This is not a gripe, just a question. I'm looking for what I've overlooked.
We've got a few guys spawning into the map. There is a rock and a couple of crates that provide cover. Now on the other side of that big rock are 3 guys with TAC ARs and packed AV grenades.
I spawn in, and call in an LAV, it blows up before it gets close to one of the guys.
I spawn in with a sniper rifle, but it takes 3+ shots to get through one of their shields, and the TAC can reach out and "touch" me.
I spawn in with a hmg, run up to the rock and try to get him up close. He backs off and kills me with impunity.
I spawn in and consider ordering a dropship, but don'ts see the point since it's domination and I will have to get out of the dropship in front of several guns (that's assuming I'm not shot down before I make it 100 yards) Oh, TAC to the face.
I spawn in with a forge gun, but again can't get a line on them, since the forge shoots Through their body...
What options am I missing here? We tried having three of us rush him at the same time, but there were three of them, and they all outrange and out DPS us.
I did flank them once, and got one down to about half health before he got me.
Could I go around them? Yes, but what's the point? They'll just kill me somewhere else. |

3 free militia lavs, get out before you are in av throw range. Std lav for better survivability, lead with a couple of flux nades, depleting their shields makes them weary of engaging you and more defensive, not to mention the massive addvantage it gives you.
Sometimes people are just better than you and besides training there is not much you can do about that.
Oh and attacking from as many angles as possibly but not dying, if you get their attention you pull into cover so they don't wipe you out with their tacs while your friends advance. |

The best counter to a group of TARs is more TARs.
The possibilities are endless. You can bring one more TAR than they have, or bring two more TARs. Alternatively you could field three more TARs or go with the tried-and-tested approach of bringing four more TARs. There are more ways of countering this, but these are the main ones.
You see, there's a lot of depth to this game, so it's normal that it takes a while for newer guys like you to get the hang of the meta-game. Thanks CCP for this great game. |

TAR's cannot be destroyed unless you have TAR's or an orbital and we all know that without a TAR you'll never get an orbital. I'm waiting for TAR's that fire orbitals if the user pulls the trigger fast enough. |

Flank with a group. I run into this problem often and the solution is ALWAYS flanking. You gotta keep at it and commit. They will eventually slipp up or run out of ammo. |

Given the number of different fits you tried, my guess is that you went "jack of all trades" in terms of skill point allotment. The people you were up against were probably highly specialized with their gear. Specialized beat jack of all trades, master of none every times. |

You seem to have a mindset of SEE ENEMY, ATTACK ENEMY.
If there's 3 guys with TACs and AV grenades behind some cover with some flat ground between you and them then it's a suicide mission. If it was a few noobs, yeah maybe it would be doable. But if they are wearing black, have TACS, carry Packed AV grenades, know to stay in cover, and have enough HP to shrug off sniper rounds then it's pretty obvious that you were dealing with some ringers.
The right play is to accept that you're outmatched, retreat and find someone else to shoot. And hopefully you'll meet one of them again later in the round when they don't have such an overwhelming tactical advantage.
Try engaging only those reds that you think you have a high chance of killing, either by yourself or with the help of your team. If you see a guy and you know that you'll only ding him a bit before he gets into cover, etc, don't waste your ammo.

Those guys are playing tactically, so it's your job to come up with better tactics?
A possible solution, instead of rushing them headon, split your squad into 2, with 1-2 guys popping up to distract them while the rest of your squad flanks them. Flanking positions is a key and very valid tactic in this game.
That or avoid that position they have, if there are no enemies for them to shoot, then they'll have to give up that ground eventually. |

Well, there's a couple of assumptions made above that i feel should be addressed. I was playing my alt which is a dedicated heavy.
Now to address avoiding them, well it's domination, there's only 1 flag. And to make it even better, they weren't hiding behind the rock, we were. They were standing in the open while we were stuck in our spawn. So we had to go through/over them to get anywhere.
To accept we are "outmatched" is just bad game design. There is such a thing as being out played, but to be outmatched is just idiotic. You are inadvertently suggesting that we just leave the match, or sit in our MCC collecting SP to one day play with the "big boys". I can accept being out played and losing an objective, but being an indestructible demi-god is BS or bad game design.
Cooking grenades is not a bad idea, if I can get in throwing distance... which may have happened if I flanked in an LAV, jumped out and cooked behind it... hoping it didn't blow up and kill me in the blast....
So far I think the best idea is to flank, or dropship and crush them; but short of that, we might have exhausted their ammunition and clogged their guns with our dead carcasses. |

You have to accept that not every tactical situation is winnable, sometimes your best option is to retreat and force the enemy to meet you on different terms. Remember the Kobayashi Maru. |

So I'm guessing the red team rolled your team all the way back to your redline and then stood just outside of it shooting at everyone that tried to mount a counterattack?
When one side gets absolutely trounced like that three things happen to the losing team: 1. Some people hide/stop fighting to protect their KDR. 2. Some people switch to sniper rifles. 3. Some people keep fighting but they run free fits only because they don't want to keep losing money.
If your team hasn't been able to break the red team when everyone was doing their best while wearing their regular fits, how can you expect your team to come back from defeat when it's fragmented like that?

Agree with above. Don't fight uneven odds. Especially with lower tier gear against higher tier.
Also if there are 3 people behind cover, flux grenades. Clears out equipment and blows their shields. Even then and at close range with my heavy suit though I'm not fighting 3 proto users unless I don't have a choice. Maybe with a good flux, using their cover to force one person to expose at a time by rotating around the cover (though one will attack other side in a moment and from the sounds of it they have the intelligence to stay away) and a mouse keyboard setup since I can aim better with that. Then I say 50/50. Oh and don't rule out the possibility they were using a healing hive on the ground to keep themselves alive. |
