I TAKE IT ALL BACK. LOL, apparently Core grenade spam is the new name of the game. "Core 514" weather its flaylocks or locus grenades, 8/10 times I fight someone who either starts a fight by trying to kill me with a grenade, OR they drop it out of desperation right before I kill them. My solution to this new found spamming...... Spam back. Me and my squad are just running strate up nanohives and standard/advanced locus grenades. Our new motto is "if we can throw more grenades then them, will win" interesting enough..... as soon as we deployed this method our scores (and morale) went back to like it was yesterday. We just finished a match using this new technique, I went 29 and 2. And my suits cheaper too, so that's nice. LOL. My personal goal is to spam them until they get a nerf, but that might just be wishful thinking. At any rate I refuse to not use them until there gone because the way I was playing yesterday just isn't valid anymore. LOL I think they call these sorts of things..... "hard counters", and as a result we were forced to hard counter back.
So yeah.... What do you guys think??? I thought it was funny how a grenade does 600 damage in an area about as wide as my proto nanohives are....... I mean..... its not game breaking I guess. But this is a problem that effects EVERYONE not just me with my playstyles (mountain snipers are exempt). It doesn't matter if your gallente, amar, min, cal, if you don't have more then 600 shields (or at-least 750 EHP) your going to get one hit killed by these things. Lol, spam FTW.
(BTW what my squad is doing right now is the extreme version of this..... limiting the amount of grenades you get from nanohives or whatever you guys might think wont make them any less powerful, because most people just aren't taking it to this level, and are still just as effective)
But seriously, am I the only one noticing this spam? or does someone else have the same problem? |

HAHAHAHAHAHA sinboto prepare for a mega nerf. I WILL NOT STOP spamming these things until they get a nerf. Imagine a 6 man squad just tossing grenades into rooms over and over again without end due to nanohive spam. It doesn't matter how good your defense is, unless you have and equal or greater amount of grenades to throw back then your not going to win. This was proven within two games of field testing. Unfortunately its very late so we all had to get off, but yeah...... Im actively working against your suit sinboto! beacause Your explosives are actively working against me enjoying this game...... |

Even if theres grenade indicators people can still pull off grenade spam..... Do you think a grenade indicator would make any difference to me when someone is cooking a grenade for me? NO! instant explosion is an instant explosion! I expect grenades to be good, but not soooooo good that they one hit a proto suit that has less then 750 EHP...... I mean seriously! Ive been getting one hit killed by MILITIA grenades! with 550 EHP I thought that was was IMPOSSIBLE but it isn't..... just awful...... |

I expect a militia grenade to NOT one hit kill my 550 EHP proto suit....... I don't expect a proto grenade to 1 hit kill any suit short of 800 hitpoints anywhere within a 7 meter radius of its blast point...... Im not expecting to be immune to grenades, its just awful that almost every engagement I had today started with someone throwing a grenade at me...... |

Since aiming in this game sucks so much, i use my M1's, and now my Cores, more than I do my gun (least it seems that way). It's pretty much my first reaction when I come across and battle an enemy player. And is my only reaction when I see 3 or more enemies in an area.
I have gotten quite good at cooking them and timing the throws right, it is very fun. Newer players must think they are impact nades by how I get them to explode pretty much right on contact with their feet.
I tried the thukkers and sucked horribly with them, I am just too used to cooking nades. Plus for some lame reason, you can't actually hold active thukkers without them blowing up in a few seconds (as if they were being cooked). WTF is that crap? They are impact nades, I should be able to run around with L2 depressed the entire match without them going off. Freakin CCP FPS greenhorns
Cores are beast though, got a mini-orbital the other night in which I killed at least 6 people in one throw. |

Grenade cook does not equal grenade spam. It is not at all the same thing. Rarely do I die from people cooking grenades and forcing me into an explosion. What I die from a lot is someone bombarding an hot spot with several genades and because the grenade location icon never seems to work nearly at all, there is pretty much nothing you can do but die. I know that I am going to die because I heard them bounce on the ground near me or being thrown, but I have absolutely no idea which way to move in order to escape the explosion. I would like to see this grenade location icon fixed and then afterward i am quite certain that grenade spam very quickly fall out of fashion. |

Grenades are one of the weapons that require most skill to be used, everyone can spam grenades, only skilled players know how to use them properly, so for me it's not a problem if they do a lot of damage. I agree with the guy who told that we need a better indicator, but if someone cook the nade for me he's good at it and he deserves the kill. |

if they can hit you with a grenade, they're within shooting range, so it's your fault for not being aware of who's around you. They also have audio cues, you can hear the high pitched noise right before they go off.
I do agree they need to fix the icon though, that's just unacceptable |

What's there to be aware of? Grenades don't require stealth. The problem is that shooting requires actual skill to kill with and grenades are meant to be unfair because in the real world soldiers don't respawn. It's just there because it's what you put into a game with army men in it. |

In the real world, you have a much better ability to track any objects that may be flying through the air at any given time. You also have the ability to pinpoint the location of a given sound (such as a grenade hitting the ground near you). And this is why we need the grenade icon to be working properly. |

It's called noob tubes. They are there to allow new players an easy way to counter proto players, but if you go into PC and just made spam I will lol at you. If you haven't seen the extra credits noob tubes prevent new players from constantly getting stomped on my veterans who have better tactics/skill/gear. Playing PC will teach any made spammer that while it may be effective in certain situations in pub matches, there are much better strategies. Noob tubes are a way to balance for player skill. |

Okay. Grenades are fine.
Yes, they are powerful and capable of instakilling under certain conditions. But they have plenty of limitations and balancing things, don't forget those.
First, 'nades as themselves (not hive-spammed):
- Numbers being carried are quite limited and nanohive replenishemt is a bit clumsy way.
- Nades do have some delay before throwing (not instant).
- Most effective grenade use is still cooking, which takes microplanning and time.
- Long distance throws do take skill as they tend to bounce back from corners and walls nearby.
- Not to mention the fact that nades are from the few weps able to suicide you, the most likely ones.
- And finally - Core nades take significant amount of PG/CPU while fitting meaning you'll have to bargain somewhere else. (well maybe not with CA logi running pure assault)
Second, about the hive-nade spamming:
- This tactic was hampered somewhat by recent nanohive nerf: the easier-to-fit hives hand out only few nades.
- Expect future CA Logi nerf reduce the supply of nanohives on field as well.
- As already said, spamming is usually focused on one specific spot (room/CRU/whatever) and as such is are denial with ability to kill reds in that area. Giving up on going thru that spot works - and yes it's a matter of tactics and decisions whether you want to go thru there.
- The spammers are bound with the location of their hives - they cannot roam around endlessly killing. If they just stay there at their hives for minute or so, smart reds take advantage of their immobility.
- Spammers are especially vulnerable to nades themselves (sometimes even bouncing blue nades do the trick)
The expection to this is supply depot spamming which does suck - but on the other hand is even more predictable and stationary.
The biggest problem is within the mindset of people that while knowing few microtactical starting elements they expect the situations to end always the same. The expectations can be like "proto suit always wins lesser suits", "if I got head start on damage I must win" "If a red runs for cover he is a loser" and such. Naturally there's so many variables rocking those expectations, and grenades are a very big one.
Nades themselves can change the course of an encounter for either way. Hive-nade spam is also an effective momentary tactic on the field. |
