Noticing a trend....most of the reasoning behind all the "this game sucks because (insert any other typical FPS) has more of this and better that" Maybe if you stop comparing this game to those. If you want BF3.... well go play BF3 and if you like fish go reel in that other crap or should I say carp:D |

FOX Engine runs fine on the PS3 so that invalidates your hardware is holding it back And with MGS5 bringing a new iteration of MGO thats going to be the game that makes me leave this place |

People compare dust to bf3 more than cod because thats what the game is closer too. Now if it was more like ps2, will everyone will be comparing it to ps2. With the ps4 coming out and other great tittles like THE DIVISION (which has a lot of the player interaction that ccp is planining on doing) This game will be the shadow to those light. Now the point of this post was to encourge ccp to make this game "unique". This game cant really be compared to bf3 beacuse its modern shooter vs syfi but with Starwars battlefront in development Dust is gonna have harder road to travel. Especialy if it comes on ps3 |

People who can't view it objectively often compare it to BF3 because they don't have the intellect to judge it on its own merit. And when they do, they judge prematurely or unfairly. Dust is here for the long haul. It only appeals to a niche audience. So if you're not into it, that's fine. There's other games, that you mentioned, that will be out shortly to get your attention.

You probably suck anyway and get tea bagged often...it must suck when you suck... LOLOLOOOL!!! I have spent almost all me sp on the dropships (9mil) and i use lvl 1 logi (minmitar) and hold my own ground in battle plus i why the hell would you bring "you suck" point here? Just becuase someone says something negative about a game doesnt mean cuz they suck. Now i do plan on getting good games, and i do love what does is trying to become but the point im trying to bring is that "at the rate its going, we wont get to the good part of dust as ccp plans". I love dust but people like, are just WOW. |

No biggie Honestly i acutally hoped dust to do a kickstarter before it got in development. I dont know if the reason they are slow is because of the money or just hardware (and experince) problem but the major problem i have with ccp is them promising something and not brining it. Dust would've neem a whole different game if it had the commander laying orders, big maps where everyone has their roles, ect. |

Just because YOU don't think dust isn't a good game doesn't mean other people agree with you. It's YOUR OPINION, NOT MINE OR THE COMMUNITIES. And if it's so bad like you claim it is than why you're still posting? Gtfo |

Just because it connects to eve/lets eve players rain down orbital strikes from space doesnt make the game "unique". Good games have their own things. Battlefield: Amazing graphics/large maps. Cod: Fast past/a lot of player base. Now dust needs to make its own set of role. Right now the one thing "unique" in dust i can think of is the way you can socialise ( none of the console games i've played does it like dust). |

I remember back on close beta, some of the maps were huge. I remember playing that one map that MCC has to land. Our Current map size is ok unless they will bring back the old map that you transition from the other to the next. Also, I hate running. |

The dropships main role (to transport) is useless with these small maps, and so sense transporting people from places is not a factor us pilots only choice is to have gunners and take our chances of getting killed by forges. Also i dont see why they didnt implant skrimish 3.0 (improved 1.0 as they claimed) it makes perfect sense. |

Been reading a lot of negative threads lately. I think dust is unique in the sense of the skill system. Never seen that in a game that is like a fps. I do agree that does needs new stuff but it's a new game, you can't expect it to be great so fast. Also supporting the game financially might help out. So far i love dust because its fun imo. What's really messing up the game is people who cry about nerf and imbalance in the game which keeps CCP from actually focusing about it's core problems. |

If the whiners had it their way the iphones of today would have tactile keyboards like blackberries, They just don't understand, if it isn't battlefield or cod how can it be good?
If CCP is making the game I THINK they are making this will be a unicorn among FPS. If they invest in enough interaction between EVE and DUST this game could be incredible beyond measure. No one wants to wait for it. Most don't have a clue what is possible. I like the idea of POCOS control by dust mercs and the drone PVE aspect. I liked the idea for buying/manning turrets vs eve pilots. It really is whatever the two communities can dream up.
Yea!? when is this gonna happen? when i grow old and die? i havent finished high school for gods sake. This game has been in development way before they showed off in 2009 and look where we are at now. Why didn't we test jets back in beta? why didn't we hear/see anything about the commander?

Dust 514 is hard for people to enjoy, and even for "Vets". I've sometimes asked myself "What's the Point?" CCP needs to get us to do things in EVE , sure we have FW but they are no different from instant battles. Right now we're stuck in the same position we've been in since closed beta. |

Ive changed my play habits for DUST, if i can play for an hour or two its good, but I am actively trying not to invest too much time into it. I've played other games to death, and from where i am sitting, DUST is on the long road and not the short run.
So yes i totally agree, there needs to be more to do than just play Lobby Shooter. I also agree (somewhat) with Doom an Gloom, but god forbid he gets encouraged on his emo tirade :P ...
I genuinely believe that alot of the frustration is coming from or influenced by younger gamers so used to cookie cutter game production tactics, that they cannot appreciate the process that is going on with DUST. Kind of a case of "wake up, open your eyes!!!", you are being invited to have input into systems, that in years to come will for all intents and purposes, be set in stone.
If and when we start to see non-lobby RP elements then it will be years from now, but the width and breadth of the game behind it should be breathtaking upon retrospect.
...hmm i assume too much... i'll probably have to eat those words someday

They even promised other stuff this year at fanfest you think we will have it by the end of the year as they said? I have high hopes for this game but at the end of the day you cant really put it on the same page as other great games. Its unfair to compare dust to bf3 but sense dice took over StarWars lets see how long it takes for them to throw out a "full release game" that has everything in it.
Again, that was all made in an engine unsuited to this platform, and they had to toss it all and start over because you can't just "port stuff" over to an entirely new engine. So much self-pwnage. If they just realized what miserable piece of cr*p the PS3 is tech wise. I believe he is referring to the Unreal Engine; not the ps3 hardware. As they have been saying the ps3 has great hardware for a console but is a ***** to program for; so it isn't the system hardware cause we have seen some really amazing games on ps3. If you don't like the ps3 why own one anyway? Don't like it go get a PC or Xbox and go away. :p I know. But they scrapped Carbon because it couldn't run very well on the PS3. It is made for PC, a generic architecture.
I bought a PS3 to play games with, not programing. Blu-ray and free online was the winning points for me. And not being M$.
The PS3 is sh*t hardware wise though, especially for a gaming platform. A good gaming platform is not foremost about being powerful, but being easy to use (for the programmer). Spending time on just learning how to make things work on a specific platform, instead of the game itself, is basically waste of time. And also money. I'm not a programmer, but I have a good view of how things work. I have immersed myself in the matter, and I can tell you that the Cell is a totally new way of thinking. I think STI is way ahead of time, and also suffering from things going another direction than they predicted and hoped for. The whole point of the Cell is "to bridge the gap between the CPU and GPU". When the project started in 2000, CPUs and GPUs were very separate. Now they have come closer together by much easier and cheaper means than the Cell made it. A CPU can do GPU stuff, and vice versa. Not very good, but it is possible.
Originally Sony planned to have two Cells in the PS3. Only. The Cell is meant to do both generic calculations, and vector stuff. But they ran into manufacturing problems because of the difficult design, and in the end had to rethink it all, and scrap one Cell to be able to get enough working chips to actually release the PS3. They called Nvidia to put a GPU in it, and the architecture remake that followed is what totally f*cked up the PS3. Basically the Cell and the Nvidia chip don't "speak" to each other, so they had to come up with many quirky stuff and workarounds to make them play. That's why the memory is divided in 256MB for Cell and 256MB for the RSX. The RSX can't access the Cell memory directly, and the Cell can't access the RSX memory directly, only via detours. One way is good, but another is terrible. Don't remeber which, but one data route is limited to 16MB/s. Usual number here are same in gigabytes. This made programming very difficult. Originally the PS3 was meant to have 512MB unified memory which both Cells could access. And I haven't even mentioned Cell itself...
The Cell is something you can research for decades, and still find new ways to use it. It is truly groundbreaking.
But..! a big but here... We still get decent performance leaps with the usual methods of manufacturing process shrinking, microarcitecture tweaks and adding cores. But we are very soon at the top of what is achievable in relation to cost, and not far away from the outright physical border. And when that happens, I think the Cell will shine. But it will take some more years for that, maybe up to a decade.
They didn't put the Cell in the PS3 because it was the best choice. The put it there to get the Cell out on the market, and thus paving the way for a whole new processor era, rivaling basically everyone from Intel to Texas instruments, since it was meant to be scalable and fit in everything from supercomputers to TVs. That was the plan. They had a very strong brand and platform to put it in: Playstation 3. Thus they would force propgrammers to use it, spread knowledge, and thus making it more viable in other ways.
This basically made gaming programmers real world test players for the Cell, which had to figure out themselves how to work with it. Everything was brand new, so compilers and other tools were in an infant phase. And having many cores, especially weak ones, is generally a very bad thing for game programing. Since everything is run in real time, all threads have to be synced for every frame, which makes thread splitting very difficult, and mostly impossible. One calculation is awaiting the result from another, thus they cannot be done simultaneously, in parallel, but must be done serial. That makes one strong, or a few fairly strong cores a way better choice for gaming than many weaker cores. I would say that more than 4 cores for gaming is not very useful, even in the years to come. And it's not because of lazy progammers, like many think, but because of the nature in game programming.
This got way longer and than I thought. But there you go. |
