A simple fix for getting rid of Sniper Tanking and Forge Gun Sniping. Long story short, get rid of the splash damage for Rail Guns and Forge Guns. Then people will no longer be able to just shoot near objectives and kill everyone trying to hack it with the Forge Gun, and, unless they are really skilled, will be using it for AV. Same with Rail Guns. Unless you are really skilled, you won't be able to hit infantry from really far away, so you will use it for AV. Tada! Now I understand that I am obviously an idiot, and that this is a horribly stupid idea, but please tell me why! I wouldn't have posted this had I known why it was a horrible idea... Thanks for your input! |

People will whine because Forge gun sniping is not a problem.
People wanting to stay still results in FG sniping.
Although i wouldnt mind. Only direct hits with my Kaalakiota FG.I could still snipe you. |

I understand that it would still be possible to snipe with the FG, but you wouldn't be ontop of a building shooting the ground near an objective and killing everyone hacking it. |

That's odd, because if you are going for realism, shouldn't you explode as soon as you fire because the antimatter would annihilate when it came in contact with the planet's atmosphere? Oh I kid, yes I have snipped with my rail tank, and can simply redline people because of the splash damage. So, unless you have another rail tank, or a Forge Gun, i can just take cover and you won't kill me... It's a cheap way to get kills and I honestly think we would be better without it... I agree that the rail gun should be a long range weapon, but without the splash damage to make it less practical to just shoot at those tiny little soldiers from the MCC... |

you are right.I dont use a Assault Forge gun so i dont need plash damage to get kills. I would be on top of the building shooting directly a poor dude....Believe it or not , Except SOME players that actually aim for Splash damage kills , some forge gunners have skill. The splash damage is , in the CASE I miss, to do some damage as a reward, for using a Fat a** and having spent a LOT of SP to get to weaponry 5, Heavy weapon operation 3,Forge gun proficiency 5mreload speed 3,ammo capacity 4 and Proficiency 4.....
Im against it , by the way, your proposition. But i want just you to know, that even with a splash damage reduction/removal,You will still be shot in the face by good FG snipers at 300+ mts away....

Good! If you have the skill to decapitate me from 300+m, then I applaud you. I also agree that once you have spent thousands of SP on a weapon it should kill, but my point is I have spent just as much on my dropsuit and the splash damage can still kill me while I'm hacking. That's what needs to be fixed, and I feel that a splash damage removal would make it so you have to have a direct line of sight, which means you wont be 500m away on some skyscraper waiting for the objective to start flashing before you shoot at it and kill me and my teammates hacking it... |

Are they getting nerfed? If they are, would this mean that I would survive splash damage long enough to hack an objective? |

One quick question, because if you are really close, shouldn't you be using a blaster? (I mean at close range it does do the most damage of the three) And, yes, tanks should be cheaper or tougher, but that's a discussion for another forum... |

I blame CCP not the forge gunner. Who designs a map where you have areas only accessible to drop ships that allow the other 90% of the map to be as easily hit as if they were standing in front of you & out of range of all but 2 weapons?
Biggest complaint from the closed portion of the beta, Line Harvest Map and the stupid towers.
... ccp's response was to make a domination map - that A capture/hack point overlooked perfectly by someone on the northern one closer to the east side. But wait these skilled players weren't just content with forge sniping or putting a tank on there... for some reason our rookie pilot could not figure out how to get up that high while staying alive against the 4 forge gunners shooting at him. To add to their cowardice they put uplinks inside the pipe right under the tower.... funny how my proto level Flux grenades seemed to not be able to destroy them when landing and detonating right upon them.
Ladders and Elevators to the high spots or make some other change to the maps, oh right I forgot the sniper rifle, .... it apparently seemed to like hitting the ledge they were standing on and they were shooting thru versus actually hitting the truly low caliber players that like to hide up there for cheap kills.

Yes, but if that gets you a direct hit, then awesome! You get a kill! I'm talking about splash getting you kills because you were "close enough" instead of actually hitting the guy. |

I'm pretty sure you're actually being hit directly, sir.
AFAIK (Unless this was fixed recently) the hitbox for objectives is obnoxious and absorbs almost all splash damage around it.
And you're not agreeing with me, Sir. IMO, Just because you can hit someone directly with a charge up shotgun doesn't mean you deserve to die. The ease of use of the forge gun does not justify it's power versus infantry, in my humble opinion. It's a problem gun. People say it's supposed to kill both vehicles and infantry, and I do not like this. In my mind, it's an AV weapon. People should never prefer to stick with an AV weapon as a primary rather than switch to their sidearm for AP work.
Honestly, I'd prefer it if they made it like AV grenades, which deal reduced damage to infantry and their normal damage to vehicles, or something like that. OFC the lore/realism crowd are going to say "BUT IT IS A CHARGED PLASMA ROUND GOING 7km/s!!!!"
My response is this : Lore being used to justify bad/unfun gameplay is bad lore. Lore needs to be used to explain good and fun things after they are established, not the other way around.
When it comes to railguns, pretty much all of them have a pretty low splash except for the compressed. All that one needs is its splash being brought into line with the other rail turrets, and it's totally fine. Forge splash is a bit high too IMO, but it's not able to OHK pretty much any suit in the game (any more) which makes it tolerable, even if I'd personally like to see it toned down. |

Don't flux grenades only do shield damage or am I thinking of something else? Also, isn't that what these forums are for? We can voice our complaints, and hopefully they will get fixed. |

I completely agree, if you can land direct hits, I deserve to die. But, if you are FG sniping and notice an objective is being hacked, but can't see me, you shouldn't be able to shoot the ground near the objective and kill me.
OFC the lore/realism crowd are going to say "BUT IT IS A CHARGED PLASMA ROUND GOING 7km/s!!!!" My response is this : Lore being used to justify bad/unfun gameplay is bad lore.
I think there was a misunderstanding, i meant the "I deserve to die" statement as if someone had landed a direct hit on me. Also, I agree that the splash radius/damage needs to be toned down for the FG's and Compressed RGs. |

Is the direct damage hitbox the actual size of the FG's projectile? |
