, and the Panzers of that time were much weaker than the Panzers of late/ WW2). Unfortunately, French tank tactics were poor to say the least and they chose to spread their tanks out along the Maginot Line as infantry support. Germany then pooled all its armor together and punched clean through.
I've seen enough tankers (in and out of my Corp) succeed in Dust to say that maybe some folks need to reevaluate their tactics and strategies.
A heavy with a Forge isn't always viable to run in a match, a sniper isn't always viable to run in a match, hell sometimes even my God Stick (AR) isn't the best tool to use. Sometimes you may have to recall that tank, or maybe not even bring it out to begin with. |
