It's the forums.
I've been a long time browser of the forums here. After a while of this I've seen a trend. Practically everyone here complains constantly, and bashes CCP, or just trolls. This is ridiculous. So here's my take.
First, I have several characters I have played a lot. I've been a Medic/Logi, assault, shotgun scout, laser rifle, tanker, dropship pilot, and sniper. I have rarely experienced one tenth of the stuff being constantly whined about on here. So I've compiled a small list of answers to the commonly complained about issues:
1. Lag; Maybe you should check your internet connection and placement of your PS3. This isn't a small game and small maps there's a lot to be digested.
2. Hit detection; Haven't had a problem since Uprising. Maybe you really just need to aim a bit better. This isn't Call of Duty the sticky aiming isn't going to save your life.
3. The Shotgun debacle; see answer two.
4. PC being broken; Personally never done PC so I wouldn't know, but reading all the constant whining here's my thing: 1. Timezones; Understand that can be frustrating to other countries. 2. No one sees a need for it in EvE. I haven't particularly looked at EvE itself with planetary involvement, since I'm not in the bigger alliances that most of the teams seem to be connected to, so I can't see if it really is having the effect that CCP intended. As long as it's working as planned, then yes it has an impact. So if you say it doesn't or EvE isn't taking it serious enough, here's what I propose you do; start a corporation of all the people complaining on Dust forums about it and start taking the districts with ZERO tie to EvE. If it starts impacting EvE players wallets they'll start taking you serious.
5. Comparing Dust 514 to any other shooter is pointless and immediately makes your argument moot. Dust 514 isn't another shooter it's not Call of Duty, it's not Battlefield, it's not Planetside 2. I'm sorry if that's what you expected.
6. Complaining about stuff taking to long to patch or fix. When did the game ACTUALLY go live? Everything before that was just beta. Expecting stuff to be fixed immediately after we JUST came out of Beta is kind of asinine.
7. Skill respec. Okay, CCP reset your character. You went crazy changed some stuff, wanted something different, didn't want to wait on the new patch to come out and you spent your skill points. Now, CCP says they'll hook you up, they're giving you a free respec. I, say to this, here's your coloring book, shut up and color. They'll get to it when they get to it. Fill out your Ticket and be done with the whining. I've seen several posts by Devs saying there was some characters that fell through the cracks, understandable. Re-submit a ticket and wait.
8. Get off the DEV's back. This is their job, they're doing something no other game has, not to mention this is CCP's first foray into an FPS. There's going to be bumps in the road. It's fine, they're working on it. A little common courtesy and respect will get you a long way. If you have a problem relay it to them, don't immediately jump on the forums and blast out "DUST IS DEAD!" or "OHMAHGAWD FPS IS BROKEN!" or "THIS GAME SUCKS!" If I was a CCP reading these forums day after day listening to all the negativity and complaining, I wouldn't help a single one of you.
Anyway, off of my soap box now.

I fully agree with this. The forums are totally overrun by angry people, making up a vocal minority. No the game isn't perfect but they are actually working on it.
This forum could really use some more rules and moderators. Of course it's not wrong to criticize the game, or some elements of it, but this has gone too far. |

Yes I am fully aware that a lot of people haven't received their respec. That sucks. But complaining about it on the forum is far less productive than actually resubmitting their ticket or emailing CCP.
Nimera wrote:Looks like somebody got their respec already
You are correct. I'll even do you one better, I switched from what I liked doing in Beta to doing something else in Uprising. I hated it and I wanted to switch back. Instead of initially coming on here and complaining, and asking for a respec, I started the grind over. Then when CCP announced they were doing respecs I asked for one, waited patiently for it to come. Sucks it hasn't came for some people but like I said before to da GAND, stop complaining and actually fill out your ticket again, or email CCP. Then wait.

Sorry, the frame rate is god awful quite often. My internet connection is fine (if irrelevant) and the PS3 is well ventilated, it even has the external fans add on.
I don't go around making threads about it, cause I'm pretty sure they're well aware of it. But don't make excuses for it. |

Then it wasn't directed at you. Again haven't had the issue, stating my experience. Plus offering some advice. Don't jump to conclusions. Plus isn't framerate and general lag two different things? I said lag, or at least I'm pretty sure I did.

I'll give it a closer inspection just because I'm more than willing to do anything in my ability to help alleviate the issue. I don't have those problems with any other game, though. |

"Lag" it's not only when ppl teleport: for example "lag" is when you shoot at someone and he gets no damage/gets damage after a determined amount of time. "Lag" is textures not updating. If you haven't seen any of these things, then yes, you're lucky. You might have a really strong connection or you might not have played enough. Mind you that not everyone can have a 100Mbps connection... and anyway, yes. This game sometimes lag. Eu vs Us or Us vs Asia etc will always lag. |

In general, you'll see a lot more negative feedback than positive, because people for whom everything works fine for don't go out of their way to say "Hey, this game is working fine for me, just thought I'd let you know." If you read the forums, you'd think the game was a laggy, buggy mess, but as far as I can tell, it works fine. I've gotten the disconnected from PSN error exactly once in the 3 weeks I've been actively playing the game and haven't had any issues with lag at all. Even the freezes on the loading screen only seem to happen once or twice every couple of nights, and while I'd like that to be fixed ASAP, it's not something I care about enough to complain about on the forums to anyone who'll listen. |

I find that it's exceedingly rare to make it through a single match without at least one squad member having some sort of game breaking problem arise. |

Ant that's entirely possible. It's also possible that the problem is on their end rather than an issue with the game. I generally only squad up with a handful of IRL friends, and for the most part, we can play for several hours straight with no major issues. Occasionally one or more of us will get the loading screen bug, but that's it. Aside from the guy who's on garbage internet and can't even stay connected on Skype. |

What, no textures not loading doesn't have anything to do with lag. There's framerate lag and network lag. Lag is when the game is jumpy.
Network lag occurs when the server or your connection can't keep up. This results in players (or yourself) teleporting, or health not keeping up.
Framerate lag occurs when the hardware (in this case; the ps3) can't keep up. This (as the name suggests) makes your framerate drop, sometimes in spikes, sometimes over a longer duration.
I personally never had any significant framerate drops after beta, though spikes sometimes happen. I've had network lag happen very rarely, but it was without a doubt the one player i could see "teleporting" which had a bad connection. Of course hardware lag can also make problems with the connection. Also I only run 10 mbit/s, 10th of what you assumed :p |

Yeah I just ran a network test on mine to see. 8Mbps Download and 1Mbps Upload. Haven't had an issue.
For people who don't know; hit your playstation home button the go settings -> network settings -> internet connection test.
I'm not saying this is what you're connecting to the game at, I'm not saying this is the problem, I'm saying that's what you're connected with your playstation at. |

Could be both. I find it unlikely that an issue that some people encounter seemingly all the time, while others rarely encounter it, if at all, isn't due. at least in part, to something on the user's end, whether poor internet, the model of their PS3, the number of chat channels they have open, or something else. It seems likely that it's something the user has some degree of control over, otherwise, it's something that should be affecting everyone consistently, instead of only 2/3 of the playerbase. |

CCP have already stated that the problem is with memory leaks and poorly optimized code. Sure, it may very well be partly the "fault" of the players connection, but it's really sort of irrelevant. If a large percentage of players are having more problems in Dust 514 than they have with other games, it's CCP's job to fix it. I've never seen another PS3 title with such persistent and major problems. |

Love that point especially. Since it's kind of impossible to argue against it. I love how well you articulated this part of your argument. |

My internet connection is fine (if irrelevant) and the PS3 is well ventilated, it even has the external fans add on. It's strange though, that some of us don't have any lag. I can recommend vacuuming the ps3, or something like it. I did that to my laptop, and it stopped crashing when playing games. But exactly what you mean for "lag"? "Lag" it's not only when ppl teleport: for example "lag" is when you shoot at someone and he gets no damage/gets damage after a determined amount of time. "Lag" is textures not updating. If you haven't seen any of these things, then yes, you're lucky. You might have a really strong connection or you might not have played enough. Mind you that not everyone can have a 100Mbps connection... and anyway, yes. This game sometimes lag. Eu vs Us or Us vs Asia etc will always lag.
I also only very rarely experience lag when playing on the local server in europe, it is doable playing on the US server from europe with only a smaller amount of lag. But playing on the asian or ocean server from europe is terrible. I agree with the OP that if you have lag you are either having a bad network connection or gets connected to a server in another region than your own. The risc of getting on another server increases significantly if you play outside of normal hours in your region as most are at work, studying or at sleep.
A quick test will show you the lag, it is not accurate but can be used in the beginning of the match to show if you should take on a support role intead of going cqc. Take a shoot as you spawn and keep an eye on the ammunition counter, if it decreases the same split second you hit the trigger you are all good. I remember playing a forge gunner in chromosone and playing on the asian server gave my forge a second of lag. I shoot the forge gun and a second later the shoot connected, it became a challenge to lead the forge. Another lag indicator is when you a being shot at and jump behind cover and continue to take damage as you take cover and end up dieying even with no line of sight from the red dot.
And no connection problems here iether from, these must also be local network problems or an issue with older PS3 systems. I have only the loading screen of death after extensive gaming sessions when joining a new match. |

No see the problem here is that you actually have to be skilled and familiar with other FPS games in order to properly comment on why the FPS aspects of this game are so horrendous still. People get on here and say oh the hit detection is fine lol, but they also fail to admit that their aim is terrible, and they themselves can't tell the difference between bad aim and magic bullets |

If you read the forums, you'd think the game was a laggy, buggy mess, but as far as I can tell, it works fine. I routinely go several matches in squads without anyone having issues. It does happen, but not consistently. 25Mbps, wired to a modem that'll support 4 ps3s (3 wireless, 1 wired) by design problem & LAG free (LAGS FRAME RATE NIGHTLY, with no pc's and only 1 wired ps3 NIGHTLY)... its IS DUST 514... however, those n00bs with UPRISING only experience see DATA LEAK LAG next to never... DELETE DUST, redownload current psn version from store. MOST lag is time elapsed DATA LEAK ... from E3 build... try the redownload |

I don't go around making threads about it, cause I'm pretty sure they're well aware of it. But don't make excuses for it.
I only have major lag problems if I use my router but if I am directly connected to the modem then I rarely have problems. I still think it is a router through put problem on the user side. I am not saying that DUST is not the cause but I am saying that a router exacerbates the problem. I play other online games through the router and ambush usually works fine but any skirmish map lags hard. |

I argued the lag issue with a few people in this post stating I had not had an issue. I'd like to say I was wrong. Last week was running into some major lag issues, I went through everything I could think of to fix it to no avail. So, you were right I was wrong. But, still not a game breaker for me. |

Wow, another neckbeard sayig how he doesnt have problems with a poorly programmed FPS, big suprise here. When you don't participate in the a major component of this game and you play spreadsheets in space, your opinion matters less than the guy spamming Planetside2 posts everday. Although, I don't have a problem with that guy. |

Awwwwww... Aren't you just the cutest little window licker I have ever seen.
Are you just fuming because everyone flamed your post about a damn typo in a job posting? Now you're looking for other stuff to complain about, like only having one like on a character? I can't even take you seriously anymore.
