Mayhaps there's a bad file in the update or it's overwriting a file the PS3 thought was important. Only real fix is to download the client, uninstall and reinstall.

Generally most of the BPOs will be in the Militia section. There's only a handful of BPOs that aren't Militia and those require real skill investments to make use of.
