We have a number of likely-looking mountains that we want to do a rough height-check on; once we've established some baselines for those, we'll be in a position to consider doing hill-climbing to find local maxima.
The tests are highly optimized though so testing is still going to remain rapid fire and integrated on until its just right.
Oh how lovely pile of bullshit. Yada yada mountains yada yada reasonably optimized yada local maxima.
Anyway, the system in place (Academy and Matchmaking) SUCK SO MUCH ASS!
It ******* isn't rocket-science to make SOMETHING to the matchmaking RIGHT NOW. It should've been done million years ago but no, CCP is 'jumping between reasonably (REALLY!? REASONABLY?) optimized implementations blahblahblah' and meanwhile every new player gets assraped. |

I would break the NDA but then I remember the consequences of doing so.
Starting with illegitimizing every CPM from now on, including elected ones.
So no, you get the satisfaction of winning this round and how ineffective I would be at any retort I am not allowed to make. |

Also, for god's sake, please expand your diction instead of using "derp" repeatedly; It really makes you look like a fool. |

Himiko Kuronaga wrote:Some people, like myself, are good at basically any shooter we pick up, pretty much instantly. There's things to learn but that just makes us even better.
And then there's some people, like her, who are not.
That's ok.
New Eden is doing exactly what it is supposed to do. Chewing up the people who can't handle it and letting them know exactly where they stand.
Frankly, if certain people were not getting overwhelmed and driven off I would be highly disappointed in this game.
The only thing it needs to do as far as im concerned is make itself worthy of the people who can handle it. There is always a market for hardcore competitive games with basically zero hand-holding. They just need to be good enough to justify their existence.
That is odd, because Dust is about as far removed from being a hardcore competitive game as anything I've ever played. And the irony is that there is actually a lot to do in Dust that can be fun even if you suck at FPS, it's just that nobody tells you.
Putting in a lot of stuff in a game that is never explained other than through experimentation does not make it hardcore, it makes it tedious. It's a common misconception that putting up with tedious stuff somehow makes you tougher or smarter than anybody who doesn't, when actually it just means that you have more time to waste.
And you know why you are good at basically any shooter you pick up? Because you've played a lot of shooters. Like me. Yay, high five, this clearly makes us superior (not). |

I'd say hats off to her for filming her new player experience.
There will always be players of different skill levels, you can see that the magnetism in aim assist they will be introducing will help new players like that. Also a lot of the HUD is confusing for new players, for example when she's standing next to the supply depot, getting ammo and she mentions she's getting points - as it's the same font and colour as kill points I understand the confusion. Finally, matchmaking will help to a point, and of course the skill of the player. Hopefully she'll stick around!

Her first game
* 0-7 in Ambush on Manus Table Top
* Quoting her at the end of the video: " That was terrible, I was terrible, I feel terrible, I don't wanna play THIS anymore"
2nd game? i didn't bother.
The thing is, if this was Cod, or BF3 aiming in the general direction and hitting something like she does sometimes in sheer luck would have netted her some kills to feel better about herself, ill give you that one in Dust you stripped a few bars of shields.
If she wants to actually play FPS games and i doubt she actually plays OTHER fps games, general stuff applies to both types of shooters and i did not see her bring in any Awareness, Ability to Aim at moving targets and dodging bullets and to get back to her Aim, its jerky like someone that has never held a controller until today, well i know my movements with the controller are exactly the same as hers and ive never held a controller in my life.
To sum it up, playing Dust for the very first time is not going to cure the "I Suck" syndrome she portrays flawlessly in the movie. |

^ This.
While a better NPE would be most helpful it wouldn't be able to overcome anyone's potential of non-gamer, I mean halo 4 still does the 'is this your first shooter? here run stage one with some hand holding."
Either way its going to be a busy weekend I have to wrap up the NPE summary report to present soon now that there is a deadline for it > <.
Hopefully whatever CCP designs and supplements around Battle Academy would work out as a good second iteration to NPE. |

I don't think most Vets or CCP realize what a HUGE disadvantage new players have....No core skills to back into, poor equipment that is not match against anything, rubbish aiming mechanics that doesn't allow to use your skills and experience.

Painful as in a really bad player? Because she sort of sucked. rofl Yea I'm sure you were beast when you just started playing right? I sort of was. I hope you're not white knighting it. rofl Simply speaking, it's a FPS game, all FPS games follow general rules. She really didn't have any battle awareness, it doesn't take whatever WP points to learn, you just have it. I love the parts where she'll spawn and just stand there, yes when I play a shooter game, that's my first reaction when spawning in a fire fight. The full auto at long range was cute. Next!
eh she's no different then most call of duty players.
in cal of duty you shoot in their direction and they die, in dust you need to dance around strafing and hit 20 or 30 times( at least with the gun she was using. )
straight out of teh academy she would not of known how to fight a proto user or hw many hits they take, the users in the academy most likely would have been dropping in 5 or 6 shots.
that's a pretty big leap in difficulty, especially when you aren't expecting it. aside from that she's still likely learning all the weapons, first game in the academy I suspec t nobody even had anything aside from militia fits, which will hardly prepare you for mass driver spam, and murder taxi's/ |
