No, I just played three matches today in Ambush and a LOT of people used tanks. It was pissing us all off so we gangbanged them with all we had. The tankers are awesome and they're here to stay. |

Tanks were being used as the endgame for selfish solo players who wanted to be the 'complete package' without bothering with all of that annoying teamwork stuff (because why work with others who are clearly not as good as you! (they shouted from inside their tanks!))
Now they're where they should be. A single part of an effective force, that can't just be deployed in every situation regardless of context. A lot of people didn't take well to that, but luckily after two solid weeks of allcaps bitching they decided to give something else a try and might even be having a pretty good time instead of shooting blood out their eye every time they get gangbanged by swarms. |

You'll probably see a lot more people trying out heavy if CCP ever makes a militia grade HMG. As it is now, you have to spec into a class/weapon without ever being able to try it.
Once I get all my core skills to adv, I'm gonna save some points to unlock standard HMG and give it a try. |

so having what is in some cases is literally all you have skilled into at this point rendered useless by exactly one person on the enemy team is balanced(one heavy with a forge gun in ANY decent position=no vehicles for the enemy team anywhere, anytime, and with a nanohive, FOR THE DURATION OF THE MATCH.) |

Forge guy is exactly one person, tank driver is exactly one person. You've both shot your full skill load into your chosen field.
The tank, left to its own devices, will shred up the battlefield with impunity. The forge gunner, at best, can perform a few skilful instagibs and is done if anyone competent gets near him while he's without backup, just as you're done if your team isn't working with you to keep the field clear of guys like that. The ISK cost reflects the difference in overall kill capability, the difference between their 4/6 k/d and your 30/2.
You skilled into tank to own the match. They skilled into heavy/forge to kill you. Everyone has to fear something, because that's the definition of balance. |

it's not fear, it's "huh, my million tank and multimillion sp of skills into it are being outdone by his just barely over 2m sp invested and ~100k suit"
so to destroy me, you need 1/3 my skill points(just to get to effective its around 5-6 million for tanks, for forge guns, you just need weaponry to 5(1x) heavy weapons(2x) and forge guns(3x assumed as it is the same with all guns now) use a militia fatsuit and a proto forge with a complex damage mod(another 2x, weaponry skill) on the assault(most widely used) that's 1650 damage, for a 2 second charge, with infinite range, and it deals more against shields) and 10% the funding. that's fair, right?
That's like having all your points in sniper rifles and being stuck into a match that's on a 100x100 meter map. to know that the one and only thing you do is COMPLETELY useless for the match. with or without support, if they have a good forge gun, and position, your tank will be dead or severely crippled before it even hits the ground(provided that the RDV doesn't just slam it into a building beforehand) or they'll 3 shot you before you can get to cover while at top speed before the first impact.
I skilled into a tank because I like blowing crap up, tanks can be loaded up with missiles to facilitate the "blowing crap up" thing. "Owning a match" is not my goal, if it happens, then yay. otherwise, I'm happy to harass enemy vehicles and players, while my team takes the objectives under the watch of enough ordinance to level a small country.
but hey I guess that it's fair for my "heavily armored" vehicle to be a glorified coffin with guns.
NOTE: I don't even have a full million on my tanking character. this is from my time in militia tanks, where my deaths have ALL been forge guns. not other tanks, not installations, not even swarm launchers(have been hit by one) have not even seen a plasma launcher on the field yet. all such deaths have been within 3 shots doesn't matter that I have ~20% passive resist. they specced into a thing that will kill me, without fail within seconds. |

edit: dont be mistaken.... in regular pub matches i have too much fun on alts trying out new weps, but in the end, PC matches are where **** gets real. If you play them, you wouldnt be saying your the only one left. I miss the tank battles of old, Lurch. It was like a Mexican Standoff with rails or a prize boxing fight with blasters. Now we never get the chance BC everyone has AV nades that require zero SP. |

Is that seriously the approach you are bringing to the devs as far as balancing weapons and vehicles?
I once won something like 7 fights in a row in the Burg with a 0 poise dex character in Dark Souls before they nerfed the dark wood grain ring and everywhere you turned there were ninja flipping mask of the mother Havel giant armor wearing try hards. Not because the build I had or the weapons I was using were all that good. They weren't. Well, I had a good sword, but that character was more of an lol build than anything. No, I won because I was lucky enough to run into a string of players that weren't that great.
Changing a weapon so that it will do well if you are lucky enough to run into players that are not equipped, skilled, or experienced enough to counter it does not make a weapon or vehicle balanced or viable or interesting to use.
It seems more and more like CCP have some particular vision of how they want us to play the game. Like they have some very narrow vision of how and when a tank should be used and every time we the players do something different the tank gets changed to limit its versatility, or, I supposed make it so it can play the role CCP have chosen for tanks.
It does not seem like changes are being made to allow for players to chose how they want to play.

A tanker that will run active modules and hide after taking one shot? a tanker you can trade pot shots across the map? A tanker with a really good infantry support crew that can jump in front of your shots to save the tank?
There really isn't a point to tank v. tank battles when it is just much cheaper and more effective to spam some advanced swarms, hacked av nades and a few forge gun hits against any tank that doesn't run. Even when the tank has infantry support.

The only tanks i see lately are those that
A) I get to Solo and send me Fanmail B) Are at the other side of the map, too afraid to head into the fray unless theres at least 3 of them
By being supported they think, its Extra stacks of tanks instead of support infantry.
Or most of them either ran out of ISK or couldnt take getting killed, it ruins there 20+ KDR you know! |
