I am genuinely not trying to troll (I know - that's what a troll would say), but have any of you played this and compared it to Dust?
Similarities
Space type FPS's Multiple factions to join Character customization Free to Play Air vehicles Ground vehicles Character class Multiple character can be made on one account Shileds and Armor Both made by Sony, so XB1 will NOT be seeing this game.
Differences
(Planetside 2) Only for PC right now. Confirmed to be coming out for PS4. More refined than Dust. Graphics are great - Look up some gameplay on youtube Developers seem to be pushing their media pretty well. -> https://www.planetside2.com/media
- They have a "Friday Night Ops" that focuses on biggest battles, fittings and other game crap with some chick named Auraxis
- A show on youtube
- In game live battle streaming
- Tons of wallpaper to download on their site + videos
You can pick whatever class you want, whenever you want, and begin leveling it like Battlefield 3 Infinite sprint (After playing this game and losing all my stamina jumping twice after getting stuck going up a hill, having to wait 5 sedondss, then jumping more to get up a hill I could walk up in real life - THANK GOD). The community seems friendlier. Look at this topic on Gamefaqs. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/718190-planetside-2/66429788 Why would anyone jump onto another systems board and promote the game to people that have never played it? People on their forums definitely aren't as upset with the game or developers as this forum is. You can play as a class called "Max" which is like some kind of jugernaut-techno-supersoldier. I think it's like a power you can activate if you do well enough. Not sure. More players in a match (I think 80 vs 80?) It seems like the moment you login, you are in battle. You spawn in a safezone protected by a huge dome, and in order to fight you just go outside the dome into enemy territories (that you can capture). Because of this, I don't think there are any other game modes besides all out war. Test server to bullshit around on. Very thorough tutorial that walks you through everything there is to do You can customize weapons (Silencers, scopes, etc)
Honestly I can't talk about the gameplay because I can't play for crap on the PC. Definitely too used to controllers, lol. I ran around a bit and everything seems way more responsive. Again, I haven't really played much, but the first impressions are way higher than what this game gave me. Just my opinion.
(Dust 514) Less players in a match More of an RPG element. Much deeper character customization. Glitchy Graphics are... eh. Finite Stamina Tied to another game. Orbital bombardments(?). I'm not sure if PS2 has this or not. More weapon varieties. No test server More game modes
Dust has a lot of potential, but unfortunately I've emptied 50+rounds into people to just barely break their shields too many times to really think of too many great things this game has going for it. It certainly has potential though. No one can deny that.
So my question is: When it comes to people who like MMOFPS's, why would anyone choose Dust over Planetside 2? Have any of you played both and still chose Dust? Really I'm not trying to troll or convert people, I just thought it was really interesting that among this community of MMOFPS enthusiasts, none of us are talking about PS2 despite how similar it is to Dust - yet it's in a much better balanced and working order (for now).

I am also fairly terrible playing FPS on a PC. I have BF3 in addition to PS2 on the PC, and man I can't aim for my life! However, vehicle gameplay is my forte in BF3 and I love attack helicopters.
Back to your discussion about PS2, I ended up trying it a week or two ago for my first time based on some gameplay videos I saw on YouTube. I enjoyed the same sci-fi genre it held as Dust and it got me interested, especially PS2's aerial vehicles.
My very first game I spawned into a Scythe (a VTOL style jet for those that don't know anything about PS2) and I crashed it immediately because the controls were inverted and I wasn't used to having roll on my mouse X-axis as opposed to yaw.
I was fairly disappointed that there was a respawn timer for the Scythe, so I spawned a tank. My very first encounter was with another tank and I killed it! I was so inexperienced with the game and I had no points into anything and I managed to kill it! I continued on for a couple more infantry kills.
I am now fairly used to flying now, but I still can't aim well without taking a lot of time to do so. I don't like that I'm stuck with the basic machine-gun type weapon since air to air missiles cost a lot of points, and rocket pods costing twice as much. Not that this is any different than BF3 or Dust, but the major difference is that if I die, I lose practically nothing. If I lived long enough, I can respawn into another Scythe immediately after, and I get aerospace points all the time every few minutes I'm in the game. I can't die too often as I won't be able to spawn another Scythe, but then I just hop into a friendly tank or call in my own and when I get killed in that, I get to respawn another Scythe.
The major difference between Dust and PS2 is you risk your own investments in Dust while vehicles in PS2 are practically free.
To answer your question, I've been playing Dust much longer than I have PS2, and my skill with a controller is that much better than my skill with a mouse and keyboard, which is why I play a lot more Dust than PS2. |

Ps2 doesn't have any real conquest and you play on tiny servers where death means nothing and you can only get 1/4th of your team into one map at a time.
But I'm going to keep linking this as long as the thread is relavant, what PS2 DOS have over dust is this http://www.planetside2.com/roadmap
Also this thread shouldn't be in this section. |

Care to share the math on that for PS2? Last I checked it takes forever and a day to unlock anything at all in PS2, and this is coming from sinking hundreds of hours into that grindfest of all grindfests. In dust I can unlock a new weapon in a day or two, in PS2 it takes literally a thousand+ kills. |

In dust it does take a while to get good gear, but in PS2 it takes much, much longer unless you shell out real money (something you can also do in DUST).

My source? The in-game Certs and the required points for Certs in Planet Side two, easy for ANYONE to see, it is even free to download.
So please, someone prove to me how you can unlock everything in PS2 in just 5 months, I'd love to know your required average points per day to accomplish that considering unlocking just one basic weapon without paying any RL money requires literally two thousand kills not counting other activity which will only lower that number a small amount. |

I'm not sure what day of the week you've been on there, but - oh wait, you must not have been on after the ZOE MAXes came out.
I guarantee you wouldn't be talking about a friendly community if you were there for that.
Or the SplatterMAX. Or Zephyrs. Or HE guns for tanks. Or Shotguns for Infiltrators.
I could go on for hours. SOE breaks **** left and right and the forums are full of people screaming at them to stop.
Coming up toward a year after release and it's still a pointless grind unless you want to spend $7 dollars per asset. Premium players get queue priority so free players can't get into servers or switch continents during "prime time", and most of the people that play it are so tired of getting **** on that they just look for empty bases and cap those for a measly 2 Cert points (takes1000 to get any good weapon) rather than deal with getting **** on by mass ZOE MAXes or whatever latest fotm OP bullshit everyone is using.
I was in for the Tech Test (Pre-Closed Beta) of that game, and I have watched it grow since then.
I have watched it grow from a steaming pile of **** into a semi-sentient steaming pile of **** that can almost form coherent words. |

I have 40,000 certs after about 5 months playing. That pretty much unlocks 100% of any infantry gear you will ever need across all classes and probably 75% of all vehicular gear I will ever need unlocked. By the time I get to 60-70k certs I will have nothing else I care about to unlock.
1 Cert = 250xp so I have earned basically 10mil XP.
1 infantry kill = between 50-500 certs, 1 vehicle kill = between 400 - 2k xp (depending on crew and other factors). Alerts are between 1k and 10k xp per event and each base capture is worth between 250-1,000xp.
I have around 15k kills, which means I am sort of averaging 660 xp per kill or 2.5 certs per kill.
There isn't really a seriously visible grind because you need to remember that those 40k certs have bought me literally hundreds of various upgrades and pieces of equipment. Like all things when you're starting at zero the mountain looks tall but when you've climbed most of it, you realise it wasn't actually a big deal.
I can honestly say I didn't fuss much over that period as to how many certs I had because the next piece of equipment was never far away. |

Average gun = 750-1000 certs = 300-400 kills. /maths Also, the starter guns are actually some of the best guns in the game. Example: the Vanu Sovereignty Orion light machine gun is arguably the most versatile and effective infantry rifle in the whole game and its your starter weapon. The only guns you NEED to buy is 1) an upgraded rocket launcher, 2) either an SMG or shotgun for CQC, 3) 2 extra gun arms for your MAX armour. Everything else is optional. I can honestly say I didn't fuss much over that period as to how many certs I had because the next piece of equipment was never far away. Example: buying the ability to use a proximity mine for my infiltrator = 200 certs (80 kills). Buying a new night vision sight for my rifle = 30 certs (12 kills). Buying L1 telescopic sight for my tank = 1 certs (less than a kill), buying L2 sight = 10 certs (4 kills) and so on. PS: Mobius is a bitter loon, PS2 has balance issues like every game but nothing remotely resembling those ravings.
Great points.
And +1 for calling out a hater.

You've never managed or moderated a message board, clearly. Mods can see info you can't. They can ban you by your IP address if they wanted plus I'm sure they have the very simple technology it takes to see what all names you have tied to you PSN account.
Besides, I think it is a pretty rightious statement that SO many people are forfeiting a character slot just to make a point about how strongly they feel this game is being mismanaged. |
