CCP, I wanted to take a moment and give you some impressions of 1.4 and to see if others are feeling the same way. Firstly, the changes you made overall are AWESOME. The visual changes to the landscape/lighting/weapon fire make the game feel so much...more. I think everyone will agree, however, that the launch of 1.4 has been a disaster, but happily you guys are working your hardest to get the issues resolved in a timely manner.
From your fixes yesterday, matchmaking was lightning quick; we only needed literally a few seconds to have a match made up and deploying. Now, the bug with some squad deploying and some being left behind is utterly annoying, as people have to log out/in to "fix" it, and even that doesn't work. We tried 6 times before we were able to get a whole squad in. So, please get this fixed!! I know you guys are working on fixes for 1.4, which is expected
Next, matches feel so much more dynamic with the squad view/scanning changes. It's epic to watch the enemies "light up" on the map. It's awesome getting a scan in before an orbital or figuring out if someone is "right there" to kill you or if you can safely sprint in the open. Epic changes here. I'll admit I was skeptical that shared vision would improve the game as much as it did, but my corpmates and I agree that it made big changes to the game FOR THE BETTER.
BUT--you guys must bring back the ability for Logi to see who to repair. It's just not practical for a logi who is supposed to be triaging to have to pan and scan around to see hp targets. Don't get me wrong, the screen has MUCH less visual clutter, and it's something I thought I wouldn't notice, but from a target selection/firing point of view, it's much easier to do that. Combined with the controversial aiming changes and I think it's a win overall. But, you guys have to give Logi the ability to see friendlies at least when we have our repair tools out. Just limit it to friendlies within the repper's range.
So, overall I'd say great job, and I'm interested to see how others feel. However, please learn from this experience and have 1.5+ go much more smoothly. Honestly, 1.4's launch has been a disaster, but I'm confident that you guys will adapt. You always have, and its grown a plucky little space sim MMO to be one of the best space games around. Just do the same with this FPS.
How does everyone else feel about it, aside from the forum flamers? |

Bring back the ability to see the names of friendlies from a distance. And perhaps enemies too. It's problematic trying to figure out where your teammates are when you can't tell who it is you're looking at. Also dropship pilots love the new controls, but just need the ability to effectively see the bottom and rear a bit more. Pushing the ship view slightly further forward would help greatly help fix that issue.
Also, with the new changes to the maximum ammo skills of the forge gun, the max ammo is no longer supposed to be 16 but 17. Yet it still says 16. My ammo skill is level 3 and I have 15 rounds. Which means I'll have two more rounds to add to it when I'm maxed out. |

I too am enjoying this update. It forced me to use a scanner for the first time, and holy crap that thing is great. Love how it lights up targets and they glow. But, as a logibro, I have to agree that not being able to see my teammates hp is horrible. As op (and a few others I believe) suggested, maybe tying the ability to see who needs repoing to having the triage tool equipped would be awesome. Or maybe make it a class ability? Whatever, this patch is great, everyone stopped complaining about Md's, which I totally called, and vehicles aren't getting crazy popped by swarms like predicted. At least that I've seen. |

match making is a complete failure. The algorithm is still creating super stacked pub stomping teams with multiple pub stomper corp squads against a hodge podge of lower skilled players on the other team.

I'm calling bs. You are the only person who has said this, if you're being pubstomped then you just suck. If you're losing against corps. Then it's probably because their teamwork is better than yours. Matchmaking was never meant to seperate corp from non-corp, or even skilled from non-skilled players. It's supposed to separate players with superior equipment from players with inferior equipment. |

I've really enjoyed the changes, but the rep tool has had to be retired... which is kind of a bummer for me considering the 900k SP I just spent to get the core focused.
Defo need to have friendly hp back while rep tool is equipped.
Personally I wouldnt prefer if we always saw squad hp out to like 80-100m and then saw friendly hp within LoS while rep tool is equipped out to the same 80-100m.
Scanners are a necessity now which I find kind of annoying, but at least they are actually useful now. |

No, it wasn't intended to separate out by gear but if it was intended to do that, it failed at that too because I have only basic gear and am going against full prototype gear.
As far as calling my BS, my first match this morning, I was on a team of 3 people, each of us from a no name corp. The other team had 10 people, 6 of which were from 2 long established pub stomper corps. That's three low experience people against 6 vets from two corps and 4 more people. That's facts, not BS, so you might want to ask for the facts before you run your mouth off.

See, I think the scanners make the match much more dynamic, and I really like that. It's REALLY nice, too, to have options for equipment. There are several compelling choices, from hives, needles, uplinks, scanners, etc. I'd much rather have too many good choices than a just a few. I'm not sure if the scanners are working as intended, since you can do a 360 and get the whole area scanned with 100% accuracy, but they're great, great, great additions to the battlefield. The "pings" on the map provide so much intel, and it makes the game more tactical, since we can scan down flanking positions to get a better idea of our situation.
And the decrease in visual clutter from so many target brackets makes the visuals of the game stand out more, and the new maps (gorgeous!) and the pla. Other than the problems created for Logistics, the changes in this regard to 1.4 were exceptional.

However, I played an alt character on my main account through the academy, and the first match I played I was up against fully proto equipped squads from Pure Innocence. Granted, I just played the one match, but I recall thinking "oh wow. This is balanced. First match, 500k sp vs proto death squad." If I'm honest, I'm sure it is a bug with how the matchmaking system generates data for matchmaking purposes. It surely must be fixed, since it directly hurts new players.
But generally speaking, I have found matches much more balanced and overall more fun as a result. On my main character, I've found that our squad was matched up against similarly-skilled players most, if not all of the time (barring Tuesday's disastrous 4 v 10, 2 v 6, etc. matches). Rarely are we getting dominated or redlined, and rarely are we dominating or redlining the enemy. This means to me, at least, that something is obviously working in the background to make sure matches make more sense. |

Overall I think the game is way better. I agree with the not seeing friendlies names. Its very irritating. The active scanners are pretty sweet now and I like how it picks up uplinks as well. The whole squad issue is indeed an old familiar headache that I was hoping would never return. The new maps look great. Gameplay is really fun again. Give it time and the bugs should be smoothed out. And the whole militia gun thing, proto guns do more damage but not really that much. When I use the ar i use the toxin or excile because its free. But with complex damage mods and ar proficiency maxed out it still hurts. Theres really no point in running protobecause your gonna die regardless. So when you pull out your most expensive suit, your taking a high risk of losing money. If your dumb enough to continue down that path then the shame is on you. Try running advanced suits with standard or advanced guns but pack on complex modules and you will split the price of your fits in half if not more and still do pretty good. Just cuz it says PROTO doesnt make you a god. Just trying to help. |

I got my nephew to try out dust during our family reunion last weekend (addimittedly pre-1.4). He has played COD for 1000,s of hours over the last 4 years and completely cleaned up in the academy games (top 3 in each match and only took him 3 matches to get the needed 2000 WP). The next 3 matches he was getting 0 kills and dying 10+ time with proto gear vets killing him each time. That's a horrible new player experience. He was excited to try the game when I pitched it, but has not been back on since that experience.
Later today, the matches were not as badly placed as this morning. Looking at the player list the corp composition seemed generally more balanced. there were still some stompings, but at a more tolerable number. |

my first match this morning, I was on a team of 3 people, each of us from a no name corp. The other team had 10 people, 6 of which were from 2 long established pub stomper corps. That's three low experience people against 6 vets from two corps and 4 more people. The next three battles I played I was on a team of random people (i.e. no corp squads), 80-90% of them from no name corps, while the other team had 2-3 corp squads from pub stomper corps (e.g. pure innocence, Sver true blood) that made up 50-75% of the team. In each battle, if they had moved one of the corp squads to the other team, the battles would likely have been more balanced instead of ambushes going 47+ to 0 and Ambush OMS going 70+ to 0.
These battles were all at 9 in the morning, so it may be the algorithm failing with low player counts, but creating such massively unbalanced teams when there was a clear solution given a basic rearranging of the players on the two teams seems like a major failing of the algorithm regardless of poor player count.

If this is allegedly just about my ego, then why can I predict when the team I am on will pubstomp by looking at the list of corps on my team. If my team has a pubstomping corp squad and the other team doesn't, my team almost always slaughters. I don't enjoy those games either (another refutation of your ego argument) because the battle is boring then: I either get way more kills and assists than my skill and gear warrants, or do nothing because the corp squad is cleaning up too quickly. I find pubstomping not fun regardless of what side of the stomping I am on. Balanced games make for a more enjoyable experience.

[EDIT] and I think almost ALL scouts have hated the intro of the aimbot and perfect hit detection on the AR, my SG and NK still deal no DMG alot!
I think for a skilled assassin scout such as yourself, this patch will have caused nothing but problems. Pre-patch notes I was seriously considering switching min-logi due to improved hit-detection and aim-assist (neither of which I disagreed with - the former definitely had my much needed approval) and lower strafing basically eradicating my only defence in combat.
In all honesty though, (and I've been bleating on about this recently) as an armour tanking, active scanner loving (AR [ab]using) Gallente 'Scout' scout, everything about this patch has somehow worked out in my favour. The best thing is, not only have my worries about the changes been for (more or less) nothing, the only previous positive I had about this patch - improved hit detection making it easier/reliable to kill when flanking/sneaking - has actually worked out that way.
Don't get me wrong - scouts are still hilariously UP (which is kinda part of the charm...), but at least now, instead of relying on broken mechanics to keep me alive, I can actually form and execute an attack plan and have them not get f'ed up by half my bullets passing through my unaware victim (sticking to random objects seem to occur less as well) If anything, mini-logi is still appealing so I can carry uplinks and scanner at the same time - with scanner I get better Kdr, with uplinks better WP.
Things I don't like about 1.4 - grunts - probably just me, but every time my merc grunts (which is a lot) I keep thinking someone is firing a shotgun, sounds weird - maybe male mercs sound better.
Lastly, they removed the 'damp and slide'... Not sure if it got fixed when being rezzed as well...
Overall +1 to CCP (but scouts need love soon...) |

I agree with everyone about the rep tool being pretty messed up at the moment (same with not being able to see squad members names when a ways away, even when looking right at them... you can't identify squad members for orders etc).
I think having a real small bar under a players tag that displays the armour left ratio whenever a player DOES NOT have full armour should be added for ANY character that has a repair tool equipped. Repping is not limited to logis, if you equip it you need to be able to get some feedback on when to use it. |

Two words, Aim Assist. This feature is ruining the game for me. I used to be a real good shot with my Dren AR and M209 SMG, but now I'm getting easy-killed left and right just because it has become so easy to keep that reticle on target. Not to mention the fact that logis are becoming more and more unappealing because of all these new features. How am I supposed to know who needs reps when I can't see who's low on health, and how can I give the team tactical support when my uplinks only work for squad? |
