If the sniper is not within your draw distance and has not recently been rendered on your client there will be no sounds, no bullet trail.
This means snipers will usually be privy to the bullet trails of other snipers. By zooming in at any point they've significantly increased the range at which their client is rendering objects and enemies.
Most everyone else? Outside of 250m you're not going to see a bullet trail. |

Countermeasures:
- Sniper rifle
- Forge gun
- Rail tanks
- Just about any other weapon if you go looking for the sniper
- Serpentine!
- Orbital strikes
Now, let's move on to situational awareness:
- Watch the kill feed. It's free intel.
- Before crossing open ground scan common perches and the hills. They light up red like anybody else.
- Listen for the 'tink' of missed shots.
- Watch for the bullet trail. Its like an arrow pointing right at the sniper.
I snipe maybe 20% of the time. I hunt snipers just as much. Often, on foot with an assault rifle. Most snipers are weak up close. (I'm not) |

Already like this. I know when someone is getting sniped, and sometimes I use this when I'm hunting snipers- I just prowl the bottom of cliffs listening for shots. |

The distant rendering thing is BS because of the AR514 crowd. I cant kill them with my insert AR and that means its not fair and there weapon is OP. I should be able to shoot the sun and the moon and make it rain when I willed it too because I use an AR and I am not smart enough to take cover. Quit John Wayning it and learn some tactics. Also I red line snipe because its a tactical move and allows me to remain safe as I rain death upon the battlefield. I do get counter sniped and it frustrates me because I cannot see who shot me due to poor graphics rendering. Here is a no brainer 300 meters is less than a thousand feet or just over three football fields. When I was in the Corp we shot at 500 yards with a M16A2 service rifle with no scope. I can put 8 out of 10 rounds into a mans heart and 10 out of 10 in to a mans chest from that range. So the sniper rifle in the game is a joke considering my M16 had more range. There is 5280 Feet in a mile which equals just over 1609 Meters so place the limit at 800 meters and that would be more realistic than it is now. i don't think realism is what this game is going for bud, by the way what is your battalion name brother? |

Swarms can lock on at 400m with Forges hitting up to 320m, both can operate against a vehicle from outside the distance infantry will begin to render without zooming in. |

Unless in a firefight I hear missed shots nearby, even without them hitting something. The sound is appropriately audible to me, but I wear a headset so I'm not sure if that makes a difference. |

There are a lot of subtle sounds in the game. If you have people on voice comms or you are constantly moving and gunning you can miss a lot of them.
I'm cross training into scout and now spend most of my time away from the action. Lately, I've also been mostly squad-less which is great for cutting out noise. When I find a quiet corner I'll pause for a moment to just listen for gunfire, vehicles and footsteps. When hunting in the hills for snipers it helps to stop frequently instead of just running around like a mad man.
Listening is also most important when hacking. Hearing footsteps or decloaking has saved my clone on many occasions and allowed me to either get away or engage under less surprised conditions. |

Um not really. its kinda there but most times you never notice it and i know other don't either because i miss quite abit with the sniper rifle and they continue to stand perfectly still. Trust me. You do hear a sound, provided they strike something near you or the bullet/slug passes closeby. there is no sound at all. record it on youtube and prove me wrong. there is no fu cking sound with snipers. and they need fuc king countermeasures with that stupid cowardly weapon. You're wrong.
I hear the ******* "pffft!" as the sniper round misses me all the time. Maybe you think the sound is something else. lol |

Asirius and a few others have this correct. I hear sniper rounds whizz by me often. If I am lucky enough to hear it (meaning I am not surrounded by a ton of other explosions and don't have squad mates talking about the latest offering from Subway) I tend to immediately change direction and sprint for cover.
