I don't think it's a stretch to assume Destiny will have better FPS gameplay. The question is whether it will have enough player ownership of the game space. I just don't have much interest in the random battles of most FPS, and simply tying a make believe NPC faction that players join doesn't really do it for me.
Of course, as it stands, Dust 514 doesn't have any real MMO elements to it yet, or any real player ownership either, so it just comes down to whether CCP can get somewhere even close to the ballpark they daydream out loud about before the player base gives up on them, or not. |

TERMINALANCE wrote:hooc order wrote:Garus Locke wrote:How's everyone feel about this matchup? DUST has a dedicated team, I'd say the same about Bungie. Bungie has a HUGE level of expertise over DUST's team on shooters. Both have customization while Destiny seems to have the upper hand with customizable appearance vehicles and 3rd person player view in safe zones (to admire your custom armor and colors). I love that Destiny has space flight and combat, and that it's action oriented, not click click internal dice roll blah blah blah.
Through the breakdown and when you consider the stunning graphics Destiny is showing I'm leaning more towards it. More experienced team for that genre, more customization, more features (including PvE). DUST is fun and all but with games like that coming this holiday season they'll really have to bring their game up a notch or they'll be offering low quality graphics, feature lacking versions of new games designed for a beast of a console.
So here's hoping DUST can pick it up to at least match the upcoming titles since persistant world shooters seems to be the new big thing. Dust 514 exists and i can play it so it wins. Bungie is a great game maker marathon, Myth, Oni, and of course halo...and i suspect Destiny will be a great game. That said the Destiny universe does not have ships i can board and kill everyone in them...at least as far as I can tell....Dust the game you can;t do that either but at least the universe could allow for it. Also i like Dust's more hard Sci fi universe which does not have magic (Destiny look like it will) and no stupid alien races. People used to say bioware and gearbox could not make a bad/nothing special game. Then bioware made That star wars MMO that although not bad was nothing special and gearbox made/sold Aliens colonial marine. There is always the potential for failure. They could make ****** servers or make it P2W or a grindfest or release basic game modes but outside of the campaign offer nothing special. Limited amount of enemy to fight (all that animating and HQ models takes time) Could end up fighting a few enemys of the same model but dif colors. They could have crappy AI boring missions or anything else. They could have management shifts now that they have grown as a company. Who knows. Never buy a car before its built. Same should always apply to video games. Pre orders made devs lazy.
So, basically, you're warning that it could end up like Dust 514? |

Dust 514 vs Destiny
Traitwise its.
Destiny is: Instanced (as in there is going to be multiple copies of the same 'location') Borderlands Co-Op Styled Game play and thus a pesudo-MMO in the same facility that diablo III is. Episodic Classful System 1 Very Detailed Planet Less than 1 years of lore on the table. May not need sequel if done right over the next 10 years.
Dust 514 Is semi-instancing (that there will never be two battles on the same location AT the same time ever) Currently Lobby Matching Shooter with MMO elements Expanionsitic 'Classless' System 15,000 potential planets in a very detailed universe. 10+ years of lore going into it. Will never have a sequel. Ever.
As for early previews of Destiney I am not feeling the vibe. The hero artwork is the most unheroic I have ever seen in most modern shooters where get labeled as such. The environmental and enemy artwork is FAR more interesting however and lore is an interesting concept if done properly would draw attention away. |

Just you guys wait. I may make a bold statement, but DUST already has a headstart with most resources ready in place to improve the game before Destiny comes out. There's gonna be a lot more builds and expansions including more graphical updates before the move to PS4. They tried it with the carbon engine when it melted the PS3, so I'm pretty sure they're saving it for the PS4. By the time Destiny arrives, Dust will already have a large, decent playerbase with expanded universe tied to EVE Online. It's possible Destiny might be a very different sci-fi game and might have a different set of audience, but Dust will still be here to stay and even hopefully become more popular. I agree with some of the guys here, it's too early to tell what Destiny might be like. But I think it's way too overhyped this early. Look at Defiance. The game/show blew their load too soon and flopped. They boasted it would be the best just because of the tie in to a show. I had a huge hope in Defiance and tried to watch the show, but it was a disgrace. Good thing I didn't get the game. I love Dust 514 and can't wait to see what CCP has more to offer it. |

Overall Just because Bungie is making it doesnt always means its going to be good, Game developers are more than capable of making a lemon and don't understand why. I mean Bungie is very dedicated to their games as are some fans are. I mean Halo 2 was considered the worst of the sequels to halo ever for a myriad of reasons.
I mean Gear Box managed to make one of the worst games of the year (well subcontracted out) Aliens Colonial marines.
Totally disagree with your breakdown. Press releases and interviews from February all the way until now have said it's a persistant world, not small instances. It has cities, not small lobbies. Every planet in earth's solar system is explorable, and you fly to it in your own spaceship, not instantly teleported from a tiny room to a small lobby to the same set of maps every time.
And perhaps you should read up a bit more before making breakdowns like this and stating only 1 planet. You know, since the one super popular press video states ALL planets in earth's solar system are explorable...
It has a huge PvP focus as stated in interviews plus open world PvP. Calling it CO-OP only is naive at best. Yes, it does have classes but DUST has defined armor suits and only a few weapon types which are pretty much set with what works best together. You only have the illusion of a classless system, but in reality you just have fewer weapon and armor types and can switch between them vs fully defined classes. And let's face it, how viable are all of DUST's weapons currently? How about DUST's vehicles? For what they cost I think it's ridiculous how easily they're killed with anti-vehicle weapons or grenades. |

Sigh. Didn't people have this discussion about Defiance, too? Saying that Trion was a perfectly good developer, much better than CCP? And this conversation is no longer had between the two, as lots of week one players have actually left Defiance already? AND most of the development team working on Defiance has been axed?
There's no point in comparing these two at the moment, because it all comes down to how well Bungie actually make it. They'll be under pressure from Activision to get it out by a certain date, hurrying the production, *possibly* resulting in a less polished version. How bout bring this topic up again a week before Destiny releases, then we can actually debate about it, huh? |

I think it will come down to lone wolves vs team players.
I play this game because I am part of a Corp who wants to take their piece of the New Eden universe and need to do it in such a way that instant attacks are not feasible. Careful planning over months is required. What is more, we are all versing EACHOTHER. While the potential for A.I is in the pipeline for Drone battles, we actually take on REAL people and fight REAL opponents for a place in New Eden.
While Destiny will CERTAINLY have PvP elements in it, the majority of gameplay in their universe will be single or co-op vs A.I. And you are making your OWN way in the Destiny universe. You build your character and take on campaign missions that Bungie have provided for you. And planning is not necessarily a requirement within Destiny, neither wil you "OWN" districts or planets. You are going on your own adventure where your property is you and your equipment.
Both these games have incredible features and potential for AMAZING expansion. Price aside, they both have their elements that sets it apart from the other.
So......are you a lone wolf or a team player? |

Not trying to imortallize Bungie for being the greatest game devoloper ever, but they do have a advantage over CCP.
first Bungie doesnt have the same problems as CCP. They have perfected the core mechanics of an fps a long time ago. they know how to make a console fps... its thier territory.
their being funded by Activision. A megacorp funding a top contender. Bungie is probly rolling in money (wouldnt be surprised if a bungie dev drowned in thier 20 foot deep cash pool... in the office of course).
bungie been working on it for 6 years alrealdy, so they had time to get hiccups. where as CCP had to start over after finding that Ps3 cant handle CARBON and kind of had to dumb down Dust.
Last after watching a bunch of videos on youtube i got this feeling that bungie was sharpening theif swords and aiming them straight towards CCP. making new game engines and "grugnok" (not sure if i spelled that right) seem to be just a few advantages they have.
however CCP does have a head start over bungie who ive heard is supposed to realease Destiny sometime next year so Dust still has time to fix issues we had for a while now. And Dust has the link with Eve along with the universe's 15000 planets. the expansionary opportunity that Dust has surpasses destiny several times over with lava planets, plasma planets, gas planets, Eve ships, wormhole space, space stations, and more the potential alone should kill Destiny, but no one will know Dusts potential if CCP cant make some major improvements before destiny comes out.

No kidding. EVE has staying power because it fits a niche that nothing else does. Expecting a sub-par quality graphics FPS to last through comparable feature-wise (or far exceeding depending on what DUST actually adds) but much better looking PS4, 5 and maybe even 6 over the next 10 years is beyond dreaming. |

It's amusement park versus sandbox right? I've only learned a small amount about Destiny but Bungie are not know for their persistent worlds with player driven agendas and story arcs. No offense to the Dust fanboys and the developers.... But Destiny will, i repeat, will absolutely smash Dust in every category. Gameplay, framerate, fluidness, co-op, graphics. Watch.
CCP shouldn't be in the reigns of a first person shooter. This game plays and runs like dirt.
Now, if SOMEHOW this game was polished, didn't have player movements that run like crap and the pathetic framerate issues with a smooth aiming mechanic, I could change my mind.
But it won't happen.
I can't wait to be playing Destiny on my PS4. Along with every other polished AAA title. |
