It sometimes depend, in eve for me it pays out to put in 4 balistic controls instead of 3 (increases my dps by 40) on my ship, as long as you don't need the slots for something more important.

Well you can shoot inbetween each slug loaded or swap to a sidearm, just make sure not to miss a shot, it puts the fear into heavies as no other shotgun.
