First check this out: Shamless plug
That article should give you a basic understanding of all the skills that affect dropsuits.
Additionally, I'd suggest focusing on skills that have the widest impact on you performance. These would include Electionics/ Engineering, dropsuit command skills, shield and armor skills, etc. I personally think that Electronics/ Engineering to at least level 3 and the shield/armor skills to level 3 are more important that leveling up you dropsuit of choice. Having a shiny dropsuit is nice but it's only as good as the modules you can fit in it. |

Be a logi! Logis are the best.
*Ahem*
I would work on shields first, then suits, then weapons. |

As Herli mentioned, work on core skills first (electronics / engineering, shield/ armor). While you are working to build up enough SP to fund those, I'd probably just stick to the starter / militia fits. They are relatively cheap and you'll be able to learn more about what you want to do without throwing away too much money on shiny things you probably shouldn't try to use yet. This will help you save up your ISK for when you ARE ready for better things. |

don't be me, I put all of my Sp into the open beta Myron. Lost so much money that way.
Instead, to find out what you want to do first by looking into militia gear. while they are limited, if you have the core skills as mentioned above. you can pull a 10/2 (no lie, got all the hate mail) find out what you want to do, rack up on sp, then buy the BASIC shiny piece of suit. test that out, find a fit that works with it, and have fun. |

Honestly I did the opposite of what everyone here is telling you. I started by putting so into weapons to get at least the second to top tier assault rifle. Then I put some into drop suits so I could at least get the first tier of the suit I wanted so I could have some low slots ( Which are essential if your going armor) And now I'm just saving so myself.
All I'm using is the gun and suit and everything else is militia right now and I'm doing awesome with it. The clone only runs me about 20k is each so all long as I limit my usage of them in a match I always come out with a profit. |

I wish I was as smart as you guys, but unfortunately I spent almost all my sp on corporation skills. Now I wish I had looked at the forums before I had done that, because maybe I wouldn't average a measly 0.31 kd ratio. |

You could have submitted for a skill respec. Yesterday was the deadline for that though so I believe you missed your chance. Hopefully at some point they will allow one respec for new players since most people don't know what they are doing at first. |

If you are gonna run a medium frame, here is a basic medium fitting for 565950 SP (You can start a new character and run this after approx 15 games in academy):
Fitting 1x Militia Minmatar Medium Suit OR 1x Militia Caldari Medium Suit 2x Enhanced Shield Extenders 1x Basic Armor Plate 1x GLU-5 or GEK 1x Militia Grenade 1x Militia Nanohive
Skills Dropsuit Upgrades 2 Dropsuit Armor Upgrades 1 Armor Plating 1 Dropsuit Core Upgrades 1 Dropsuit Electronics 1 Dropsuit Engineering 1 Dropsuit Shield Upgrades 1 Shield Extension 3 Weaponry 3 Light Weapon Operation 1 Assault Rifle Operation 3
This should give you: - Good speed (even though you have an armor plate). - Good tank (461 EHP for caldari medium, 416 with minmatar medium). - Good gank with level 3 in AR. - Some basic resupply with nanohive. - Grenades to start practicing cooking.
Nothing special about it really, I just tried to balance it for a new guy with around 500k SP. |

All the above advice is good. here is my .02 isk. Get some aurum, get a good bpo "blueprint origanal" suit going. For around 47000 aurum you can fit the caldari primordial suit with all bpo modules and spend no isk because they never run out. Then you can experiment with other things on other fits. With core skills up you can do very well with it too. |

That's if you want to spend the money ;). I have been trying to avoid that, however I wish I realized what was really going on with that bonus sp when I first started. If I did I would have dished out 5 bucks to get the active sp implant. That was an extra 2500 sp or so a match. I didn't realize after that ran out I would only be getting 1000 sp max a match. |

Think some good advice would be to join a corp, find experienced players and squad up whenever possible. Make sure you have a mic and know how to use it and learn from others experience. Helps you figure out your role and brings another layer of complexity, learning how to teamwork instead of learning to shoot the other guy in the head faster. |
