Destiny offers nothing tbh except capes and graphics
PS2 is the MAG, offers large scale battles and alots of customizations with classes and weapons and vehicles but the only problem is you are with and against randoms, there is no end game or anyway to truly win
BF4 aka BF3.5 from the looks of it, 32v32 is good but main problem will be if the maps are again far too big for the playercount like it was in BF3, caspain border and all 12ppl are in vehicles and no one on the ground and they have added more vehicles and also kill streak of sorts that the squad can use like using a tomhawk because a tank is ******* up you up, also vehicles got heavily nerfed in BF3 to paper since 1 RPG shot can disable your vehicle even if you are using reactive armor and helis are awful to fly so expect it yet again in BF4 where its AR/LMG4 |

But with Final Fantasy 14 being the first "PROPER" MMO for the PS3...I don't know..lets see what happens. Having played FF ARR, I have to say that it is very good. It's got a good controls layout, that said I've seen quite a few complaints on their forums about the combat system lacking depth. |

it will be around for a long time. ccp said at fanfest (i believe i wasnt too drunk to get this wrong) that subs from eve could easyly keep both games going. depending on how you look at it dust is an extention/addon to eve so as long as eve keeps going and ccp is making a profit then im sure dust will remain
also comparing all those new games to dust is wrong. they are all vastly different games. i will be playing all of them for sure but not for the same reasons i play dust. |

I don't know, destiny looks alright and many have said that it looks like borderlands. BF4 will be temporary since it won't be updating , so that might last a couple of months. What I am worried about is Black light Retribution, and the Division. |

the jury is out CCP has scheduled patches in August, September, October, and November. They have 4 patches to release 1. all racial drop suits 2.all racial weapons 3. PVE 4. Address all core gameplay Issues: hit detection, LAG, matchmaking, a proper tutorial (notice I didn't say anything about weapon balancing)
These are the things that will bring back the player base as well as help retain the shrinking player base

Lets look at the track record, shall we?
Bungie's thingy has gotten alot of hate for their bullshit marketing such as 'preorder our preorder, we're Bungie so we are good for it', trailers full of nothing but environments (HOW long did it take to learn it was a shooter?).
PS2 is a massive failure or a massive success, depending on how you look at it. Hackers run rampant across the game, glitching into the safezone HQs, aimbotting crossmap, and killing the game at its playerbase, but the game still has huge worlds and (theoretically) balanced yet non-identical sides. Either way it's been through some **** and I doubt it'll be attached to the current PC servers thanks in part to the hackers.
BF4. Two words. Electronic Arts. Many people won't buy it because of that alone, many more will be put off by whatever it is that EA does to earn it's title as the Worst Company in America, and chances are they won't add anything too major to the game over BF3 beyond the standard 'bigger, more, better, shinier', so if people didn't like BF3, they won't like BF4.
DUST has had major issues and major successes, and is made by one of the most resilient companies outside of Nintendo in the 'Won't Pack This Sh*t In' department, operating a successful MMO for years. They will constantly get support from EVE players, yet meet resistance from those asame players when merging does happen. They will attract players who wish to be part of this grand world, but scare off those who think they need to play EVE to play DUST. The constant updates will keep the game fresh, but they will also cause certain players to leave if their style gets nerfed or if they dislike the constantly changing dynamics.
All in all, all of these games have their own niche, and their own playerbase.
Destiny will get all of the Halo guys cuz Bungie, it could be a piece of dried cardboard in disk shape and it'll sell enough by Bungie being on the label to make a huge profit before anyone finds out.
PS2 will have to seperate the servers, but the constant, non-instanced world will entice FAR different players than those who play instanced FPS like CoD, DUST, BF, or MAG.
BF4 will get all the BF3 guys. If you didn't like it before you won't like it now.
DUST will get EVE players and those interested in the concept, in the SciFi aspects, and the MAG players, as well as a constant trickle of 'Oh lookit this free thing' players. |

Dust made me quit EVE, amongst a truck load of other stuff.
Whatever DUST attracts in numbers typically leave when they realise that an online FPS MMO hybrid by a non-AAA studio attempting to be a AAA studio that connot compete with a AAA studio is a bad idea, poorly conceived.
DUST is bad, okay - and with enough marketing money and just raw development $ you can make a AAA game with a AAA marketing budget.
CCP does not have either, Bungie has got access to the Activision $ and is releasing on FOUR platforms. BF4 on FIVE.
DUST is the gaming equivalent of the fat girl at the end of the night when you don't care due to intoxication. She's eager to please and is happy with ANY attention she can get. She wears all the right clothes, has got the latest perfume and jewelry - but somehow you know, you just know, that she doesn't want you for one night, she wants to tie you down and try and get you to submit to her for the rest of your life. You also know she isn't taking any protection, regardless of what she says.
Destiny and BF4 are the gaming equivalent of a high-class prostitute. It's gonna cost a lot, but OMF...G is it gonna be pretty and seduce you with the sort of refined experience reserved for gods.
Now, you can argue the case for both - but the one who plumps for the fat girl is never going to be truly happy, but the one who goes for the high-class call girl is gonna be extremely satisfied and wake up with a beaming smile and a great story to tell.
Waking up next to a fat girl hunched over a pregnancy test with crossed fingers is not how I would ever wish to wake up. |

Words defy me... And I hope for all your future partners, that this is not how you seriously think about women.
But ultimately your analogy may be pretty apt in one way. There is a reason why AAA games generally feel to me like they are lacking something... let's call it a soul. None of the gaming memories I really cherish have been created by a AAA studio (at least not by today's standard definition of the term).
Ultimately it comes down to short term satisfaction versus meaningful relationships. |

Of course not, but analogically the objectification of women is very close to the entertainment industry.
This, is a pastime, one which serves a short-term purpose under certain circumstances - and the entertainment industry know exactly how to market to us when those circumstances poke their head out.
I could list many games created by AAA studios where gaming memories are imprinted into my brain - much like awesome moments of meeting that special lady who you can't remember the name of, but remember every curve of her body.
Mowing down bad guys doing drive-bys in Vice City whilst 'I just died in your arms tonight' played over the radio...rocket jumping onto the cart in TF2 seconds before the end of the round and winning the match...getting 200 lines in Tetris on the gameboy with someone banging on the bathroom door...C4'ing a rouge heli pilot after he destroyed by jet in BF3, in mid-air...performing a reverse grab in TTT2 to get 'perfect' takedown...

Would also like to say that in a fanfest video about 4 or 5 months ago a gamer asked if dust was being ported to ps4 and the devs replied that in the future but it's not something they're working on right now, cant remember which video it was but if your patient you can check yourself. |

It's an interesting point and one that is hard to argue because in both cases you do not know if you are right.
However...
Bungie was founded in 1991, and have got decades of experience in creating games which have been very successful - I think they are worth giving the benefit of the doubt. Destiny is unlikely to be a poor game, because (considering the expenditure) if they released a poor game it could end the company. This point becomes more relevant if you scroll down.
Planetside is on PC, the platform EVE players wanted it to be released on, and you need to ask why Sony would do this. Simply speaking, they can afford to release a non-AAA game that is F2P with MT. Scroll down.
CCP usta be the underdog, the one that released a space MMO in the days when dial-up was the norm and nerds were unhappy that David Braben kept fuckin' up ELITE sequels, when all nerds wanted was zero-G dogfighting, with trading and pirating a secondary consideration.
So CCP took up the mantel and 'lo' they released EVE.
In the early days it was new and frankly, exciting, to have an online space game created by a mix of ELITE fans and Ultima Online fans/griefers. It had all of the scale and scope which an online space game should have, with the capitalistic qualities of ELITE and grief tactics of Ultima. It also had the role-play built in, because that's a big market with nerds and CCP fuckin' knew it. CCP will openly admit they designed the original logo to be as close as possible to the logo for Elite without getting sued by an Englishman.
ELITE LOGO original EVE logo
So, they were the underdog with only a scraping of staff and adoring fans. They were the guardians of online space exploration and adventure games for a generation of nerds throughout cyberspace. Then there were the dark times. Then there was the empire.
Here in the basking glory of 2013 we got a company who do not have any experience in AAA FPSMMO games releasing a game onto the market by using the funds of its other game which is substandard at best and utterly terrible at worst, comparatively speaking.
I ask you, sir "what is the point?"
What is the point in releasing a game which AT THE MOST FUNDAMENTAL LEVEL fails in the most basic function: running, aiming and shooting in a point-to-point attack/defend/cover/counter-attack open/closed environment mechanic?
Yes, this is an MMO-esque game. Sorry to say that is a cop-out argument, when the above is (or should be) the thing which a games player will spend the majority of their time doing.
Another cop-out is 'they are working hard on the game and improving it'. Great, so PM me when the game is worth playing and every-other-sucker can play it whilst everyone else is playing games which are AAA+ and actually have game mechanics worth a lick.
Biggest cop-out "it's free". So...that means I should play it and not complain, or not play it and not complain? Does making it free mean it has some sort of magical shield surrounding it, or that every player is given rose-tinted specs?
Look, I got plenty of cash and have worked hard to get it - like most people with a computer, internet access, consoles, smartphones, tablets, car(s), sat nav, digital alarm clock, plasma teevee, designer-coffee addiction, Timberland shoe collection, gym membership, revolving tie-rack, surround sound home cinema and demanding social life - there is one thing one values higher than value for money, and that's value of time.
DUST is not worth my time, and I only post here whilst vacating my bowels, or waiting for a taxi.

I believe that when the PS4 comes out people will be playing all the new games until they find their niche. Some will go but I'm pretty sure the loyal EVE players and some will still play regardless of it is ported or not (which i doubt it wont due to time investment on CCP's behalf). At least we still get the benefit of passive exp if we don't play while we wait. |
