Well I had a meeting over the subject and overall all I can say about is that I am practically muzzled on the details on the whole ordeal to the point I don't think I am allowed to share my feelings over the meeting yet.
So I will point back to CCP Greyscale's post here https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1146870#post1146870
To which I quote:
CCP Greyscale wrote:
Yes, we are.For a number of reasonswe're running tests on a weekly cadence right now, so we don't really have time to explore the entire possibility space variable-by-variable. Instead we're jumping between reasonably optimized implementations of various different plausible models of new player behavior, to try and establish as quickly as possible which model gets us in the right ballpark. We have a number of likely-looking mountains that we want to do a rough height-check on; once we've established some baselines for those, we'll be in a position to consider doing hill-climbing to find local maxima.
The tests are highly optimized though so testing is still going to remain rapid fire and integrated on until its just right. |

I would break the NDA but then I remember the consequences of doing so.
Starting with illegitimizing every CPM from now on, including elected ones.
So no, you get the satisfaction of winning this round and how ineffective I would be at any retort I am not allowed to make. |

Aero Yassavi wrote:This is a combination of a terrible NPE in Dust as well as a gamer who is just being introduced to competitive multiplayer shooters.
^ This.
While a better NPE would be most helpful it wouldn't be able to overcome anyone's potential of non-gamer, I mean halo 4 still does the 'is this your first shooter? here run stage one with some hand holding."
Either way its going to be a busy weekend I have to wrap up the NPE summary report to present soon now that there is a deadline for it > <.
Hopefully whatever CCP designs and supplements around Battle Academy would work out as a good second iteration to NPE. |

Yeah... ok.. sometimes is funny, i'm guilty of teasing the occasional NooB too...but i feel horrible after, and i let them kill me few times as a "Sorry" type of thing. Still... we should try to be a bit more welcoming with new players, and you know that.
Out of any known NPE method the taking people under the wing has been proven the most effective.
While I doubt we would ever reach Fails of the Weak status that halo enjoys, we can try to mitigate the worst of mistakes and the sorts by designing better training methods for the new player and try to work on matchmaking well enough so that the 'wall slam' doesn't happen as day one before the battle academy existed. |

CommanderBolt wrote:Academy folks that have not been in the game long, hell from the very start of the game, need clear progression points until your in the clear so to speak and have a decent amount of sp and battles under your belt.
Have some basic classes to look at visually and then have the game prompt you to skill towards (For instance a brawler type "Assault" visual image might suggest speccing into damage mods and core shield / armour skills where as an advanced medic type might suggest equipment and hit point extenders like shield extenders and armour plates. Maybe a testing area for the weapon types and ranges, a firing range would be ideal.
Also academy should be just like the original game modes, yes you can tweak the clone count but dont make it too small.
Some basic voice overs and visual guides would do the trick to inform the new players about things like null cannon objectives, what supply depots and CRU`s do etc...
Wishes audio voice overs localizations were not so expensive >< |

I don't have complete thoughts and I am conscious on how many posts I make. If I had not been doing this I would have about.... 40,000+ posts. |
