...and wow, it literally is for children, which is more like an introduction to FPS games. But I can see why it appeals to casual players as well. Don't get me wrong, it can still be fun. Well, it's ok, I guess. The graphics are polished and smooth, which Dust 514 needs badly after the CARBON engine meltdown. But that's the only thing good about COD in my opinion. It just seems like everybody's running around like idiots with no real teamwork and no coordinated communication (at least, text-based communication due to my deafness.) Also no real objectives other than capture the flag and bomb planting. I'm sure if I get used to COD again, I wouldn't think about it. God forbid if Destiny and other FPS games start cloning COD, much like several of the MMORPGs following in after World of Warcraft. But Dust is truly a thinking man's shooter game and that's what I love about Dust 514. So I'm happy I'm staying with Dust 514. What about you guys? |

I like this game a lot, that's why I play it.
I don't think Call of Duty has ever tried to be anything more than exactly what you described. I haven't played it since Modern Warfare 2 for that exact reason. I like that this game is at least trying to be a great and very different type of FPS game. It's got ambition! And a development model that allows it to change the game radically and flexibly over time. I'm as much a fan of this game as I am of the business model and software development philosophy this game adheres to. |

Probably gonna try all of them, except killzone and CoD. Never played a borderland-ish game but I imagine Destiny might satisfy my curiousity. I don't play many games at all anymore (though I just got my mitts on LEGEND OF LEGAIA, it's ok if you bow in wonder, I understand completely) but my friends play COD pretty often. Whenever I play with them I just like to play Zombies, because PvE is fun with friends, it's about as close to a proven fact as it gets.
These "things" that FoxFour hinted at in his latest blog better be Drones, though I wouldn't be surprised if it's not. Having PvE is THE way to let people just drop in, grab a few games, drink some brews and not ******* worry about having to go against the all star wonder crew every damn game. So long as people can still have their parties crashed, and the drones scale well so that weak easy mindless drones are up towards high sec and then they get tougher going downward, becoming much stronger in Low Sec and being tied into PC
Do NOT....do NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT make PvE strictly for Corps. Let corps benefit from their own added things, definitely. Lock it into corps? Don't you freaking dare. If you don't mess up drones, that's going to go SO FREAKING FAR in helping retain players and get new players into this game.
Like it or not, PvE is popular, and can be fun. It's generally relaxing, though being able to turn it up a notch is definitely needed. Not everyone wants to play casually, not everyone wants to play seriously. Live with it |

I've also recently spent some time with CoD, and IMO it's no less tactical than Dust 514 but IS much more polished. Sure, you can spend your time overanalyzing the simplistic gameplay of Dust 514 to your heart's content, but there isn't anything inherently more tactical about the gameplay.
Both are arcade shooters with very little strategy involved. |

What? I'm sorry, but I must disagree. Dust 514 has a lot more deep strategy than COD do. Some people have told me it took some of them 20 minutes to a few days to learn how to play Dust. Even after 6 months, there's still a lot more for me to study about the game and some of the skills and equipments are still difficult to figure out, which is why I and most people come to the forum to discuss about it. You don't do that on COD. A perk gives a very brief instruction in a sentence of how it works. Piece of cake. Not so on Dust 514 and it encourages people to get together to have many profound discussions. |

COD graphics are the one of the things it doesn't do right. Same graphics from a modified ID Tech 2 engine from 2004? Lol. Even COD Ghosts uses it. Battlefield 4 runs 1080P 60FPS on PS4, so does Ghosts but Ghosts stuck to the same graphics, and more importantly, the same Modern Warfare gameplay. |

First off...if borderlands 3 has 16 vs 16 im gone. As far as titan fall goes have fun while bill gates watches you play over dinner.
What dust sacrifices in graphics it kills if not murders in huge maps, tons of elevation changes and well designed fighting areas. Learning what each skill means is terribly left unstated. I played killzone 3 and it was all incredibly small maps with mostly just hallways.

I don't agree with that assessment of the game, except for the its not polished part. :)
I'm not exactly sure what the actual definition of arcade shooter is, but with what I personally interpret that phrase to mean: I don't think Dust 514 is an arcade shooter.
I think they're about as similar to each other as Regular (American) Football and Arena Football. They're both Football (Shooters), but they're clearly very different games. Regular Football (Dust) is a lower scoring ground war game that requires depth of talent, and a diversity of highly specialized roles to make up a great team. Arena Football (COD) is a high scoring close quarters game that requires a depth of talent, in a one specialized role in order to make a great team.
In COD you need 16 guys that are all really great at working together, shooting guns, creating chaos individually, and doing everything faster than the opponent.
In Dust514 you need 16 guys that are all really great at working together, specializing in skills completely different from one another, limiting chaos as a collective, and adapting to and exploiting the skillset of their opponents.
I think both games have ample opportunity for strategy, but to say they're similar is missing the forest for the trees. |

Ok Ive gotta chime in since I always see COD broken down to this basic assumption of "durr hurr you run and shoot the guys fast" and really that only holds true if you are playing TDM or FFA with all perks and killstreaks enabled Im no fanboy buy I do recognize why COD has such a wide playerbase and its because they offer something for everyone You want PVE? Go play some zombies You want run and gun with some danger? TDM You want objective based gameplay? CTF, Sabotage, Search and Destroy, Domination You want to play it more old school? Classic versions of the above gameplay modes You think the ideas of perks, killstreaks, weapon attachments are asinine and everyone should die from a single bullet to the torso and real men dont need HUDs? Hardcore versions of the above game modes
And thats leaving out a fitting and growth system that is deep enough to tweak however you want but not locked behind a time barrier, and a splash of appearance customization
Ugh, that made me sound like a fanboy, but the point remains that it offers up a variety of choices so you can pick and choose what suits you and is deeper than run and gun and much deeper than what dust currently is |
