ARs do not have enough range to hit from "miles away". They do however eat through shields faster than most other weapons. They are slow against armor though.

Unless you are a super damped scout you can forget about ever avoiding scans again. Active scanners light up huge areas and share scans with ENTIRE team. Nobody can sneak up on/ flank anybody without being seen. I just played a dom in a new socket...
