Like title says. Sometimes snipers can't cover all views. spotters stay close to snipers and point targets for them.
*you weren't pointing targets. you were bored, and decided to jump up and down next to snipers making the THEM targets*
I was trying to get a better view! Any way what do I get for my help? hate mail!
*You don't say?! *
I was just as shocked. One of them read "U suck". Now does he mean I suck at spotting or as a player?

i'm not sure if you are a sniper asking for quality spotters or if you want to spot for snipers. your post is not clear as you are speaking for both sides.
if you want a spotter, pay them ISK so you can get kills and WP while they play "i spy"
if you want to spot, then be sure you are more stealthy than the sniper. if you drawn more attention to the sniper than they would have without you, you are not helping. |

It's not like windage, moving targets (from a time to target perspective) or bullet drop are issues, so wouldn't two snipers with headsets be more effective? |

Finding the right spot as a sniper is a little bit of an art because all the good spots are known so you have to position yourself in accordance with the battle rather than always going at the same obvious spot. This being said, It always amazes me when I see another sniper come right next to me and starts spamming his rifle without killing much and therefore making my cover known. I am not sure if it is because they are new and try to learn or if it is just a lack of understanding of the ingr+Źdients that make you obvious to the ennemy. Regardless, please stop following other snipers, it's just stupid. A spotter is one of the worst ideas I heard. |

I really wish there was a better way for squad members to point targets for me.
I usually get the following useful info
- he's in the hills
- he's south..ish....maybe east...
- i'm being shot by a sniper, kill him
- I think he might be on a building
- **** i'm being shot by a sniper
- seriously he's in the redline.
trust me all useful info, I mean it helps to alert me that there is a sniper somewhere..... |

See, most people that call out snipers have been here on DUST for a very long time. They think that a Sniper can just survey across the field and be a lookout, a spotter, or scout. But they don't understand the changes to Uprising. That we are blind. We can only see an enemy if they are within 200m (1.0 it was 100, 1.1 made it 100m on a flat plane). If you zoom in you can see up to 500m. But that is it, to zoom in on someone you have to know they are there before they get there... So you need a spotter. But this "spotter" can't be like a real-life sniper's spotter. Being next to them is dumber than putting your hand on a lit stove.
Spotting for a sniper will be an incidental thing. If you can see them (and they're within 500m) then I can see them. But if you can't see them then neither can I.
Also bullets leave contrails... The lower tier your rifle the longer that contrail persists. If you and your derpy little mlt sniper rifle come anywhere near me you are blowing my cover. unless you have a Caldari suit with 4 complex damage mods you're either being less than worthless, or just trying to steal kills. |

IEvery sniper I've ever gotten close to and executed probably would have had a much greater chance of living if they had a stealthy spotter close by who was scanning a wider area for them. A lot of times I've approached snipers within 50 - 60 degrees of their line of sight.... (many times I've also just come up behind them)
Sure, he'll see me....
Almost there.... maybe he won't see me?
Really?!? he let me get behind him and I can line up a headshot with a scrambler pistol???
Okay. Bye-bye.... |

no need for a spotter just look in that direction, know where the battle is, know all the good spots. the last one takes time or following other snipers |

This is perfect example of a misunderstanding of the sniping job.
Squad leader = mafia don Sniper = hit man
Mafia don orders a hit on someone. Sniper carries out the hit. It is pretty much that simple. Otherwise a sniper shouldn't need a sniper because they can see targets that are in any teammate's line of sight. |

I have done that before with my Sniper Tank. I'd see a sniper where I want to be, sneak up over to him, call my tank.. And he was just oblivious until dead. I wish I could have heard him when the tank landed on his head. |

LOL. Hey I thought that was cool that you did that. I would have gotten the notion that you're helping after a while. People can be ignorant jerks. I mean, you're playing a game as a team but want to be Han Solo about stuff? Can't you notice when a teammate/squadmate is trying to help you? No one merc is the hero. Get over yourself. I hate that. |

I love people being 'helpful'.
Like when i've run almost up to the enemies redline, keeping out of sight, and some blue blasts up behind me in an LAV and starts pushing, blowing the horn. NO, I don't want to get in your clown car. F off.
Or a random blue runs up and stand next to me on my perch and starts popping off with a swarm launcher. Yeah I iz smart.
Best one recently was a blue tank decided to park next to me, blocking my sight. Of course the enemy team instantly called in an orbital to get him
So keep up the good work and keep 'helping'. Thanks blues. |

Very much. I regret skilling into active scanner on my shotty scout.
A few games later I was using a basic scout suit with militia dampeners in it. The enemy knew where I was, they tried to scan me about 5 times, each time I received a nice little popup telling me 'scan attempt foiled' or something along those lines.
For the record I haven't found a single scout with it, and that was my original aim. A rather hopeless novelty item at present. |
