I just started playing the game 2 days ago, very fun game. I noticed though, as I started to level up my skills, I was running out of skill points. I just thought "Okay, I'll just play more and get more points." I get about 5k skill points per game if I do good, which I thought wasn't bad. Then I went to buy a new weapon. To get all the prereqs for the weapon, it'd take me about 1,500,000 skill points to get a weapon just 1 tier above mine. And at that it takes like 20k ISK to restock it once.
So my question to you guys is, do I get more skill points later on in the game or am I forced to get around 5k skill points per game with such high requirements? |

Maybe they might introduce a bonus to PC (Planetery Conquest) matches, but other than that boosters are really the only way to get SP faster. |

You stick with the 5k a match unless you buy boosters, in which case it's slightly more. 1.5 mil doesn't sound right for a weapon. A prototype (top tier) weapon works out to costing 600k SP. Dropsuit requirements are higher, and are arguably too high, but 1.5 mil will still pretty much put you in a protosuit. You get 24,000 SP per day passively, and probably 5k per ambush match, 10k per skirmish. The more you play the more SP you'll get, but there's a cap to prevent excessive grinding.
I recommend only going to ADV level with your weapon at first. This will take about 120k SP, with the prereqs of perhaps another 100k. This'll give you a solid weapon, which isn't too expensive and that should be sustainable. From there, get some equipment like nanohives, scanners, etc, and improve your dropsuit and defences.
The simple answer to your question is no.

That's pretty intimidating. I have no clue how I'm supposed to get to that requirement for just one weapon other than playing constantly 24/7 for a week. And that's only for a primary; I still have to get a secondary and a frame.

Remember you'll get plenty of passive SP, and that you don't actually need to go to the higher tier weapons. The difference between tiers is less than 10%, which ends up being a single bullet on the battlefield of difference. There's other stuff that widens this gap, but you should be able to fully deck out your suit with STD kit pretty quick, which can be a nice upgrade from militia. |

Can't grind 24/7 for a week. after you get 190,400 SP matches will stop giving you 5000 Sp and will only give max 1000 but most of the time less until the next week roles over on Wednesday.
So not only do you have to grind you have to wait to grind.

Hmm it really shouldnt take 1.5 million SP to get a weapon a teir above your own. Even going to the last tier, which is the most expensive is usually just like 400k. 1.5 million might be about right for total skill points needed to get to the last tier of any weapons, but even that seems high.
For example, the AR. For tier 4 you need AR Operations 4. For the last tier you need Operations 5 and Proficiency 1.
Operations 5 costs 310K SP and proficiency costs like 31K. So its only 340K for that final tier
So, basically it should never cost 1.5mil or anywhere near that to jump up one tier of weaponary. Worst case scenario, for 1 tier you are looking at 400K or so for the last one. Which is like a week worth of playing semi regularly. Or two weeks worth of passive, not playing at all. |

I've just ticketed for an Account Reset, I've been playing for around a year and a half. This quarter after the last Respec, I'm looking at wiping 12.000.000 SP and starting again. Take your time, keep your K/D ratio up, and most importantly, have fun.

You don't have to play 24/7 a week, just play it when you feel like it, or do what I do, I play 1-3 skirmish a day when I come back home, depends on my mood, and I always reach the Skill cap at the end of the week. While people come home and check FB, I check dust, then rack up for the night. |

Don't worry you don't need to go that high tier. In fact leveling up things past 3 is just for showing off, level 3 dropsuits level 3 shield skills. It's all you need.
Also you get 24,000 free sp a day. or about 5 matches. And there is a skill cap on how much sp you can grind every week anyways...
You get 8,760,000 free sp a year passively, about 20 million if you add in active sp, So if you don't time to grind don't worry about it, forgot that's even a thing. And if you get bored, you can come back after a break to tons of SP and new content *don't worry the game is like half finished* Fighter jets endless PvE maps, building and placing stuff. Gaint robot mecha suits. It's all coming, slowly.

Comes with time, not more SP per match, but more SP.
The idea is to [Engage cheese mode] work your character into the game, establishing yourself into a certain role/s, finding a corp to roll with.
Took me 2 months to gain 5.5million. Best way is to run Militia or starter suits to get the isk rolling in, don't worry about K/D/R, learning maps and strategies with be better in the long run. |

So that the rest of us can advance even faster as well as the new players?
I'm all for raising the cap for newer players if they could set a limit on that. For example: A person starts playing Dust, they start with X number of skill points, a video tutorial or even offline tutorial walks then through all the 4 races, and classes, as well as the weapons. Letting them try each for themselves to figure out what they like.
Then upon finishing said tutorial, they gain SP at an accelerated rate up to a max of 2 million SP, then it drops down to the same rate as the rest of us.
This allows new players to get a better idea of what they want to skill into, how they want to build a character, and what play style suits them best in this game. It gives players the knowledge about the core basics of the game and how the skills work, and thusly, less people will spend skills on things that do not apply to them. |

Also word of advice, focus on your passive skills, they'll provide a bonus no matter role you go for. It also serves to make your gear more effective, helps you survive and do your job better. |
