I suspect you're getting at the fact that if you replace fal with tar.... things look very similar to our current meta. |

If they fix it like they fixed "weapon damage mod displays", they can just remove all the other weapons in the game. Problem solved. |

Yeah. I liked that. They fixed the weapon damage mod display by removing it.
How wonderfully repaired. Their ingenuity is insightful.
Wait, they did this with Marauders too. We'll fix these.... by removing them for now. Maybe the same will happen with the TAR... "We'll fix it.... we'll just take it away from you for now."

On a serious note, it really is pressing that it get looked at. I'm sure they know. They are focused on the skill tree and respec right now though. |

I'm seriously disappointed that it wasn't fixed by the 14th. It still isn't fixed, weeks after Uprising. |

That CPM feedback thread on TARs has been sitting around for at least 2 weeks now too. |

There was no need to ban the fal they should just ban the mods on the controller. It would solve the problem and besides using a nodded controller is cheating. |

You think about mods on a controller as turbo buttons and the like. Their mods basically moved the buttons, which is permitted pretty much anywhere. It was the equivalent of moving a face button to the rear of the controller and adding hair triggers.
"But, Random Forum-goer...", you say, "We could just make it so they can only use stock controllers!"
Even that doesn't fix that problem, and allowing access to buttons in a different configuration is an accessibility issue. It just happens to be one capable of abuse.
Have you heard of the "Avenger" controller? (you can see the site here) It's not even a controller, it's just a plastic shell you put over a controller.
It was designed (originally) so that people with disabilities could play games (period). It was discovered that some of those changes actually made performance better too (hair-triggers, access to face buttons without moving fingers there). The mods that made the FAL super are like this: access to face buttons, and hair triggers.
You don't even need a controller 'mod'. You could never track this sort of thing online. That's why you have to fix it on the game mechanic side. |

I love how you didn't read what sort of controller mod it was. If CCP hard-bans everyone with modded controllers (read: tries to detect turbo), it wouldn't impact the kind of controller mods in the article at all. |

Yeah, last I checked, I didn't have to depress the trigger half-way to get a shot off with a PS3 controller.
I mean, if you're using an Xbox 360 controller on a PS3, you kinda deserve the excuse to need a modded controller, but whatever. |

Edit: Despite this, the argument still stands: Is it the gun or the controller? I'd hardly say that the gun needs to be outright removed from the game because people can't get their knickers out of a twist. They don't bother me, I use them and I know for a fact that they're effective but I wouldn't say it's game-breaking effective. Not like they can kill tanks.
If the issue doesn't exist with the PS3 (that a very similar to a TAR gun is imbalanced with hair triggers), that means the balance issue in Dust is even worse because everyone has the equivalent of "modded" controllers.
The gun isn't being removed from the game anyway, it's being removed from competition. There is no equivalent function in Dust, so it's either removal or alteration here.
Just because you can't take out a tank with it doesn't mean it's balanced. It's compared to the rest of the anti-personnel weapons, not AV. |

It's a skill-based weapon, dude. You have to aim directly on the target in order for it to be worth a damn, so it should reward for that. Most other weapons are automatic and good in Close Quarters, if ANYTHING the Tactical should get a reduction in Hip-Fire but with the way everyone's bitching they're wanting reduced fire rate.
If it hits hard now, it's going to hit hard even without the fire rate. I don't need a modded controller to put five rounds down range with spot-on accuracy and kill you. Even then, if you reduce the damage, it goes right back to being useless - which is the whole reason it was brought up in the first place.
The ONLY fix (as far as game mechanics) for it is reduction in hip fire accuracy, beyond that, you're just breaking the weapon itself. Modded controllers will still be an issue but as you said, nothing's going to stop that, so where are we left if not completely removing/breaking it? |

They really need to stop nerfing and buffing with a large bat.
At this point they should be thinking of incremental changes (other than simple nerfing) that will achieve the same effect. Adding a bit of range here and there... maybe some scanning range on certain suits, upping damage on a few weapons. However, in small amounts... we could drift towards a better playing shooter without the massive disruptions to game play.
As I said on another thread... they also need to find a way to impose their balance issues without damaging the fun. As a sniper I can't even express how tired I am of fighting scope drift every time I use the rifle. In the tech level we are at there should be a less annoying way to deal with quick-scoping.
I'll repeat the suggestion for this too... simply show a dispersion circle around the aim point upon scope activation. This lets the user know if they fire right away there is a low probability of a hit. Then, have this dispersal shrink down to zero as the sniper rifle warms up (easy to suggest that the coils need to tighten their fields upon activation if we can buy that lasers or other weapons have charging and warm-up behaviors).
Problem solved. The gun is more fun to use and the quick-scope inaccuracy is still present.
CCP, please put more work into a finding FUN solutions to your balancing issues. We have the technology... it's not enough to simply apply the damned nerf bat in any old way. Do it in a way that does not add annoyances to game play. |
