How much better would it be if DUST walked a little away from its FPS side and more towards it MMO side? Imagine a series of open worlds (not majorly big but still) that you could explore with corp mates. Capsuleers drop you on a planet, you put on a nice looking suit before dropping, making the suit more like a EVE ship. You can explore the district in open world, clear out drone infestations, gather materials, set up outposts and of course have huge open world running wars that span whole huge districts, not set go in a game, fire bullets, make cash, like you do now but actual exploration, maybe finding that crucial ore deposit that makes millions for capsuleers. Oh and you can then incorparate loyalty points into this, clearing your nearby district of nasty space pirates has never been so rewarding :) |

It's already pretty MMO, RPG and FPS. The grind for SPs, the upgrading gear, corporations and so on are very key MMO elements. I think they're finding a great balance between the three types - I've never been much of a fan of FPS in general but with the meta-game being slowly introduced and having battles 'mean' something, it's much more exciting. |

If I wanted FPS removed I'd go play Defiance... oh wait we all know how that game turned out. Almost the entire studio was fired. http://www.gamespot.com/news/layoffs-at-defiance-dev-report-6408548 |

The FPS aspect makes sense with how corporations vie for control. The MMORPG feel you describe kind of sounds like as if EVE had an expansion of new worlds with none being conquered with colonists going on individual planets to explore them and ultimately sell knowledge or make money off the spoils. |

So you want PvE? This seems like another PvE thread, I am all for PvE but I doubt anything like this will be released within the next 5 to 10 years. |

I think there should be ways to play Dust that don't involve shooting everything on sight, like there is in EVE. Mining, exploration, manufacturing, etc. Dust should be equal parts FPS and RPG. |

I gather that OP is less upset by the "shooting from a first-person perspective" aspect, and more by the discrete matches. I've had a similar feeling. I sincerely hope it gets to that point, because what's the point of being in New Eden if you're forced to fight fair? |

I do like the FPS but as one of you said I just don't get that cutthroat feel of New Eden, its just a little generic. By too FPS I mean DUST is attempting and MMORPGFPS but has only really achieved the last bit. Suits are really rather exchangable, matches don't really have much importance in the PVE world, look at one trailer for DUST you have dropships aproaching an area in a very RPG aspect to achieve a greater role. You wouldn't get that in DUST generic FPS atm. Also wheres the risk of New Eden. Thats what brought me to this game. Just think. You scour planets, in high sec theres maybe a lot of buildings not much to findand a lot of police but as you get lower down sec status until null secs where the gloves are off, no buildings to be seen. Stealth attacks on player made compounds. Walking into a valley infested with rogue drones. And an idea. Should 24 players be within a 1mile radius in low sec DUST switches automatically to a match in the radius ensuring everchanging maps but not in null sec, in null sec there are no boundaries full stop, thats where it goes down on the big scale. Really I just want games to mean something. After time and battles suits become increasing worn and torn, pieces missing, mismatched repairs marking your proud victories. |
