Got this gun on my alt to play around to see how it was, and boy can I say just from that it needs some sort of buff to be viable as a useful weapon.
It has great one hit kills if it hit's the guy and doesn't pass through center mass. The projectile is easy to dodge if seen coming any further than 15m away. The reload wouldn't be as much of an issue if it was easier to do damage to opponents
9 times out of 10 if i hit a guy with splash it drains all shield and does some dmg to armor (keep in mind the splash will hit if its directly under or a foot away from your target, splash is abysmal in it's current state)
This gun needs a large buff to it's blast radius with maybe a lesser damage impact. 700 dmg direct with 350 splash in a 4m radius with a diminishing dmg output the further from the center would be much more sufficient. That's still less powerful than a militia grenade besides direct impact. A faster moving projectile would also help it's efficiency.
Pros: High Direct Damage Predictable Shooting Arc Decent Ammo Reserve
Cons: Reload Speed Projectile Speed Splash Radius Splash Damage No Optic to Judge Distance
What I would do in short:
Standard Plasma Cannon: 700 Dmg Direct 350 Dmg Splash 4m Splash Radius +50% Projectile Speed 3 Sec Reload
Tactical Variant with Optic to judge distance, slightly higher direct dmg, slightly less splash dmg 750 Dmg Direct 280 Splash 4m Splash Radius +50% Proj Spd 3 Sec Reload
Burst Variant with faster reload, lesser direct dmg 650 Dmg Direct 350 Dmg Splash 4m Splash Radius +50% Proj Spd 2.4 Sec Reload
Thoughts / Changes?? I love this gun and would be ecstatic if it were to be a little more viable in this game.

I think the explosion radius needs to be larger, it's the gallente mass driver. One shot massive damage. But the damage should have a falloff so it doesn't one shot everyone it hits only people it hits directly. but it needs the ability to more splash damage with it's slow reload time. |

Thanks, but regardless if it had that extra boost it would be much more useful. I have never gotten killed by one yet. (not like I want to get spammed with it though, just a point) |

I can sorta make it work. I'm going to spec into them once the respec comes, just because I think it's a really fun playstyle and I feel like it really requires a lot of skill to be effective with. Plus, nothing feels more rewarding than 1-shotting a heavy right before he can fire his forge gun.
However, I definitely agree that they are in dire need of buffs. |

Anyone else experience the plasma shot going through enemy bodies? The hit detection could also be a large problem with the gun, could be whats holding it back. |

I tried it too and could only hit 1 of two things, Jack and S*** and Jack left town. As an anti LAV its not too bad but with the recent HP buff you still end up looking at the LAV from the axles and the sights are horrendous to judge distance on. its kind of an inbetween RPG and Grenade launcher but it should just be Dust's equivalent of an RPG, less arc, bigger splash radius but lower splash damage to kinda flush out campers behind crates and to shoot down corridors bf3 style |

Well it isn't an anti LAV weapon here, how CCP made it was for anti-infantry. Too many AV things get redundant, it's basically a 1 shot more powerful MD. It's capable of being used as an AV weapon, but excels at 1 hit kills and what should be splash damage haha. |

question... do we NEED another mass driver? when i look at the plasma cannon i see an AV weapon.
it's not quite there but, follow me here for a moment and i think you'll see it's close.
it's direct damage is a little bit behind current forge guns and swarm launchers, and it fires in an arc making it easily the shortest range AV weapon outside of AV grenades, and likely very difficult to use against dropships.
BUT! it has a very fast charge up per shot. faster than you can charge an assault forge gun or lock up a swarm launcher.
so there's potential there for decent DPS in spite of the poor alpha. but that potential is squandered by the 1 round magazine. when every shot has a reload that is longer than it takes to fire a single swarm or forge anyway, on top of it's own charge, it destroys your DPS.
i would suggest nerfing the splash on the plasma cannon, and giving it a 3 or 4 round magazine. this would essentially leave it as the weakest per SHOT AV weapon, but with a solid effective DPS within it's shorter range. |

I guess the unique selling point of the plasma cannon is that it can be used as support against both infantry and vehicles. I assume its designed role is to stand back behind the fight and shoot at either infantry or vehicles its operator can spot to support both the assault rifle and the forge gun guys.
It fills that role nicely, as far as I can tell from my own time with it, however I don't think this particular niche exists in the game. AV grenades do better damage against vehicles at pretty much the same range and they allow you to carry an effective main weapon. So I guess it's back to the drawing board CCP Weaponsguy. |

The gun is good enough to stay in game. everyone thinks it's AV but in reality its more like the great equalizer against heavy units forge gunners, and splash is good for severely hurting multiple targets clustered together.
If it was updated to something close to what I said in the beginning, it would be fantastic anti-infantry launcher
& above, yes i read that before trying it and it helped quite a bit, good stuff |

With the way plasma cannon works I see no reason why it shouldn't do a little more damage. WIth the way forge guns work, I see no reason why they shouldn't do a little less damage Plasma takes skill to hit |

Please do not decrease the direct hit damage or it would become useless against tanks and dropships. For now I can destroy militia tanks and get more advanced tanks to back up with the plasma canon. And also do not decrease the splash damage, instead I would like a small increase in the splash radius.

Dude, what are you talking about? The weapon was designed to be anti vehicle not anti infantry. Your fixes to this weapon make no sence. What it could use is MAYBE an extra round in the clip. Aside from that it is a good AV weapon. I have already killed several tanks with it and that was with the standard version with absolutely no skills into the weapon's skill branch. |

If you would use the PC for a week you will see that it is at a MASSIVE disadvantage in all it's aspects besides attacking infantry in choke points. Sure I've killed several tanks and LAVs, but I've also done that with normal grenades and the SR granted they were low hp. The vast majority of die hard PC users use them against infantry I'm willing to suspect, because its underpowered, even for that role.
Anyone spec all the way through PCs and cal assault? I know the two work together nicely with the added 25% reload speed. |

Its the crapiest AV weapon in the game -_-. the fact it does better against infantry means a lot. |

i havn't seen anyone use the plasma cannon since it was introduced after a few days after release the plasma cannon users have either dwindled or gone silent and switched to their usual weapons. |
