I first heard about DUST about two years ago, and was looking forward to it's release. I figured, CCP made EVE, and I love EVE, so they must make another game that will also be damn good! I figured that DUST would be massive, just like EVE is. We would fight huge scale battles across planets and affect EVE so that they couldn't ignore us.
A few days ago I finally got to try DUST. I spent three days trying my damned hardest to like this game. Grinding for SP just so that I can have a suit that'll be more suitable towards what I wanted to do in the game (logistics, combat medic type of thing). Participating in extremely small-scale battles (16v16, with many players on both sides being afk), a poor integrated voice system so that I can barely hear other players, and worst of all, very low variety in what I see across the battlefield.
A few friends advise me to play Planetside 2, since it's for the PC and supposedly is better. I try it, and within an hour or two I'm completely sucked into the game, enthralled, loving it. 6 hours in, I have no complaints whatsoever besides cash shop griping from a poor college student.
Why has CCP failed so miserably with this game? Why are they ignoring our pleas to make it better? I don't understand. |

DUST wasn't able to run on CCP's Carbon platform, and instead had to be developed on Unreal instead due to PS3 limitations, and by then, they were (I am going to take a shot) already obligated by an exclusivity contract with Sony. This meant a severe crippling of their efforts to fully interlink EVE Online and DUST 514
I'm going to say that all the other development problems have stemmed from that, since DUST has been, technically, in development since they began working on the full-body graphics engine for "walking in stations/ambulation" expansions for EVE Online.
Because it was a dual-purpose development effort, when they ran into the problem that the Carbon Engine couldn't run on the PS3, it crippled both the expansion development and set DUST development back to near-square-one, and now their development teams were split between two very different projects instead of jointly working off the same engine to combine the projects.
So, in the end, we get what we have.

The fact it was released as a freemium and not a full release is likely a result of the stunted development progress, they couldn't feel justified releasing DUST 'as-is' and charge an up-front price, particularly in the face of potentially lucrative scam-shop returns for short-term gains. |

If you can get past all the bull**** answers...
One reason is that you'll often be in matches with a squad of 6 "good" players on the team against your team which is composed of MCC snipers and newberries.
In this case, you run around getting killed a lot, or perhaps simply run over by LAVs until the timer runs out (as so many people are hiding somewhere you won't run out of clones).
This is not overly fun.
I don't mind losing -- but I like having the ability to fight back and at least make a game out of it.
Matchmaking is often mentioned -- but there might be "more fun" ways to solve this. Whatever is done I hope CCP let's people opt out of it so they can move into more competitive matches if they wish. So, the filter should be one way... and optional.
Even now, with our current minimal new player mode, a vet should not have to squad up to get out of the battle academy if they start a new alt. Just let them opt up to regular game play with their alt if they like. Optional. O P T I O N A L.
NOTE: Notice the complaint aspect here... stop throwing the label fanboy around just because people think you have stupid ideas or express them in a crappy way. |

Yeah the community is a big reason I stopped playing last week. Repulsed by sicc fanbois constantly defending a broken mechanic. I will stick around for 1.2 but prolly not much longer. |
