You can't get rid of them, they house our suit's power generation systems.
The Gallente suits have linear plasma-confinement technology, which allows them to incorporate the fusion generator into the spine(kinda give you that warm, comfy feeling doesn't it?)
The Amaar and Caldari use more conventional spherical and toroidal confinement systems, respectively.
The matari generators use variable-length tuned intake/exhaust, adaptive-timing, dynamic crank radial two-stokes, with good muffling to hide the exhaust note. |

Gallente have an advanced energy resource that allows for superior energy efficiency (because we are master race) so that's why Gallente suits don't have backpacks.

Gallente are few in number so tech wise they're probably the 'most' advanced in many disciplines of sciences and probably figured a way to incorporate the suit's power requirements throughout the entire suit is probably heavily borrowed from their self powering drone tech.

On backpacks, yeah, i did always wonder about that thing. i assumed it was actually the control center that powers the CPU and PG or something, which is why the gallente scout had such a small one. |

Slots are typically free spaces inside the suit to install something. Many module functions mimic or are the suit functions so installing them is like changing wheels or an engine out on a car. Heavy suits are specifically designed to withstand a bit of punishment this comes at the cost of many functions being hardwired built-in and non-interchangeable since the suit does a far better job incorporating the performance than any module could possibly try to match.
If a blank suit was 5 hi 5 low 4 equipment 2 guns and 1 grenade and you have to pump as much tech out of it as possible its is rather amazing the heavy suit can do it with the slots it has left and the fittings and processor to handle the rest. |

Ok so why no tech into heavy suits? From basic heavy to proto sentinel there is minimal slot gain compared to other suit and zero hp increase. I also like how it changed from"designed to withstand concentrated small arms fire" to "a bit more protection."
Anyways in line with the thread, ours is still bigger than yours lol. |

Nah, I'd assume if the power supply was just shut down, you'd lose your shields, all of your mods would stop working and you would lose 75% of your speed (hard to move that bulky ass suit you're totally encased in without the help of the internal servos). I could also see it being a lesser movement penalty if you were in a scout suit (which I assume is more akin to a wetsuit with some light armor plating).
So, technically you are correct, though because of the fact that your battlefield efficacy would be near 0 from the lack of power in your powered dropsuit (not because of a catastrophic failure, though it would be cool if there was a small % chance of that too). |

The reactors are amarrian inspired design, they're capable of taking multiple critical systems damage before failing. Mostly in order to cause it to mission fail would to run the suit out of armor nanites. The very same nanites responsible in maintaining suit function. Many reactors in New Eden are built in this manner and that's why the lucky shots are so rare. |
