I see it as well- Even Elite Dangerous has a road map for integrating the FPS design into their game. They will have avatar based space combat with space walks. Not only will the FPS aspect be added to the game but you will have no loading screens...

A highly modified version of the Unreal Engine 3 was confirmed at the Eve fan fest where PL was revealed. Valkyrie is being developed with the Unreal Engine 4 and is just awaiting an Occulus Rift release date. Eve Online is using their own engine....
