Such a strange choice...
Haha, well... it's true, we did record that onsite at the circus
Going through each of these sounds in the list:
- Vehicle active scanner: Totally agree, that sound is terrible. A lot of the vehicle modules I'm supremely unhappy with
- Sniper Rifle Charge: Agree, needs some work
- Headshot sound: Totally Agree, it was a bad idea (you can find other threads like this). I don't think we'll go back to the cello hits, since it doesn't match the music, but we'll change this
- LAR: Sorry, don't agree :) Fits the lore of the weapon. It's a love it or hate it sound, we went through more than 15 different "finalized" sounds before this one. If you were in the open beta you may remember it changing every release. I like this one, it's the bread and butter of the weapons
- Jameson Irish Whiskey: I'm more of single malt guy myself, but I never turn down a drink
- Regenerating Shields: Halfway agree, it's not perfect but its close. I wish I could actually use the tardis sound....
- Shotguns: Also disagree, I mean - it does sound a bit like a basketball, but that's the air compressing inside the weapon. The only reason I hate this sound is too often someone comes up behind me and kills me with one shot...
The bad news: We're taking the sound a little slower right now, since I'm helping out with control issues, voice chat issues and some UI stuff. Basically I'm sacrificing big advances on the sound to help some areas in the game that directly impact gameplay. The other sound guys are working on environments and other stuff that may not be available until the future. Some of these poor sounds will not see an improvement right away. Headshot and vehicle modules are the first on the list, and that won't be in until 1.5.
We are watching the forums a lot for what sounds just annoy people, even if we don't respond to everything. The thing is that what sounds cool the first time may not sound great after 100 times so the input here helps a lot. |
