A theory; CCP has re inverted most of their staff to work on the PS4 version of Dust, following the announcement of the PS4's release later this year. They may not have gotten the info of the PS4's release until early this year. Perhaps they believed the PS4 would not be released until the holiday season of 2014.
Do you believe that this is a possible reason that CCP has not been able to release many of the features they said would be included with the release of the game?
Perhaps this is also why they decided to release Dust for PS3 on May the 14th. They may have changed it from their original time frame of a fall release because they do not want to release the PS3 and PS4 versions too close together. It could also be because they do not want Dust 414 releasing so close to the PS4 official release (probably fall as well). I think this is a strong possibility because it made little sense to end the beta, with not much of the key mechanics being solidified.
Just a theory. |

Just a theory. it would make sense but from what i heard they have different teams to work on those projects |

CCP has stated clearly (for marketing speak that is) on several occasions that the focus currently is on the PS3. |

To be honest i do no think porting a game that runs on Unreal 3 would be all that hard to port to a PS4.
CCP could probably farm the work out. |

Though I wouldn't be surprised if there is a concerted effort to porting the game to the PS4. The two consoles have very different hardware profiles, the PS4 with it's more standard chipset and the PS3 with it's Cell. What works for one will not work for the other, so it's taking a bit more effort to port over. |

While possible I think it is unlikely. My belief is that most of their resources are still focused on the PS3 with perhaps a very small team or even just one person currently looking at what needs to be done to get the game onto the PS4. |

They may want to make an entire new build, so they can take advantage of the PS4's improved spec's. |

unreal3 was designed for x86 and ported to ps3 cell, ps4 is x86. So, a game engine designed for ps3 would be hard to port, but the engine was designed for something similar to ps4 and ported to ps3.
So, porting dust, borderlands, and other ps3 unreal games would be simple, porting game made for ps3 from engine up like mag or infamous would be a huge pain. Epic already did most of the work when they ported unreal3 to the ps3.
They just need to move the code built on ps3 unreal 3 to the ps4 version of unreal 3, basically the same as pc unreal3 I would guess, then check for new bugs. Probably less time to port then to fix some o9f the bugs we have now. When ccp decides to port it it will probably just assign one team while rest keep doing what they were. |

Makes sense if they are just porting the same version.
Though, what if they are making a new build, that utilizes the new capabilities of the PS4?
Better graphics, bigger maps, more players per battle, better connection, bigger interaction between EVE and Dust. Seems like all that would take more than one team. |

It will be the same version. it may have values for draw distance raised and better graphics and it should load faster and have better frame rates. Same maps, player counts, physics, and servers as ps3.
They will run the same version until ps3 support is dropped and we can't use ps3 at all.
To use an analogy of another game...
- Battlefield 3 is out on ps3
- battlefield 4 released for ps3 and ps4. Ps4 version still limited in gameplay so it can share servers with ps3 version. All players with copy of bf3 get upgraded to bf4 and bf3 server shutoff on release day.
- battlefield 5 is released on ps4, all bf4 players are upgraded as servers shutoff. ps3 battlefield players have ps4 version of bf5 now, they can't play without buying new console.
This is about how the ps4 port will go for dust, it will be held back until around 90% of players are on ps4 and all ps3 support is dropped. In about 10 years same thing will happen when ps4 support is dropped for ps5 or pc or whatever it is one by then.
We can't get bigger maps or player counts on ps4 version unless we get them for ps3 as well. They have tested internally larger player counts and maps on ps3, so there is still run for growth.
One of the main things ccp does with games is not split the player base on separate shards.
Eve used to have an eve classic for old pc that ran on same servers with worse graphics, suppoert was dropped after few used it, but the feature set was never reduced. It was on same servers and had all features available, just with older style graphics. |

This is a funny thread when dust has still yet to be confirmed to ever be on ps4. Also, if it ever is, Im sure that it will initially stream like all ps3 games are planned to and later will quite easily port into unreal 4. |

Not all ps3 games will stream. Some designed for ps3 from ground up won't be worth time to port. For example, I doubt Sony will spent the money to port MAG to ps4, it might cost almost as much as making a MAG 2 instead. Huge hits and games on easy to port engines like, unreal3, will be streamed.
I would guess Dust will just have an option to download the ps4 version, basically the ps3 build with graphics setting turned up. One team should be able to do this pretty easy.
They plan to have dust still going in 10 years, so it will be ported at some point, unless it jumps to pc instead. No reason to do it right away though. |

I heard it was a one year contract, one year starting from release, perhaps? Don't quote me on that though. |

Insanely wishful thinking. Nearly jovial because this is how ccp has been since open beta. So no the lack of communication means they are doing whatever they always do. The PS3 build must generate a profit in order to continue to another platform, dust is in the red. |
