Now I have a few ideas but i want to hear your guy's opinion. No offense ccp but when you added the eve population to the game population tracker in dust it makes me think that your hiding the decreasing game population. Which since its release has dropped by 4000 players at one time. During the first week after May 14 there was on average just under 8000 ,before the 1.3 update it was on average 4000. So my question is how do you guys think the game can be improved to attract new players. |

for all intents and purposes we're still in beta, CCP just "released" Dust to get Sony off their backs.
I'd say we're safely out of Beta once some sort of PVE content is released plus the Gladiator Match Mode.
The Game will be complete once ISK can flow between the two games and all Regions are open for PC. |

I think what you are saying invite good players to teach the new ones? That actually may be a good idea if there can be some title set on good players to teach new players how to play.
That's how i learned how to play dust from xxgeneral xxshots. He taught how to play the game successfully and brought my k/d up by a full point currently at a 2.06. |

Player count has been higher due to the 3x weekend, but not a lot. Concurrent player count is topping out at about 6k instead of 4k. |

My apologies Knight. After reading the thread title I thought this was going to be some joke thread about promiscuous sex.
Player retention is just as important and that would be improved with better matchmaking. CCP already took the first step towards that but it still needs serious improvement. Happy players makes for good press and getting others they know into the game.. |

Monthly updates and patches that address some player feedback concerns and some performance issues. Small incremental patches and new shinnies to play with. I would love to see them start dropping new modules in loot before they are on the market as an incentive for players to play. If a new suit is coming out next month then it should start showing up in loot a couple of weeks in advance. This would create some content and get people on the forums to brag or ask questions.
I don't think they should warn us or tell us what the loot will be and then they can judge the performance of the item based on the loot trials and have a baseline to pre-balance the item with before full release to the market. This would feed the need for content, forum visits and would also help retain people who are bored. These items should be all tiers and should require no skills. Have them draw the correct CPU/PG but require no skills. No skill "prototype" items make mercs feel like we have something special.
CONSTANT dev feedback on weapon balance. I don't want set in stone numbers but more info and graphs on purchases, killboards and overall uses. Just more balance talk. I think that the balances issue is a topic that can easily be discussed and not cause too much forum rage. Just talk. Not promises, soons or any other in development ideas. Just constant talk, even if it is just a one word post.
I think these two things will pull in players and help hold them. Online player numbers are going to fluctuate wildly for a while because of real life stuff and new games. In a year or so I would predict that the player base will have grown and stabilized. To a point where balancing and matchmaking is much better.
The point is that we need constant feedback from devs to show new players that CCP does listen and monthly updates that make the game feel fresh and new more often. A release of gear like in 1.2 is perfect. Enough to feed the forums but not much more than they can balance in about 3 weeks. |

Player driven advertising; going onto gaming forums and introducing players to the game. There are plenty of YouTube videos that provide a variety of different perspectives on the game and what it can offer.
We need some player driven tournaments, too, that we can broadcast on Twitch. Find some synergy with Eve in doing this and show what the game is capable of even at this Quasi-Beta-Sorta-Not-Beta Stage.
More niche sites like http://dustreports.com/. Games, ultimately, are community driven and CCP has always encouraged a very, very flexible level of freedom with its players. Hopefully, CCP will be giving more utilities to Dusters that will allow for this - the integration between Eve and Dust is a delicate balance and they're going to take it slow but it is still something that we can highlight to other players.
The learning curve is pretty steep. DUST University isn't bad with teaching newbs but I think they may have a logistics problem due the sheer number of players that have joined it. We need other corps that could help their load - teachers who would be willing to give classes in the game, tips and advice. More community videos explaining the mechanics of the game.
Fix the LAV issue - I don't have an answer at the moment but I brought a friend in from last night and after running a couple of matches with him where he was splattered a few times, he quickly grew frustrated as he wasn't being given the chance to adapt quickly enough to the feel of the game nor defend himself properly. I encouraged him to get AV grenades asap. Hopefully he sticks with it.
Help players realize this isn't a typical FPS and comes close to being an MMO. Help them realize the scope of the universe they're becoming a part of.
For the love of everything good, we need some kind of marketplace that we can sell salvage gear in, trade with players and even some sort of resources that can move between Eve and Dust via PC. Maybe we can take barren worlds where districts can be some sort of mining zone, providing resources that Eve players need. The corps passively mine a finite amount of resources from these districts before they are converted into production zones, warehouses, cloning stations or military industrial complexes that produce weapons that can in turn be sold to Dusters and Pilots.
I think being active on social forums/blogs is a good start if anything; I've come across some Eve-focused blogs that don't look fondly on Dust but it seems me that some of these views are coming from a place of inexperience, as they don't really seem to have played the game.
More utilities for corporations - maybe one corporation simply wants to be the financial backer of another corporation who wants to be the soldiers on the ground. There should be systems in place that allows them to easily share districts and split the profits without too much middle manning.
All in all; more content, more battles, more Eve style shenanigans that will give us stories to tell, clones to kill and planets to conquer in the name of the Empress. Er, I mean, in the name of Isk and War. Yeah, that's it. |
