This has been a problem for as long as I've been playing. The small rail and small missile turrets on tanks and Lavs can barely hit anything while the vehicle is in motion.
If the vehicle is perfectly still then the shots will be dead on. But if the driver so much as creeps forward at 1mph all shots not parallel to the direction of motion will start missing by huge amounts. These shots will often hit the vehicle I'm riding in, even when my crosshairs are well clear of the hull.
I'm a big fan of the Tribes franchise so I have a good understanding of projectile inheritance and leading targets, etc. But in this game the amount the shots are off by is in no way proportional to the speed of the vehicle from what I've observed.
I'm highly skeptical that this is working as intended. If the inaccuracy was introduced as a balance decision then I'd say it's unnecessary. The small missile and rail turrets are hardly devastating enough to warrant such a handicap.
If it's not supposed to be this way, I'd definitely have someone take a look at the coding for projectile inheritance and tweak those numbers.
I also thought this could be a network related issue but it still happens when I experience no lag at all during a match. Could it have something to do with my latency vs the latency of the driver? I have no idea but some dev feedback would be appreciated. |

It's not inaccurate you just have to lead your shots.
If it was super easy to hit stuff while moving then everyone and their mother would have proto small turrets. |

As a missile-gunner in a dropship I agree with the OP 100%.
I can understand there being a mechanic in place that effects the projectile if you are moving fast, the problem though is that currently there is no consistency to it. They seem to randomly fly out in all directions, regardless of speed or orientation. If I remember correctly, it seemed like there was a slight improvement from Chromosome to Uprising, but it could have been something unrelated. |

Could it be that there's some kind of interpolation missing?
Newtonian physics say that the vector of the gun/vehicle should affect affect the bullet vector aswell. That is an intuitive concept everyone knows very well from real world applications and thus should be easily accounted for with some practice.
It might be that the motion of the vehicle we perceive is already smoothed out while the trajectory algorythm uses jittery raw data or data that is not interpolated in the same way the vehicle movement is. |
