I pitched this idea over a year ago, but people don't like the concept of getting melee'd to death. A lot of people already hated the nova knives.

I am all for this idea. I feel it should take a light weapon slot and essentially be like the nova knives except with just one blade, and more range. This is very doable, and would finally make a somewhat even fight between scouts and heavies instead of a "paper, rock scissors"/instant lose scenario for scouts that it is now. I

'm positive heavies will hate this idea because it means more challenging fights which heavies by nature can't stand - hence the reason they love the role of high HP + instant kill weapons.

 Suck it heavies.

That's stupid, why would you just assume something like that? Like for real, why just fly off the handle with so many inane assumptions?

The nova knives are basically what he's talking about, except they charge faster, hit twice and probably do more DPS than a sword would. All you would have to do is exactly what you do for knifers already. Casually walk backward and keep firing as they desperately and pathetically try to cut you.

You must not understand a joke.. It would be nerfed just for being much cooler than anything else currently in the game. ARs will get jelly and ask for it to be nerfed because it's so damn cool.

I'd be all for a Nova Gladius, light weapon, increased charge time, range and damage from the Nova Knives.

However, I'd also like the ability to use them without charging them (though at the cost of damage potential).

I also want to know why I'm not stabbing at people when I melee with knives up, why must I always do the scissors lunge?

 Let me just shank people.

 Please?

It makes more sense, considering the dropsuit is power armor. You'd want to stab vital spots since it would give you the most damage for the energy used. Slicing an armored foe with a dagger is kind of meh, but shanking would require more realistic animations and attention to physics.

Yeah, and we could bring in nova shields, and get some nav bows and nova arrows, and bring in nova horses for everyone to ride around on. Of course, with the horses, we'll need some nova spears.

 ...

Seriously, this is a futuristic shooter. Knives (or small cutting tools, however based) willl always have a place on the battlefield. Swords are a step backwards. If you want a first person sword game, go play Skyrim (Seriously, if you haven't played it, do it. It's awesome).

Tired of seeing all these "request nova (insert ancient weapon here)" threads.

If you want to do that with your heavy, I'd suggest a big ass lance. More durable and a better point. Little turning capability while boosting (you guys are used to that
) but enough power to show those damn LLAVs who's boss. |

Honestly, I'm wondering why CCP didn't give us the lounge feature for charged knives and instead decided to give it to the melee. /mindboggled

Swords sound like something we might get anyways considering that we have yet to see the rest of the racial variants of the knives.

Amarr: Looks like a gladiator's short sword from the Roman era.
Minmatar: Looks like a piece of metal with duck tape for a handle.
 Gallente: Klingon hook knife anyone?

I've tried both methods and either way I get the scissors lunge.

 I haven't seen a shank/stab animation in Dust ever.

We've got a jab animation (melee with a Swarm Launcher up, you'll see it), I don't see why that couldn't be repurposed into a stab animation.

Lemme stick a shiv in that snipers ribs and leave him twiching, please CCP, I'm imploring you.

Maybe some kind of single shot, long reload plasma blaster built into it as well. Extremely short range, designed to obliterate impaled enemies that somehow haven't died.
