The latest PC dev blog clearly shows that very few people actually care about losing isk - many teams apparently go deeply negative on isk in efforts to win a PC match.
I see people in every single pub game running proto suits with proto weapons dying 5 or more times - this would cost them hundreds of thousands of isk a match.
One of the main reasons is that CCP flooded the market with isk when they liquidated our assets months ago but this was months ago and you'd think this would all be drying up by now...
Personally I only run advanced gear in pub games and pretty much always make a profit, earning around 15-20 million isk over the past month.
So my question is: who else out there actually keeps an eye on their profit/loss ratio when playing? |

I make money in the long run, and its funner running in proto gear, not for pubstomping but because I feel like I am running a complete suit, not a half assed suit. For example the Amarr suit, the only reason why that suit is so crappy at basic and advanced is because of the side arm at proto level, but it has none at basic or advanced. |

Well, the numbers can lie. Some districts aren't attacked often, and the amount of money filtered into the 1 battle a week that some districts get warrant the use of all proto gear all the time. If they lose the district, they lose the 8 to 10 million isk a day. If the district was last attacked 5 days ago, that would mean that players could spend up to 50 million combined before they start going negative as a corp.
People also look towards the future and see the potential gain if they hold this one district until it stops getting attacked and scaring people off from attacking for a long time it could go 20+ days without being attacked. That is a lot of isk for the corp.
Also, people farm isk all day so they can afford their shiny suit to show off to the enemies that matter. The enemies that are trying to take their "home". In 4 to 5 games, I can easily make the cost of my dropsuits lost in a PC battle. And still have a net gain of isk for the day.
If you start limiting the isk somewhere before a PC battle, the risk might start to be felt. But until either PC battles get too expensive to bring the biggest toys, people will continue to use the best gear.
I hope they allow us the power to build our own MCCs and they cost over a billion isk for a super nice one. Then people might start thinking twice before bringing those into battle over the standard cheap MCC. |

i have 139mil on this char and more on others.. still havent spent all from when they sold our salvage. if ppl are in proto then maybe you should be in it yourself. that's like going to a battlefield/cod match and telling them to remove all their scopes and grips because you dont yet have one |

I run proto suits because the number of slots allows me to make more creative builds, the number slots you lose going from proto to adv sucks. They really need to normalize the number of slots on each suit... i mean what happens when we get the next tier of suits... will cal logis have like 7 highs and 5 lows?
It would also help pubstomping by reducing the std - pro power gap and would also help with people who have a certain type of build they would love to have an adv version of but can't because they are so slot limited on those suits vs. proto.
Also... I run all proto all the time... and I generally stay right around 100 million isk... sometimes higher sometimes lower but I generally break even or go positive week to week, depends on how many PC games I play. |

I don't think you read the OP, did you?
I like to keep a check in what I lose in a match vs what I win or destroy. But I can't use Proto anything yet, so losing money during a match is kinda hard really. |

the problem isn't that we don't play the risk versus loses game, it's that we don't have enough to spend our isk on to do that.
this is how I look at it.
I play 150 games a week or so. at the end of this period of time I will likely have 65 games with zero deaths, and 60 or so games with 1 death.
my fit currently weighs in at 96k.
giving me a net profit of about 20 mil, let's say the rest of my games are loses I still will likely break out even in the end.
give us the gear to spend millions of isk on those fits, and you'll see people start to go broke. |

who said anything about removing anything or telling anyone to not use something.. he asked if anyone else cares about thier profit margins, or do you just burn holes through your liquidated assets isk and corp isk.
To OP, I always try to make sure to run a profitable game. even if it is only a 10k profit, If I see myself about to redline my cost vs profit I go with 100% free suits for rest of game. As for PC , they make so much money when not being attacked and having lots of members funding PC that they can proto all day in PC without a sweat |

Very few members generally see any of the isk generated from clone sales in PC... just fyi.
For most, participating in PC puts you at a net loss most games... I know it does for me. |

I don't mean the pub stomping only guys, the guys who actually do the battling for PC. I know I wouldn't be doing any of the battling if I didn't egt a piece of the action. As far as I knew most corps funded thier A-teams for corporate wars.
If your not getting a slice of the pie from your PC matches( or atleast corp donations for PC matches), why do you even do it? |

The payout at the end of the game covers most of the loss, I make up the rest of it through profit from pub matches.
This game isn't about hoarding isk, its about having fun. PC matches are the most action packed and memorable games i'll probably ever have from Dust.

I understand the fun part, which is why we should be able to have non PC corp battles. Just like in Eve, I don't move to null sec and fight for a huge alliance and not expect funds for my losses in thier efforts and the ability to reap rewards from what I help hold. It just seems wrong in a New Eden atmosphere to me lol

It'd be really interesting to see how people played if everyone's isk was reset to zero. You'd have to run a few games in free stuff just to afford some decent gear and then you'd really have to watch your PLs to stay playing proto gear. |

Not but seriously, personally I hardly ever run proto gear in pubs. I try to go as ISK positive as possible. I use Proto gear in PC games. Good games I still make a profit, but bad games I go in the red.... it happens.
Some people like running proto stuff all the time... i guess that's their fun. Can't knock them for playing the way they have fun. |

I was never able to make money until I started following the Risk/Reward strategy. As a logi, I don't make anywhere near as much cheddar as an assault or pilot does. Rode with a tanker the other day and made over 500k. Compare that to my typical 160 - 240k as a logi, going 4/1 and 10/3. Maybe if we logi's actually got a payout based on how much ISK we have saved our team... Then I could be more frivolous with my fits in pub matches. Until then, I'll usually save the big guns for FW and PC. |

It's difficult to run a risk vs reward idea with my tanks. If I only called in tanks until I couldn't recoup the losses from 1 match, I'd never call one out. It turns into a gamble on how many matches I can go without seeing proto AV or a well coordinated team.
If I wanted best risk for reward I would (and do) run starter fits for a few rounds to cover a tank or two, then use them till they blow. Rinse, repeat. |
