Hey! Would you like to craft an incredibly intelligent argument for a game you love? Would that argument be a big part of making the game better and balanced? Well don't do it for CCP! They'll see it and forget it.

Surely we stand in the presence of one who transcends time itself... Honestly, this wasn't my expected response. I wanted marching in the streets. But the revelation of a time traveler in our mists is pretty cool too. |

I don't have time travelling skillz. |

Crash Monster wrote: Honestly, I'm not getting any bonuses from anything this release... the scout has not seen a lot of love lately either. I don't really think subjecting everyone to my complaints day in and day out is the way to handle the situation. I know it seems like we're just complaining because we are upset children. Well us being upset children is mostly true. Never mind that. The problem for me, and I maybe for the rest, is we made a reasonable argument based much discussion as well as providing mathematical proof of the issue.
We had been told on multiple occasions that this was an important issue to CCP and that the work we had done had been forwarded to the DEVS. Here's a link were I gathered some other lip service that we have received.
It's upsetting because I invested into this and was given false expectations. Its upsetting because I thought I was playing the game, not whining, not spamming, just showing support to the balance issue. Now that I know that doesn't work, why not try the whining and the spamming? |

Crash Monster wrote:What makes you think the devs are not aware of our opinions on this matter? That's the frustrating part. If you follow the link provided before you'll see that the devs are aware. Are interested in resolving it but the don' t provide any information, when they did it was by accident.
Crash Monster wrote:There are a lot of conflicting opinions on any particular issue. If CCP does not choose your opinion for implementation refer to your first point above. Yes, it is mostly true... and no, I don't mean to be directing that specifically at you. It's all over the forums every day. I like this, it got my brain goop moving. If I think my opinion is wrong and another option could be a better option, why would I stand behind my original opinion? On top of that we were told the modules in 1.2 were going to help solve the issue at hand (again see the post I linked above.) Since those modules really didn't solve the issue maybe I can intuit there is no issue. But then why was I told it was going to solve? Did the solve an issue I didn't know I had? Oh god! I'M TOO DEEP! |

That thread gave them mathematical proof. Math isn't about opinions, this is fact, armor tanking is worse than shield tanking, no other way to put it.
That's another good point, I should say so cause I'm your alt. It wasn't based on experiences or discrepancies in game design theory. It was mostly just math. |

Crash Monster wrote:Spreadsheet nerds shouldn't design games. Ha Ha. I guess I agree? However when explaining the issue math is the only constant. We don't have the capability to draw a sample of players, test them on their experiences and then provide that as evidence.
The best part of your comment is that according to you the forum is filled with whining children but those who don't whine but use logic to craft arguments are also wrong.
I think you just don't like people.

As well as that... we all have the windmills that we tilt against. Seriously though, seing as you are trying to counter my nonsense with reality, you will not find any issue of substance that seems to get a widespread consensus across the user base. I find it hard to imagine CCP picking sides instead of building the game they want and keeping an eye our for things they didn't notice (after the fact). Listening is not -- tell us how we should build the game we've got in our heads. Listening is, hey, we hear you, we made a big mistake, or a little one, and now we'll fix it. In this case, we're getting drops for things. Some will suit particular races and roles. This is going to go on for quite a while and whomever did not get what they personally want will QQ like a 7 year old for a while afterward. Often, these same folks will play the game in the new configuration and either change their mind or have a large bunch of folks that they are full of ****. If I was upset by the commando suit or the lack of the inclusion of a gal heavy then I agree. This isn't an issue lack of equipment or favoritism to another play style. This is a problem with a core aspect of the game.
Now it's hard for me to believe that the game CCP wants to make is shield focused (caveat: for infantry) due to the inclusion of an armor based race. I could be wrong here, seriously I was just thinking that I have the paradigm wrong and it shields are the main tank and armor should be seen as hull tanking. With no explicit feedback from CCP I can't know for sure.
As to your point that this game is an ongoing development I can only agree. I think many people were disappointed by the "release" of Dust 514. I have faith in this style of game, I am all to happy to shuck off the yearly repurchasing of shooters that wipe my advancement every time. I can feel like I am building something in Dust. That being said, waiting until this product is feature complete for balancing passes is unacceptable. |
