The warbage has a screen at each end, both showing the current players in game. Why not make one of the screen show graphs of recent FW results in the region you are about to fight in.

you'll find FW battles in the mercenary tab. they'll keep starting up as needed. wait for one that involves a faction you want to fight for (or against) and join the side you want. * if you are not joining as a squad, it's a good idea to squad up...
