Just a quick note, we are tweaking some instant battle settings today in order to gather new data for our prototyping work. You may notice slightly longer delays in getting a battle, although it should still be pretty quick.
If you notice any issues please reply to this thread and I'll be monitoring it all day today.

What kind of tweaks? As in making matchmaking better? Gear, SP, WP specific?

That would be nice to know because as is, playing by yourself in DUST is like playing the old World War II games where the A.I. is just for show and don't do anything until you singlehandedly take on and defeat the entire army. |

There are just too many variables to consider to create a match making system that will create fair matches on a consistent basis. What needs to happen is multiple lobbies based on gear used or SP levels. I would welcome the challenge of proto only pub matches but there are proto bears who would get butthurt over the potential KDR hit those matches would entail. |

The game should give a 'rank' to each of your saved fittings based on the combined total of meta levels for all the parts to it. Starter and militia fits wouldn't be counted as everyone can use them.
It then adds up each of the rank scores from all your fittings to get an average. Then 50% is added to that average to counteract deliberate 'weighting' of the average. (Having a dozen low meta fits to lower the average of the two high meta fits you actually use).
This rank is measured against players and you can be matched into matches where the average rank is say, 10 (as an example) to either side of you.
For squads the average of the squad is determined and 30% added to the squad average (so lower ranked players in a squad aren't at too much of a disadvantage)
This system would also allow players to control their matchmaking to a certain degree. Finding the high level matches too hard or costly? Create lower meta suits to lower your rank and play against worst ranked players BUT you have same level of gear as they do, meaning your trainee skills will be an advantage but they won't stomped by better equipped opponents.

Taking the total or average meta level of equipment into consideration when matchmaking totally makes sense. But it should not be the only parameter that is considered! |

How about you design a "no squads" matchmaking. Only players who are solo can join. Top corp squads get to play with top corp squads. If it's a mediocre squad vs a good squad well that's their problem. Last of Us does this and it works pretty well. Also extending the academy time will make it less hard for new players when facing people with proto gear. |

Don't know if this is cuz of CCP but I had an interesting battle just now. I went into a instant battle skirmish and 4 guys from A.N.O.N.Y.M.O.U.S were there along with 1 guy from Unknown Killers were on the other team at first I was like ***. But two people from SAM-INK joined the battle on my side, and we had an internal error guy that afked the whole time. I wasn't sure how this was going to turn out, we lost but the guys on the other team had about 30 clones left and we had around 50. |

I've noticed one of the deciding factors in the games I play is how many people decide to go sniper. If it is 3+ my team nearly always loses. Then you add any afkers to that and we are doomed. |

Not to sound all "doom and gloom" but this matchmaking update is too late.
This should have been implemented when DUST had 9000+ people, which was a week or 2 after the official release. Now DUST has 3-4k people...maybe less, and matchmaking becomes important?

Were these changes deployed during downtime? If so that must explain why I saw so many tanks in my battles (as I am a tanker). Only one out of all of them managed to kill me... twice. I think it still needs work because all of the other tanks I saw were either militia tanks that stood no chance against me or other less skilled tankers. |

I wasn't playing at my best tonight but we seemed to get more proto suited opponents than normal but...

Good times, I remember the early COD games, I'd purposely leave some enemies alive to see if my allies would help. I always remember Big Red One, and how bad my allies were, so many names of different soldiers went past into Machine Guns..

I haven't yet played, am looking forward to trying out the changes with my alt playing solo in ambush tonight.
I am just curious though, how difficult would it be to implement no-squad options? I've thought this would be one heck of a idea, but no word from CCP on whether or not it is feasible to put in.
Cause lets face it, unless there is a human being hand-picking sides and knows how everybody is going to play, MM will never work. There is just too many variables. No-squad options seems to be about as flawless as you can get. If it's possible and easy enough to put in, why not try it out for a little bit? Where's the harm? Couldn't be any worse for players than it is now. |

constructive? it wasn't meant to be.
Me and many others asked for this since BEFORE Chromosome and during. We knew what was going to happen. So my constructive posts did nothing in the end. So I'm expressing my disappointed that this issue is only now being taken seriously. |
