I guess if you have it and don't ask for a respec then you get a prototype base frame for... something. The real question is why are the base frame suits more expensive than the role suits?

Secondly, it's for new players who want to get into a prototype faster, or for people in general who want a more generalized suit. Right now there's a terrible design flaw where many specialized suits aren't simply basic + bonus. But imagine if they get fixed like the Logi, where you actually get different fitting options to play a more specialized role? The basic suit is still good to have in that case as it can do things a logi can't. Start doing that with all specializations and it starts to make sense.

At 6x, they're also cheap enough for someone to feasibly have multiple Proto basic frames.

I distinctly remember easy suits which are completely geared for defence, logistics suits with even more enhanced supporting capabilities, scout suits with bonuses to cloaking mechanisms. Not to mention pilot and command(er) suits.

Currently you have a one-time optional respec that expires on June 30 if you don't use it.

Unless you wanted to Pay Higher ISK costs and just in the long run throw away 970,080 SP. Future racial bonuses hopefully.

Same as weaponry, where most only need lvl3 and heavy need lvl5. they should have put the %bonus to dmg back in Weaponry instead of giving it to anyone, because heavy have to specs into it, but not other. Now everyone received that bonus. Dropsuit difference in SP for basic : 970,000SP Weaponry SP difference lvl3 vs 5 : 246,000SP

It gives me the ability to run a more Assault focused setup if I want to. In fact, my Minmatar Medium Proto is set up great for a Swarm Launcher based A/V fit. It is fast, has decent stats and w/ 5 high slots I can give the swarms a little extra punch and still maintain a little shield boost. I guess for other classes there is not such a distinct advantage. Keep in mind though. The road from level 3 Basic Frame to Level 5 Role Frame is a pretty long one. Many newer players may opt for the chance to get into Proto suits quicker through the Basic Frame in order to be somewhat more competitive early on. You can always request a respec to get those point back. Seems like a lot of folks are doing it.

I still think the better option would be to require lvl 5 in all 3 areas (command, base, and racial) to wear proto racial suits. It would limit the amount of proto users a bit, but still reward those that have grinded out the SP. It also makes since that you must master dropsuit command, base dropsuit in order to wear the best of your suits....not dropsuit command, advanced base suit then you can get the best of the best. I do not understand why you have to get dropsuit command lvl whatever for a heavy but only need lvl 1 for assault?? I think this method would also work with the guns...make weaponry tied to level of guns you can aquire....you want to use proto guns....weaponry needs to be lvl 5, whatever gun you want needs to be lvl 5...not the current method of you need weaponry lvl 5 to use HMGs while to get a AR you need lvl 3 or something.

Not too mention the Time aspect of waiting for CCP to even issue the Re-Spec. so next time maybe you should be "a little intelligent"
