I have noticed that flux grenades aren't as devastating as their stats suggest as well. Curtain weapons do less damage to vehicles maybe it was intentional. I have never skilled up in tanks and frankly I suck at using them, but I'm still doing ok...

And when a target directly beneath the ship don't shoot until the pilot has adjusted the position of the ship so that you don't hit the dropship. Your shots cause the ship to tip and it can **** things u for the pilot
