Booby Tuesdays wrote:I was never able to make money until I started following the Risk/Reward strategy. As a logi, I don't make anywhere near as much cheddar as an assault or pilot does. Rode with a tanker the other day and made over 500k. Compare that to my typical 160 - 240k as a logi, going 4/1 and 10/3. Maybe if we logi's actually got a payout based on how much ISK we have saved our team... Then I could be more frivolous with my fits in pub matches. Until then, I'll usually save the big guns for FW and PC. And I am a logi that doesn't work for R&D, so I don't go 4:1 or 10:3. My k:d =0.57 and I started the respec with 177 mil isk. I now have 191mil isk.
I play the fight for profit game because I suck at the gun game.
My delusional addiction to flying dropships on weekends after the sp cap is what hurts me the most. I don't run proto suits but I do run some complex mods and weapons while squaring with the corp. solo pubs I run all blue gear or standard with some advanced.
I pay a lot more attention to my bankroll mgt than my KDR. I am a poker player. |

Telleth wrote:It's difficult to run a risk vs reward idea with my tanks. If I only called in tanks until I couldn't recoup the losses from 1 match, I'd never call one out. It turns into a gamble on how many matches I can go without seeing proto AV or a well coordinated team.
If I wanted best risk for reward I would (and do) run starter fits for a few rounds to cover a tank or two, then use them till they blow. Rinse, repeat. Yeah, okay, I can totally understand tankers running proto but the difference is that a tank stands a chance of surviving a match whereas a proto suit will likely die at least a couple of times (unless they're really good or the enemy is really bad. |

Django Quik wrote:The latest PC dev blog clearly shows that very few people actually care about losing isk - many teams apparently go deeply negative on isk in efforts to win a PC match.
I see people in every single pub game running proto suits with proto weapons dying 5 or more times - this would cost them hundreds of thousands of isk a match.
One of the main reasons is that CCP flooded the market with isk when they liquidated our assets months ago but this was months ago and you'd think this would all be drying up by now...
Personally I only run advanced gear in pub games and pretty much always make a profit, earning around 15-20 million isk over the past month.
So my question is: who else out there actually keeps an eye on their profit/loss ratio when playing? It could be ppl like me that have played this game since January and have made a lot of isk. I have never run proto gear but the last week ive been running it over half the time to bump up my KD a little. Some ppl have saved and saved just so we could run it in the future. I still have 81 million isk and if I drop below 50 million ill stop for a month and build back some flow bro. |

Risk reward definatly exists, even if people go all out in PC matches, that is because they conserve in pub matches, or are subsitized.
People tend to have more isk if they are smart and or good, less so if not. |

As a Logi I have four goals and I change the order of importance of them depending on how I feel and whether I'm squadded up.
- First -- I always try to turn a profit. I enjoy a little role-playing and hey, we're mercenaries!
- Then, if I'm in a squad, I try to help the other guys do the best they can, whatever they are going for in the game.
- If I'm not in a squad I try to help the team win if it can. ( sometimes the squad is really trying to win the game, so this is the same as the second goal )
- If it looks like my team isn't up to winning I try to support it as best I can while minimizing my losses.
In pub games I almost never use higher tier suits. I turn a profit in maybe 90% of my games. I don't know if that's good, but my bank balance keeps going up! I try to balance what I spend against the good I can do in particular battles.
I've thought about pulling out my prototype suits in pub matches but except to try out a fit once in a while I never do it. The games aren't more fun for me when I do so why spend the ISK? |

I used the triple SP hullabalooza to finally spec into proto caldari assault, and so far I am under-flipping-whelmed. I usually start a match, get a few kills/hacks or so, die, then feel I need to switch back to good old "001 34k NADES", die 3 more times or so, and hopefully break even. I'll be able to fit it (the proto suit) with complex extenders in a couple of days, and maybe then I'll feel a bit more beastly, but still, I cant help feeling the SP would have been better spent on hacking 4, and AR pro 4. Oh, to the original question, I do try to play risk/reward. But I'm 40million ISK down from the initial uprising asset liquidation. 1000 complex shield energisers pre-nerf? knob. |

My most common suit costs me 10k. At that rate I can die 30 times in a match or more and still make a profit. Needless to say, I'm rich as hell. |
