Because in-game, the nanite injector looks...so....20th century. I mean this is sci-fi right? Right?
I know, a dermal regenerator is not supposed to regenerate bullet holes, but there's nothing to stop DUST from canonizing a device that can. And frankly it would help solve a couple of the biggest problems with the medic profession in DUST.
1) Positioning your character to "inject" your dead comrade. Its a pain in the butt. You have to stand in exactly the right spot and orient the camera over the corpse. Most likely you will get killed just trying to position yourself to stab the needle. In a sci-fi FPS, with immortal clones and all that, having to do this sort of primitive stuff to get a revive is ridiculous.
2) Revives via regenerative beam tech will allow players to revive their characters within a certain small radius of the corpse, but without precise or awkward positioning. Also, medics will still have to stand still long enough to scan the beam across the corpse.
3) Finally, and this is somewhat unrelated, in order to maximize the amount of time medics have to revive a corpse, I suggest CCP implement a change such that "calls for help" are issued automatically and immediately upon death (i can't imagine a case where a player would prefer a respawn and clone loss to a revive, medics can decide whether it is safe enough to make the revive attempt), and for revivals to be possible even during the countdown to a respawn.

Have to stab through the armor. But I see your point. The MAG style of misting from variable close range distances was perfect as it allowed for multiple angles, lag, and the differences in body position between the server and the players console. Not sure if it worked like that in MAG, but it could help this game.
I'm pretty sure though that the design is set in stone. |

As a dedicated medic and Nano' Tech, I would definitely like to see something done about the current state of Nanite Injectors (NI). As of right now, the need to be literally "on target" in order to use the NI is very difficult since the position of the downed ally on-screen does not currently coincide with the actual placement of the body. Also, I agree with the whole 21st Century feel to the NI (I know OP stated 20th Century, but it is currently is the 21st :p).
The in-game universe has equipment that utilize waves and fields to repair armor and fabricate ammunition from raw materials. Why is the NI still out dated tech? Wouldn't medical technology be more advanced? Even right now, we have AED's that any lay-person with minimal training, or even those without training can use by simply following the instructions. I suggest NI's get redesigned into something more in line with the current technology. ________________________________
Basically, the mechanics would work similar to the Repair Tool and Nova Knife:
- With the dispenser equipped, you hold the "Fire/Use" button/key to charge/fill the "shot." (Nova Knife/Scrambler Rifle mechanic)
- As the shot is charging/filling, you can get a lock-on the body to guarantee an actual revive. To further show that a lock has been acquired, a field of energy will connect between the operator's device and the body (Repair Tool mechanic). This will also serve the secondary purpose of showing other medics that the team mate is already being tended to.
- When the charge is complete, release the button/key and the "shot" is administered.
The issues of range, charge time and even total # of uses is completely up for debate. I just really want NI's to be less flawed |
