I want the game to be at least a 7 out of 10 before a lot of ads start popping up. Agreed. |

The Only thing that matters is cash flow. As long as there are enough players spending AUR then CCP can continue this experiment. We don't know the numbers that truly matter nor will we.
F2P has different requirements and the most important one is related to meeting or exceeding Cash inflow projections. CCP is patient. If the moaners don't know that, which they obviously don't, then they should read some histories about EVE Online.
Really?
I bought a merc pack when I started the game because I thought I was headed into CCP DisneyLand. I still have 58,000 Aur unspent from that pack because there is nothing worth spending it on. Why would anyone be spending real life $ on the game at this stage? Only complete lunatic fanboys. |

Now I've never been someone to point at player numbers and say OMG this game is dying but I wanted to make some small pointers on this:
Peak numbers aren't that bad but it's not all about the peaks - it's about the shapes of the peaks (how sharply they rise and fall) and the general shape of the average curve over longer periods. Check out the 3 months graph - there's 2 nice peaks in the last 2 weeks but check out those troughs and compare them to the troughs of weeks during 1.2 and 1.3; we haven't seen drops like these since the start of July and wasn't that when there was the DDOS thing?
Also, look at the longer term new player graphs - our current peaks are now lower than our lowest troughs since release! That is certainly not a good sign. |

Well based on some existing math models.
We have about 55,000 unique players a day. This is however possibly quite inaccurate. |

Look, I'm not saying it's not a reasonable figure - for weekends, I reckon it is; definitely not weekdays though. I'm just saying, I'd like to know how he got it. Seems to me to be just like how others have come to a similar number and that's almost entirely guesstimating. Without knowing average play session length, it's impossible to be at all accurate or definitive. |

Actually no this is based on a few other MMOs that have active login numbers and subscriber counts published very frequently. Mind you this is few and far between but the model concludes that the average mmo player clocks in 2 hours for the populace which seems about right. |

The play count is fine, and youll see that once to take a step back from the game and look at all the other mutiplayer games on the ps3 in comparrion to dust(but you have to own those games to see for your self),dust is probabaly one of the most active player counts right now compared to other online ps3 games. |

F2P has different requirements and the most important one is related to meeting or exceeding Cash inflow projections. CCP is patient. If the moaners don't know that, which they obviously don't, then they should read some histories about EVE Online. Spending money on what though? There's been ZERO new meaningful content to write home about. A few maps? The amount of people I know that stopped buying AUR because there's no reason to get SP fast anymore. Heavies still have 1 AI weapon and 1 suit. Tanks are still a joke. Scouts are borderline useless. ARs dominate everything, shotgun hit detection is off somehow, and we're basically playing the same game for too long to care about it anymore. How about new weapons? How about new suits? New vehicles? More EVE integration? Make FW mean something? Naaah... first CCP needs to fix their archaic gameplay and visuals and just the general optimization of DUST needs work still. So until all that's been sorted, new content takes a backseat. They say new weapons in 1.5? lol... we'll see. You can choose to believe DUST is fine, and what not, fact is DUST lost ALLOT of beta vets, and the people that actually spent good money on DUST. As long as this game is AR 514 it will slowly lose players. Even AR "pros" will eventually get bored and leave. Numbers ARE going down. I suggest you take a look at the past month or past 3 months chart. |

That's like saying socom was niche. Resistance 1? Kill zone 2? You'll be surprised at how LARGE MAG loyal base is. New console FPS games take from old fps games. That's just how it is. FPS is a GLADIATOR SPORT. You have to go where the fights are. But when, And I mean WHEN mag comes to ps4, you'll see everyone come back. Same with socom.
MAG is remembered fondly with many players. I wouldn't be surprised to see it again. |

I was part of that loyal MAG fan base. I will always have fond memories of that game and every other game to this date just does not seem the same. As much as I enjoy BF3, it just will never be like the first days of MAG. I would not get my hopes up for MAG and Socom coming back. Sony shuttered Zipper who made both games and I have yet to hear of them pawning it off on another developer to recreate.

David Sears is making H-Hour (and he hopes to bring back the Socom base). After all the hype of games, I will wait and see what it delivered.

In principal Dust 514 still is a MMO, even that we don't really have the MMO part of the game yet. GTA games are always the same, you have fun for about a week and then you get bore with them... so, not really a danger.
Battlefield 4 is a different story, is closer to Dust 514 than GTA 5 is. That is a real danger, but even then, it is hard to compare MMO's with Normal games, two different animals. I personally think FF14 "was" the biggest danger, and Dust survived, just about.
This is nowhere near an MMO. It's a FPSRPG if anything. The only RPG side is leveling up your character, cuz we all know there's no customization what so ever. GTA5 SP is R*'s biggest ever. You're underestimating the hype and quality of the game. Then you're also underestimating the fun factor of the MP aspect. FF did take away a few people, so did Diablo, and GTA5 will do the same, then after PS4 with next gen FPS (KZ, PS2, BF4, Blacklight Ret. etc). You think this won't add up? FF is not the biggest danger to DUST by a long shot lol. i have to say that ive quickly grown bored of FF14, while its good its just doing the same thing over and over, log in, grind mobs, maybe run a dungeon or two, log out. i've just gotten bored of doing the exact same things, and im really starting to feel the grind at lv30 which isn't that horrendous, only around 200k XP points, the thought of running into larger and larger grinds is kinda dissuading and i haven't really seen anything that makes me inclined to persist with it. i actually prefer dust to it, the sp system lets me customize my character rather than just unlock the same set of actions as every other archer. i might not subscribe to the game. |
