Ever notice that there are people who have like 4-5 threads around that they have been bumping for the last 3 weeks? The type that goes into a thread and trolls a point, derailing a thread instead of contributing to it? The type that uses sharp wit or attacks instead of strength of argument to gather support for their assertion in a thread? The type that I look at and think "I have 25,000+ kills, I've played everyone on dust, even these guys like darken-sol and shottygo bang, and yet I've never seen you?" and then you check the top 250 players over the last month and realize virtually none of them play the game that much. None of them plays enough to earn like 1.8 mill WP's this last month and a half. They just spout off on the forums all day about how this needs this and this needs that and the commando suit needs this and how this idea will fix PC. I gotta be honest. Your efficacy for me from now on will be based somewhat (not solely of course) on whether you play the game enough to be in the info brokers top 250 players. There are also just some people on here that have tons of likes and are well known enough of the forums that I personally have seen multiple posts that were straight stupid. But people listen to them because they post a lot, or have a lot of likes.
We need more people that play the game a ton to be giving feedback to straighten up some of these extremely gross nerf/buff threads.
If I'm being dumb about this let me know. Or you want examples I'll bust out names and posts. I personally wouldn't like to call out specific people...but it's a little ridiculous in here.
Also...feel free to tell me to shutup. I'm just a noob who plays the game and gets carried by proto gear sometimes when i manage not to go negative.
Anyways. Thoughts?
P.S. Plugging here for the CPM chambers forum..it's barren, go check out what they are up 2/ask them. Keep the CPM wrapped around your finger, they answer to you! |

Actually no, you are sometimes useless in threads, but not what the OP is about TBH. Shut up and stop drawing attention to yourself you noob. You always do this when I want real feedback. Got any insight? |

You always do this when I want real feedback. Got any insight? I'm not honestly sure what you're looking for. Most of the serious feedback people who used to keep threads in line with data and good insight have given up on the forums completely. CCP looks more at Pub Data then they do vet feedback and uprising broke the chain that binded them to here.
We've several new people trying there best - but when a good portion of the active posters are closed beta and bring them down for lack of experience the forums turn into a meta war for the game.
The feedback section is the only holy ground where serious discussions about the game can be found.
Also - I don't believe a person even need 5,000 kills to have a voice of reason around here - it's only when they compare experiences like it's meaingful over others that those facts should be used to shut them up. I myself only have 12,000 kills yet have been playing since June of last year. That doesn't mean a person like ChicagoCubs with 75,000 kills would have better feed-back or argument.
The forums should be a more open minded experience where the inexperienced can speak up and learn - and I feel like we do have that here - but the idea of "EVE being harsh" is too bled into some mentalities in here so come off more trollish then they appear.
Also - I'd love to know those names you held back.
PS: If I didn't touch upon what you're asking for let me know and I'll re-look at the thread. May need to reiterate if that's the case though. |

Weighting the opinions of only those that meet a criteria of import that you have defined into existence excludes most members of a community of equals. You propose a clique not a community. it equates to keeping women from the vote. They never worked in top civil or political positions and could not own property. Why let their opinions count on matters they are not able to directly control or relate to.

It is dumb to act that way, I mean a good idea is a good idea no matter who comes up with it but I do see your point What I think is best and what I try to do is handle these things on a case by case basis, if I disagree with a person in one thread but really like an idea or post they have in another Im not going to let that earlier negative interaction blind me And using something like hours spent or K/D ratio is even worse since its not even acknowledging them as a person, just a preconceived notion due to some numbers that dont really mean anything in the long run |

For serious discussion, go to Feedback. General Trolling is mostly useless.
And how many players in the top 250 actively (and seriously) post, anyway? That's a very small group of people.

We all play the game. We all share an equal right to have our opinions voiced. I dare say you have never heard of or played me and I have few kills. But i am a DS pilot. Try getting 75 000 kills or a great KDR doing only that. Whatever measure you try to use to gauge skill or worth you exclude people.
Did I say only those? I said it would be part of a measuring stick. |

That's really the tl;dr and like the OP states, I'm not saying at all this should be the only thing that measures. I've completely disagreed with Iron wolf in an aurum transfer thread and yet still respect his opinions. I'm also drunk in Vegas playing slots wasting my night away and trying to post legitimately might not have been my best idea. I'll cede that point to you XD |

I got curious so I checked your measuring stick Tons of guys on the leaderboard with perfect KD ratios but you have to wonder how many are go cart drivers and how many are MCC snipers Would you value their opinions more than people that dont exploit broken things solely because of the leaderboard? |

I see.
If a person came in from open beta or launch and has opinions with such low experience it would need a second looking at - but there's no reason what so ever to disregard his post for this reason alone. It would fall unto us vets to validate his claims and responses and properly trol.. I mean educate him on any possible mistakes. |

Exactly. I need to re-read the OP, I think i forgot to mention I didn't intend it to be the sole factor on deciding a posts merit, cause that woud be dumb.
Edit: Yep i included your sentiment in the OP. I really do think a player thats been playing lately (the top 250 shows based on WP accumulation, not KDR) gives you an advantage in terms of relevance to a nerf/buff thread. |

So uh... this post reminded me to go check out the new 250 report since I remembered a new one was due out.
It doesn't have player names on it though, so you're gonna need a new stick.
I would agree with the general sentiment of your post on many matters, though, if not the particulars. |

Uh huh How about win loss ratio, Im sure to you a player that wins most of their matches would have an opinion worth its weight in gold Now lets just go check the leaderboard and see who is on type
My my this is impressive, his win loss ratio is 11857.00 But hmm this is odd, he only has 68 kills total
Thats gotta be a bug Im sure, someone with more than 10k battles under his belt surely would get far more kills than that unless there was some funny business afoot
I hope you get my point, people will lie cheat and sell their own mothers when it comes to leaderboard rankings and using them to seriously judge a players worth or how much credence to give their opinion is a joke |

Which is why the top 250 ranks the info broker provides are so awesome...it's just about WP's...time spent in game. with the stuff a person is claiming to be so knowledgable about.

I think it's best to not judge a person at all from stats but by how we ourselves take to his comments. These boards are quite active - if a newbie comes a long and spouts non-sense he always gets trolled into submission. A good example is a thread on page 1, "Why didn't CCP reset everything on launch." or some crap. Vets will point out his bad logic and his KDR/Kills have nothing to do with our responses to him.
I would say Likes are a better way to judge if a person knows what he's talking about around here. Check the top 20 most liked people and see if you'd listen to there advice or opinion.

Nah a sniper would have a negative W/L, 99.9% of them are useless.
Anyway, it's not like it's hard to ignore people on the leaderboards with fewer than a couple thousand kills. |

This is ultimately the best way, sans the Like farmers part.
Take Arkena Wyrmpsire's posts in Feedback about Armor/Shields imbalances, for instance. The guy collected input, formulated new points, ran numbers, organized it all, and posted two very long and detailed threads about the issues surrounding it. But I don't think I've ever actually seen him in game, not on that character at least. I doubt he's in the top 250 anything, besides Useful Forum Posters. |
