There was a new Merc who needed a few basic tips just to help him stay alive longer than 60 seconds here was my advice:
1. Try to run with a squad as this will increase the probability of them calling out enemies and Orbitals 2. If you do solo, scout it out and infiltrate or catch stragglers by surprise you could also snipe or hold down a position .DO not try running for objectives if your a one man team or you might just be a lead punching bag or an item on the Road Kill menu. 3. USE cover even if you think your Tactical Duvall is the end all to all opposers, chances are there is some one not in your sight gunning for you. 4. Its OK to run away. 5. Practice and use your sidearm. 6 Practice and use grenades 7. Watch for chokes points, this means that you don't run in the same corridors, hallways, areas where the last 7 or 8 blues just died because the enemy is choking you guys through the sam openings. 8. Have short term goals for example=10 kills with less than 6 deaths when you reach this, just back off and support, or hold down an area. 9.There is no such thing as Rambo..wait you might not get that reference..hmm ,you aren't going kill everyone the first 5 minutes of a game, let them come to you.
Just a few to help ya out Rookie
Just a humble Merc here Vets so feel free to pass on any useful advice for the new clone behind you.

Agreed, nice and simple.
Nothing wrong with living to fight another day either, huge factor IMO considering regen and whatnot. Very easy to forget if you're just expecting to fight/kill the first guy you engage. |

There never seems to be that much of an opportunity to run away, generally - if you run and don't have alot of twists and turns, they generally pursue and shoot you in the back.
Unless you summon the free LAV (right on the direction pad, for those unaware) and keep it nearby. Done the car run a few times myself - then driven back and even run over people who decided to stay out in the open in case I came back (presumably without a LAV, as if I'd do that for some reason) |

Also grenades are your extra team mates.
Unless an enemy sees it early enough to charge past it (rare), when you throw a grenade in one entrance way, it buys you a few seconds to scan a second entrance way without fear of being shot and potentially dash down it or whatever. No one advances on the little red bouncy icon on the floor. A thrown grenade is a kind of supressive fire you do while you're doing something else.
Further if someone is behind an object and wont kiss your HMG, throwing a grenade on one side then running around the other causes a pincer movement - grenades are your extra team mates.
It's really worth getting the first stage of grenedier, so you can have three grenades and a selection of them (AV ones and my fave, Flux grenades (wow do they rip the shield off a LAV! Or even a HAV sometimes!)) |

I would normall say this is true, but on rare occasion (like in a mercenary match) they might actually farm a clone animation unit so as to win. At other times repeated turning up at a CRU as a heavy can crack open a wedge in the enemies lines. It's worth keeping the former in mind, though. |

Its also not bad to get into the habit of Immediately switching to your sidearm after you empty your mag for your primary, I can't tell you how many times I killed and got killed because one of us forgot this simple tactic. |

Look for high ground. If someone is getting shot, they always think to look around before they look up, giving you a little more time to finish them off. Be warned, while you do get a tactical advantage, being high up usually leaves you with no cover, and makles you easier to see (especially using laser waepons). If you are spotted up high, try crouching to reduce the size of the area your enemy can hit. |

In addendum, in most cases, high ground is good because you can back up and reduce or eliminate the bullets smacking you in the face. |

learning how not to die is more important then getting the kill.
when starting out its best to go for the assist rather then the kill, find friedlys who are fighting and back them up for the assist (and sometimes kill)
2 militia guys shooting at a proto suit will give him a bad day if hes alone/ 3 will make him either stop using proto or lose alot of ISK.

Remember to try to pay attention to the kill feed. Knowing what the enemy is using will allow you to prepare to face that weapon. For example, if you see a few shotgun kills pop up then you will know to be aware of people trying to engage you at close range. |

Ran into someone the other day who, twice, just stood still and hammered me while I strafed and fired on them (both of us with GEK's). Quite annoying - want to know their characters skill levels, at that point. |

Here are a few more tips to add since the new patch:
10) Always expect TANKS, I've learned to make a point of looking around all the time, listening for tanks and having a few fits to scare them off if not destroy them. Logi fits with Remotes, Nanos and Strong AV grenades have proved helpful. 12) If you join a random squad, keep your funny thoughts, raging rants, and play by play to yourself. Just communicate field details. Chances are they won't kick you after match and you'll do better with squad mates who appreciate a good "green"berry. 13) If you run solo, Defend! Defend! Defend! Pick an objective and DIG in. You will die less, be a contributing factor to holding points, aaand might win you some respect from rivals when they find it harder to take your turf. 14) Up inks are gooood. Get a fit with a basic so that when you DO die, and you wil, you will have a better chance of reclaiming the Turf mentioned before hand. 15) SWALLOW your pride. Think LONG term, don't get angry and jut throw your clone at tank spammers and proto squads. You want to Make isk and save up for better gear so that eventually you stop swallowing and start STUFFING your foot down reds throats. (Granted, I hate swallowing mine but after loosing several Millions I've had to make my peace). Think of it this way, "The other guys isn't better he's just getting the best of me..this time."

#2. look both ways befor you cross the road. and flanking an objective can let you take a clone pod from behind then shoot a person or two in the back. never shoot first then hack cause they can spawn in on you and gib you and retake it.
