Hello everyone, I'm a very new player. I was not sure where to open this thread, so I'm very sorry if this is the wrong section of the forums...
As I started with the game I found it extremely cruel and quite unbalanced, but I liked the gameplay very much and I didn't want to leave, so I followed what's the most important tip for many players: Team up. Unfortunately, it wasn't an enjoyable experience.
I'm not going to call out any player's or corporation's name, it's not of any help, I just want to say this: I've clearly said I'm a newbie, but the situation I've found was really frustrating: Lack of communication, good players going away in search for kills leaving me and another rookie alone to die, or just camping away if the match was hard. The only things were told to me were orders, not suggestions, and they just opened their mouth to criticize my approach. This is not the way I like to play a videogame and this shouldn't be the way to play a videogame for anyone, competitve or not. I like to win, I accept I'm a newbie and I'm open-minded, but still this is too much. I quit the corporation, enough said...
My final question is: Where can I find decent players (so they can teach me something and I can actually improve) to play with? Not a tryhard corp, just teammates. Somebody who:
-Play to have fun (most important) -Cooperate to win the match -Really have the desire to stay next to a new player to help him/her grow and respecting his/her approach with the game
I don't have a mic, but it's not of use, since while my English here is not to shabby, my spoken English is awful, trust me, you don't want me to have a mic XD
Thanks in advance, really, every hint will be greatly appreciated!

I visited the training grounds, yes. Dust University? Thank you very much. But can I simply join it without being invited? And once there, what should I do / who should I contact? |

Keri Starlight,
As Raze said you can visit the Rookie training grounds for advice. Other things you can do is talk to the recruitment officer of DUST University. They are a good bunch to play with and you can be certain you will be able to train up, gain knowledge on the game and still have fun in the process :).
Another option is applying for my corp :). We are a good bunch of EU players who always like to have fun. If you feel your up to it, goto this thread, check it out and apply

Our corporation is open for business in recruiting and seems to fit all your requirements:

If your written English is as good as your post up there, you'll be fine speaking it. We have quite a few members who aren't native speakers and it works out alright. If you get yourself a mic, that is, but it's okay either way. |

Take a look at BOJO or Dust Uni.
In the meantime ask for a respec and put your nose in the books on these forums. Focus on specializing in a role. Figure out the skill path you need to take to get there (great tool in rookie training grounds sticky'd at the top) and stick to it.
Join squads that have open slots and follow them. You can join "sand castles" channel and you can squad up with our guys and other friends of ours who hang out to do the same. Our recruitment is closed currently, but we are a group of guys who want to see the game succeed. If you hit me up in game I'd be happy to throw out some pointers. |

You should never try to go right ahead and join decent corps because that is what most people do and you are less likely to get in a match , i'd say try a smaller corp first and then when you are ready to move then head to a "decent corps"

Please feel to apply to DUST University. We have an open door policy and our forums have lots of advice for the new player.
Squading up shouldn't be too much trouble as our average concurrent is about 50 members online at most times. A mic is not required but I'm sure I won't be the first to urge you to consider getting one. This is a very social game and anything that helps you freely interact without using the soft keyboard is to be embraced.
We aren't going to make you the best player in the game. But we're friendly and can be very helpful to newbies. |

I don't have a mic, but it's not of use, since while my English here is not to shabby, my spoken English is awful, trust me, you don't want me to have a mic XD DUNI is always accepting new players. Just apply ingame and one of our directors will accept you as soon as possible. We have many threads and guides in our forums, there are usually a few experienced players who can answer your questions in corp chat at any time, and many will also squad up with you to show you some stuff if you ask nicely. Though, don't be disappointed, we also have many new players and there is not always an experienced one around to answer questions. But most people in DUNI just started playing the game too and by squadding up you can also learn from eachother.
Having a mic and using it is very important to ask and answer questions. Many people in DUNI are not native speakers of English and you will improve your spoken English greatly by just speaking to people. Noone will bite your head off if you pronounce something wrong.
EDIT: Ninja'd by our CEO... good job. |

I'd definitely look at Dust Uni or Bojo's both are amazing starter corps that will prepare you for the perils of New Eden. This unfortunately is a problem with Dust, the fact that when new players come into the game they are stuck in NPC corps without knowing about "real" Corps. Honestly, I think the NPC corps should be run by a real CEO, with a subsection helping out new players to find a corp they can settle in. Throwing new players into a NPC corp with no direction is a disservice to the game. Furthermore, there is no real indication in game that you should join a player run corp, in fact, you have to go to the forums to find information about it.
Thanks for sticking with the game, and I hope you find the right home to learn and grow. Good luck and welcome to New Eden :) |

You may want to mention what language you do speak. I have heard plenty of different languages over the mic, and had no idea what they are saying. I hope your experiences in the future are better and you find a more social corp, unfortunately some of the corps are all about the results and less about the fun.
Follow the advice that has already been given and like others I would advise you to get a mic as there are probably a few players who speak the same language. I think for the majority of the players on Dust it is more of a social game and less about the stats on the board.
A mic will definetly help with the learning :-) |

Its really tough as a new player...just wait until you get out of the Academy. Just find a good group to run with, all the Corps suggested are great choices. Do not be afraid to squad and ask questions, best advice I can give.
Shameless plug for Heidoukan and his Corp. We have people in our Alliance that play all different times and timezones so you always got people to play with. |
