As a GIS technician, when I look at the map tools and layout for dust, it hurts.
First off, Dust desperately needs a more visually enhanced compass. Since we are in suits, I was thinking our North, South, East, West could actually be on our HUD system. In battles orientation is something that is easily lost as you narrow your focus onto immediate threats and having to reorient yourself from that tiny minimap also poses high risks when you need or organize yourself as a team. Again, I would like our orientation to be displayed on our HUD and not the tiny corner of the minimap.
Second point, Coordinate systems are a must, there is no real substitute for this and we are limited to objectives (or ghost objectives in ambush) when it comes to describing locations. You would see a lot more proficient and organized pub matches with this alone. Even a simple alpha numeric system would be nice. For the same reason you shouldn't take directions from somebody who tells you to take a left on Del Taco and keep going until you see a big tree, we shouldn't have to describe random or relative objects to organize the group.
Thirdly, we need quicker and more detailed tac net map access. It takes about 10 seconds from the time you stop to access the map and 2 seconds to get out if someone starts shooting you. While I understand this may not be an optimization priority but we do need faster map access and the previous points should help you waste less time orienting yourself on the map. Another issue I am having is that we don't have access to large scale maps (we lack real zoom in functions), squad orders would be a lot more common place and helpful if we had more detail on tacnet.
I have also wondering about the possibility of tacnet skills, I'll probably come up with something later but I wouldn't want them to function like the old sharpshooter where everyone has to get it, I would like it to be a beneficial and niche role at the same time. |

This is a great idea. Too often, someone will need assistance from me or I get separated from my team and they ask where I am and I have to say, 'oh I'm ummm, uh, over by bravo in between that one thing and the CRU. I think.' |

+ To all of this.
Orientation with the mini map is a hassle. Sometimes I can't even see the N and with so many different node configurations you can easily forget which direction things are. We at least need E, W, and S on the mini map.
I honestly think a quick access transparent tac net map is a must, especially if they ever plan to have bigger maps. |

Don't hold your breath. There was this in January 2013, this in October 2012, and this in December, 2012.
It has not been a priority for CCP and they show no sign that it will be. Their response thus far has been...
"[REQUEST] Better direction indicators on the minimap Update: This will be put on the UI team's backlog."
in January of 2013.
Backlog, if I'm not mistaken, means acknowledged but unscheduled. |

They use a grid system when when we are to give feedback on a map, they use the alpha-numeric on the forums. I wish they would just add this onto the overview map, either all the time or as a layer.
Agreed on the HUD compass, one thing I think would be passable for now is to add ESW to the minimap. Sometimes you lose the N in the terrain or it takes a second to figure it out and that is the split second you needed to address your squad.
Also add a compass to the overview map. It seems dumb but this would aid in orbitals, it can be difficult to gain bearings going from 1st person to overview |

As someone who tries to coordinate squads and play more tactically, I agree wholeheartedly with this and forward this motion.

+1 we really need a coordinate system. The half ass gum shoe directions aren't cutting it. |

I think it'd add to immersion too if we could possible activate a visual overlay whilst in combat, so that we see gridlines on the terrain we're fighting on.
Essentially, whilst we're running and gunning, everything will have gridlines like this , and perhaps setting Rally squad orders from the overview map could highlight the relevant blocks. |

+1 Also some squad route planner with way points and a GPS tracking would be nice too... When map is open and a new threat emerges, map should close up automatically to allow quick response to the new situation. |
