A theory; CCP has re inverted most of their staff to work on the PS4 version of Dust, following the announcement of the PS4's release later this year. They may not have gotten the info of the PS4's release until early this year. Perhaps they believed the PS4 would not be released until the holiday season of 2014.
Do you believe that this is a possible reason that CCP has not been able to release many of the features they said would be included with the release of the game?
Perhaps this is also why they decided to release Dust for PS3 on May the 14th. They may have changed it from their original time frame of a fall release because they do not want to release the PS3 and PS4 versions too close together. It could also be because they do not want Dust 414 releasing so close to the PS4 official release (probably fall as well). I think this is a strong possibility because it made little sense to end the beta, with not much of the key mechanics being solidified.
Just a theory. |

Just a theory. To be honest i do no think porting a game that runs on Unreal 3 would be all that hard to port to a PS4. CCP could probably farm the work out. I am thinking that they might not want to just port it.
They may want to make an entire new build, so they can take advantage of the PS4's improved spec's. |

So, porting dust, borderlands, and other ps3 unreal games would be simple, porting game made for ps3 from engine up like mag or infamous would be a huge pain. Epic already did most of the work when they ported unreal3 to the ps3.
They just need to move the code built on ps3 unreal 3 to the ps4 version of unreal 3, basically the same as pc unreal3 I would guess, then check for new bugs. Probably less time to port then to fix some o9f the bugs we have now. When ccp decides to port it it will probably just assign one team while rest keep doing what they were. Makes sense if they are just porting the same version.
Though, what if they are making a new build, that utilizes the new capabilities of the PS4?
Better graphics, bigger maps, more players per battle, better connection, bigger interaction between EVE and Dust. Seems like all that would take more than one team. |

For example, I doubt Sony will spent the money to port MAG to ps4, it might cost almost as much as making a MAG 2 instead. Huge hits and games on easy to port engines like, unreal3, will be streamed.
I would guess Dust will just have an option to download the ps4 version, basically the ps3 build with graphics setting turned up. One team should be able to do this pretty easy.
They plan to have dust still going in 10 years, so it will be ported at some point, unless it jumps to pc instead. No reason to do it right away though. They can't go to PC yet, they signed an exclusivity contract with Sony.
I heard it was a one year contract, one year starting from release, perhaps? Don't quote me on that though. |
