That's exactly what I think. Dust 514 will probably never be as smooth to play as the cream of the crop of games, but it will probably have much more depth to it, man. There's no point in playing a game you don't enjoy it, and Dust 514 will never be something you're gonna make a lot of money with. Don't worry about the skill points because let's be honest here, playing a game because of SP is about the dumbest thing ever. Taking a break is a win-win situation because either you find out that Dust is just taking away from your time, you could spend doing something else, or you end up coming back after the break and you will enjoy the game more. Yeah, you missed some SP, but you've also passively accumulated some which is fun to use. And don't give me that crap that you can't be competitive because you have 3 million SP less than the top dogs. Is not about the money... . Is the "Competitive" game mechanics of Dust 514. Let me be the first one to tell you that I wouldn't be playing the baseball game you just described! |

The same reason as the OP.... because the "Potential" of the game. Of course..is up to CCP to convert that "Potential" into reality. |

Himiko Kuronaga wrote:I'm a professional gamer. As in, I actually make money playing video games. Competitive gamers like myself require functional gameplay mechanics or we simply cannot thrive. That doesn't mean balanced mechanics, mind you, just functional ones that can be controlled. I don't need to explain how bad the aim mechanics currently are, or the issues this game has with frame rates. Everyone already knows. But I do feel the need to mention that these things cannot be controlled, and they directly affect my personal performance.
This type of situation is basically a no-win situation for myself. I cannot possibly achieve my maximum potential in this game if I am held back by uncontrollable variables to such an extent. The game as it is, being such an atrocious abomination in the eyes of competitive gaming, is beyond frustrating to play. Much to the point that people very easily put the game down and walk away forever if they are not competitive.
But I am. Worse yet, I know CCP's track record and I know they will fix these things. I also know they will take all the time in the world while keeping communication at a bare minimum. I also know that this particular game has the potential to become one of the most important first person shooters ever made, so it is important to get a foothold and keep it.
So I am stuck, playing this game week after week, lest I fall terribly behind on SP. To stay viable, I have to keep playing something that completely spits on everything I value from a competitive game. Since the launch of Uprising, I have yet to log off of Dust in a state where I was not given a very real physical headache from trying to overcompensate for this games broken mechanics.
So I just wanted you to know this, CCP Staff. Your game right now is so bad that for somebody out there who makes it his business to play video games, it is actually physically painful to touch. And this same person still has faith that you will fix this.
I want you to think about that every time you decide to blow off a request for information or half-ass a hotfix like you have been doing recently. Also, bug fixes do not make expansions. You don't require six months to justify fixing something. It's not appreciated. Pitiful game is pitiful.

Take a break cause playing a game - that you think sucks- right now based on it's future potential is just strange. Take a break and you'll find something more useful and enjoyable to do with your time and come back later to check it out and see if it reached the potential you talked about. Either it did and you'll be happy playing the game, or it didn't and you're happy you used your time on something else. I mean, am I missing something here or do dudes really make things this complicated for themselves? It's not more complicated than that, and you'd probably be more of a happy person too if you'd think about what's going on in your life right now, instead of trying to look for a better future. |

I know what you're saying, but I still see no reason for playing it now that you don't enjoy it at all. Why don't you just keep it in back of your mind, test it out every once in a while and start playing it for real when you actually enjoy it? |

If it hurts you dude. Don't play it.
You whined about physical pain to a game. you won't find sympathy here. also because your a PRO GAMER. I've known PRO"S from the VEGAS 2 and more from the PC FPS scene.
The game is garbage. Your not wrong in that. Your buddies won't touch this with a stick... you wonder why? It deserves the score it currently has on metacritic. and every low score it has gotten from other sites.
Eve cultists will tell you the "potential of this game", cause well they like eve. and they will try and sell eve as tho "as a mmo it's the staple of mmos." It's not. You'll have more fun watching paint dry. You ever play "wolf"? where you try and guess who the wolf is? You ever play it with friends on google chat? THAT"S EVE. The rest is just turning on game, and switching to a new skill after current one is complete.
This game is niche, as the Niche Nerd is shunned from other nerds kinda of niche. BUT If you like building things, you can find some fun here. The way to create your suit, is pretty impressive. That's what holds me here. Got to build my gundam. As a FPS? Dude. . you already know. no need to remind everyone here.
*Isn't that what you did?"
Haha. Only cause the EVE guys starting running around in denile. I'm their friend too. I'm their Real Life bud whom they tell about dust and snicker. Gotta keep you guys boots on the ground. Love the game dudes, But don't sell it off as something is not. |

Adjust your display settings in the XMB. Decreasing your resolution has a significant impact on the amount of input lag you get. Even with the garbage graphics though the game will still stutter in the menus and suffer from the same, regular framerate drops which proves that the PS3's outdated hardware isn't the problem but rather it's CCP's sloppy and terribad programming. I finally tried the 480p thing, and it does make aiming in the game a lot smoother and responsive. Feels kinda like chromosome did(and no, i'm not saying we should go back to Chromo). |

I feel that the OP's post is accurate and speaks to the core issues. These issues are real, there is no exaggeration going on.
It's really the compunding effect of basically every core fps mechanic in the game being broken or unfinished.
Input lag. Controller/KB+M mechanics. Weapon switch lag. ADS mechanics. Sticky terrain/stair bug, Weapon range-linked draw distances, frames-per-second in PC matches(yes i reset router/PS3 before each PC match). And more.
Even for a ham-handed fps putz like myself these thing are grindingly frustrating and make actually playing DUST feel unpleasant, although I love the game and New Eden.
It can only be moreso for players with a genuine skillset that the game prevents them from employing to the best of their ability.
Furthurmore, it is clear that this is the fundamental factor driving the falling metacritic scores. |
